I'm really enjoying this, especially the added challenge so far and the cosmetic changes! One thing though - is it supposed to be impossible to draw Carbuncle? Squall's and Irvine are level 16-17 and I fail every time trying to draw.
Yes it is supposed to be a GF you draw from Seifer now. So if you try to draw it from Iguions it will fail. But you're not supposed to even have the option to do it... That's what you're having ?
Also Alexander is drawn from Black widow now. And Siren from Edea.
First time revisiting the 2013 Steam release with any mods, and I'm very excited to try a new version of my old fave. :')
Will this have an effect on achievements - I'd like to finally get the Contrived Finish achievement, but normally Squall starts at lv 7, and with the mod installed I see he starts at 1xp from lv 5 - so long as I never let him progress, would the achievement still unlock?
It will make the achievment much harder to get than in the original. So if this is your goal don't use my mod. By the way this mod is a bit outdated now, if you want a better experience I'd advise you to look for Junction VIII. It's the new mod manager made by the Tsunamod team. You'll be able to select much more things along side a gameplay mod as well. I also contribute and the catalogue is expanding fast.
If you still want to try this mod I'm flattered. Be ready for a challenge. Most important thing to keep in mind is that every enemy has a status weakness and you must exploit it to win effectively. For example : Undead and Evil monsters (including Gerogero or Diablos) must be 'turned' before they can be harmed by curative spells and items. You do that with Light magics. This kind of informations is to be found in the magazines.
Love the mod so far, it's been a great way to rediscover FF8, and the new cards are beautiful.
I'm not sure it is the right place to ask this, but i'm hitting a wall with the Ironclad in FH, it deals way too much damage to my party and I have no idea how toget past this fight, am i missing something ? (I don't have the defend command yet, 4/120 AP :/)
Helas, you're absolutely right about that particuliar fight. In order to win it you must 'survive' the first phase but even then it is still hard. So I'll just give a solution to it : Protect against Light damage and status as much as you can (Bane and Light associated to elemental and status respectively). Raise Defense and HP as much as possible. Use Items to revive fallen characters. Use Earth magic to have a chance at inflicting stop to the machine. Use Limit Break with a high Strength Squall, and use Water and Lightning magics with high Might characters. If you have Quistis with Mighty Guard limit break use it at the most critical level to benefit from the many buffs it gives.
The monsters in FH have all 8 elements to draw. But be careful, they are quiet strong as well.
The thing is, this fight is probably the hardest in the game due to it being at a scenario crossroad. You cannot really farm to get much stronger until just after this point.
I actually beat it just before reading your reply, i didn't think about light elem-def, which could have helped a lot, along with tanking with GFs (and indeed, getting haste from mighty guard sure made it easier)
Hey man I just wanna say thank you for all your hard work. FF8 doesnt get the love that FF7 9 did. I just had a few questions about the mod installation.
If I wanted to use the standalone mod with just textures you said "If you want to use other mods, install this one last, then replace." Can you rephrase that please. Sorry I think I know what you mean but I just want to be sure.
So I install lets say crystal mod, then install your mod and hit the Replace all files button?
I mainly meant that this mod changes many textures. So just to be safe and have these ones installed you can do exactly what you said. It shouldn't conflict because it's just texture. Don't worry. Crashes occur when using other parts of the mod, like gameplay or fields. You definetly don't want to use my fields with Crystals' menus for example.
Do any parts of the mod work with other languages besides English? Aside from the obvious like script changes, of course! And if they do, would we need to delete the EN data folder? I'm mostly curious if the textures and costumes can be used in other languages, but I thought I would ask just in case there they can't, or if there are some that CAN be.
just noticed a very problematic bug................. basically when battling tri-point in ultimecia's castle, its mega spark crashes the game outright thus making the fight completely unwinnable (note i have tried this both with different "classes" and the defaults too and the same result occurs
so i just started this mod and i was curious on something: is there any documentation i could read through to learn of anything new in the game that was changed in comparison to the vanilla game (for example stuff like the overload/commotion statuses)

I hope it didn't discourage you. Good luck

looking forward for the rest of the mod !

I'll look into it.
What other mods do you use ?
Weird, maybe try with the modboro update (optional download of this mod). It fixes some issues
Yes you need tonberry. And then it's a simple drag and drop.
I hope that helps.
It could be a good idea to do it someday. It's just very tedious.
