Anyone knows why after installing all the mods (CORRECTLY, i reinstalled twice to be sure) my game just INSTA CRASH when i try to select a parking spot to travel with the regalia.
Oh nooo! I don't currently have the game installed, but will try to see which mod might be the offending one --- If you guys are up for it, I suggest removing the "no collisions" mod (you'll have to put the original vanilla files back in their place though) and trying to to what originally caused your crashes. Either way, please report back with ANY findings that may help others (and/or me) to fix the guide (remove a mod?).
Ok, here are some steps to troubleshoot and see what mod may be the problem:
1. Disable SPECIAL K (temporarily) - Rename: "dxgi.dll" to: "dxgi.dll.bak".
NOW try to camp and see if it crashes. If it DOES still crash, undo what we just did (rename dxgi.dll.bak -back- to: dxgi.dll) and then follow step two.
This mod will allow you to get into most of the places that you wouldn't normally be able to get into on a chocobo (Dungeon, base, Lestallum, etc.) However, in those places you cannot call a chocobo with a chocobo whistle. (Possible in Nebulawood). Also, when traveling by chocobo at these places, Ignis, Gladio, and Prompto may not follow HOWEVER, they will appear when they encounter an enemy and enter into battle.
Download the Main File "Enter_with_Chocobo".
[WINDOWS] "Right-click" on the file that finished downloading, click "properties", click "unblock" (If you see it, lower-right hand corner).
There are 3 folders inside. Go into each folder and Extract the "datas" folder from each one into your Final Fantasy XV game directory --- Steam\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY XV.
Removes invisible walls and some props collisions so you can explore the World of Eos in its entirety.
DELETE THESE FILES: — "autoexternal.earc" (in FINAL FANTASY XV\datas\environment\world\curve\collisions folder) — "wm_c_navi.earc" (in FINAL FANTASY XV\datas\environment\world\ebex\share folder) — "du_c_invisible.earc" (in FINAL FANTASY XV\datas\environment\world\ebex\duscae folder)
Download the Main File "altissia_cartanica no collision".
Navigate into the "edits" folder and Extract "al_al_b_base.earc" to the datas\environment\altissia\ebex\props folder.
Replace All.
Extract "p_wt_pr_stcartanica1.earc" to the FINAL FANTASY XV\datas\environment\world_train\prefab folder.
Here is my feedback. By renaming DXGI.DLL.Bak. The game no longer closes when camping.Apparently, it was Special K that was giving this error in the game. What now? Is it possible to have the ROYAL experience without Special K?
Can you try replacing the guide's old version of Special K with the NEWEST special K (at the time of this writing) --- SpecialK.7z and try loading your save and camping again. Report back, please! :)
I updated Special K, it started to bug with reshade... it was horrible, but it doesn't crash anymore. And I believe that if you do a new installation with this file that you sent, it will be fine!
Thanks for the addition of my 16k Map Mod. Can't wait for an update to the list that covers the newer mods that have come out across the last two years since Flagrum changed the modding scene. Currently, almost all new mods are hosted on curseforge, including the revival of the Moogle Chocobo Carnival and many other larger mods.
Nexus style mods are very limited with both how large they can be, how compatible they are with other mods, and are in general much more limited in what they can do. Newer curseforge mods do require FFXV Flagrum Mod Manager to use, however, that is where almost all new mods developed over the last few few years since then have been posted, and and will likely continue to get posted to.
Nexus is still useful though for people still creating the old style of file replacement mods / earc replacement mods, which work better for people who cant run Flagrum. But if you are able to use Flagrum, its certainly a game changer for modding, both as a user and creator.
Of course! Oh, I must have forgotten to send you a comment on that mod page (I usually comment to let people know I included their mod in one of my guides) - sorry!
don't mind at all, just figured i'd mention that the FFXV Mod Scene has changed quite a bit since the old nexus times, but i know people still refer to lists like these at times and miss all the new and the larger mods that are getting released on the more active Curseforge FFXV modding site. =)
Hi, I am considering uploading a modding guide for FFXV including more details about Flagrum mods and other tips according to my recent experimentation. If I ever conclude it I'd like to mention and link your guide for this and other games as inspiration, is that ok with you?
Thanks for the work you put in this and other guides, they were always really useful resources to try and improve my gaming experience.
People have reported that using ReShade with the newer versions (later than December 2023) of Special K result in critical errors or infinite unresponsiveness. Are you ONLY using Special K or are you also using ReShade?
Using the local install of Special K linked here I ended up with screen tearing I absolutely could not get rid of.
The global Special K did not cause this issue nor did the much older local Special K from the Steam Forums: https://steamcommunity.com/app/637650/discussions/0/1697167168518535998/
Anyone else have this issue or find a work-around?
A LOCAL installation of Special K is the community-preferred method due to the ability to use ReShade alongside it with no problems. You can either install SPECIAL K locally (runs within the game's installation directory) as is written in the guide -OR- install SPECIAL K globally using it's installer (however you are on your own with this method since the guide is not designed around it).
Followed all the instructions and using the latest build of SpecialK, and all that happens when I try to launch the game is that it hangs on then initial blank screen saying ReShade and SpecialK are loaded. I get a popup at the bottom left corner saying it successfully loaded ReShade64.dll.
Nothing else happens. None of the banners nor the notification goes away and the screen just stays frozen at that point.
Got it figured out. The version linked on the SK forums gives that "Critical Assertion Failure" error. The newest nightly build from Discord just hangs. Going off of tadman1996's suggestion below, I downloaded a version from early December from Discord, and no problems.
I know this is months later for a reply. However, I'm posting this so that others who also wonder which build potentially works(like myself at the time of posting this lol). The version of SpecialK I use is from the SpecialK Discord posted [Dec 28, 2023]. If this one doesn't work for anyone else, then I suppose you'd just go down the list of downloads starting with the 28th down to the 1st until you find one that actually works for you. Cheers.
2024, dont use this, instructions is outdated and OP left a very misleading instructions about it. everything is outdated and if you tried to follow it it'll have inconsistencies.
General comment - thank you, this guide is fairly good even in 2024, obviously some mods have changed, it would be nice to see this revisited, probably a lot of people here from the latest steam sale of the game.
FAQ Q "I can't interact with Reshade's menu with my mouse, how do I fix this?" A "Try opening the Special K menu (Ctrl + Shift + Backspace) and re-enabling "Mouse Input" under the "Input Management" sub-menu. This is a recommended performance improvement for Special K that may be preventing you from adding any of the Reshade mods you're trying to use later on.

Definitely SpecialK. I can install and use ReShade by itself with no issue, but SK just hangs every time.
