I appreciate this MOD so much. I have a daughter I wanted her to see the story and without worrying about the language now I can have the game playing without the concern of complaining of why they are cursing so much. I have played the original and was surprised for cursing at all in games. I didn't think being young it would be neccessary and still don't. But I do like the way they censored it. Square Enix at least take note for an option to remove or keep the language.
I have placed a post on the MODs section to add this and so glad you have created it!

Thanks again and God bless you bro!

Thank you for your time and work on this mod, it is much appreciated! There are some bugs I found that I will post in bugs. Also, I would greatly welcome it if you did the same for Final Fantasy VII Remake and Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- Reunion.

To all the weak-minded who lack the theory of mind and moral cognition to fathom different moral ideologies from theirs, and are too ignorant to understand why others might desire the option that this mod provides:
This isn't the mod you're looking for... Mosey along and have a blessed day!

Remake should be just as simple with the same tools, so I’ll be redownloading that tomorrow as I’ve had my eye on a few things regarding it.

Was planning a CC playthrough as well so I can definitely put it on the list. And get to it quite soon if the text tools work as well as FF7R’s. Will let you know once I polish this one make time for the others.

Finally, THANK you for the reports.

Figures that good ol’ text would be the buggiest the two mods >_>

Worry not though, I’ll take care of it now that I have a better feel of what to look for.

I'd also love to see this in Remake, so I can share that with my son, too.  Thanks for your efforts!

This only matters if you are a child.

You would only post this if you had the limited mindset of a child.

underage kids don't realise this is a callback to the original game using censorship for profanity.
the base game SHOULD have done this but people get so ^$%#ing mad over the dumbest $#^7

Interesting mod choice. While normally I'm on the train of hating censorship, I don't mind at all when it comes as an optional feature just like this. In fact, I actually like this one as a callback to how censored the original version was when it came to language. Though, it is rather funny and sad how the original one had dark, violent, and sexual content that this Remake version cowers away from... but then the Remake turns around and uncensors all the bad language. Two sides of the same coin, I guess.

Anyways, yeah, neat idea. I might not use it myself, but I like it~

Can you describe the steps you did to make this? I see ff7r-text-tool but how do you get .uasset files?

NVM: I got it, looks like Fmodel

Great pratical (for the parents) and nostalgic (for the OG players) fun mod! Thanks for your focus and efforts on both the text and voice mods! Much appreciated!

To the naysayers here that don't seem to get it (presumably they don't have kids in their lives), and say that editing the profanity is pointless because it's a violent game:

In my personal experience, well-adjusted kids without certain mental illnesses or other underlying issues mostly only emulate violence in play, not genuine aggression and hostility. Furthermore, the violence in the game is highly stylized, for the most part.

However, at very young ages, limiting their exposure to profanity helps with developing more healthy communication skills, as they're more apt to freely use words they've picked up (particularly those that parents tell them NOT to say), as opposed to running around trying to actually kill people due to having witnessed simulated violence in media. It's important to help children learn proper, articulate expression from a young age, without excessive use of profanity.

Of course, as we grow up, learning to use profanity in a creative way isn't necessarily a bad thing, and may have a lot of positive effects on stress management. And to be clear, I swear pretty often, but not around children.

Personally, other than the not-infrequent uses of b!tch, @sshole, 7uck, $uck, and such, I don't think there are too many elements in the game that are inappropriate for children, and can't be put in proper perspective by communicative parents/older role models. On top of that, most sexual innuendos go straight over kids' heads.

Really, if you're saying that this mod is dumb, then just don't download it.

And, to the author, let me say that I appreciate your hard work, as I expect this probably took a fair amount of time to do.

Very well said. My young son is still learning how to read. Now the subtitles won't have profanity bombs in them.

Stylized sword violence is one thing. My boy doesn't have a buster sword to swing around -- let alone the skill to execute acrobatic takedowns. GD-this and S-that he could easily sling around if it gets normalized.

Those of us with small children thank you, mod author.

We've all been kids, if yours doesn't hear it from your tv, he'll hear it from someone else, most likely another kid. So maybe instead of worrying that he'll hear and repeat stuff, maybe explain to him (that is if you can) in a convincing way, why he shouldn't use these words.

Are you stating kids should not understand certain words? shield them from ever understanding the real world? Maybe you should raise your kids instead of playing games in front of them ignoring them

Seriously a waste of time and effort and it's just stupid. I grew up around sailors and I talk like a normal human being. It's not that big of a deal.

I’d assume this is a nod to the original game, where predominantly Barret’s profanity was written the same way.
