For anyone who's as obsessed as I am, here is a PNG with Dualshock 4 shoulder button (L1, R1, L2, R2) icons. I also tried making my own Share and Options icons, but due to the size of the original controller glyphs they had to be shrunk to be a little smaller than usual. At least you can still tell what they are.

Considering that this is PS1 game, maybe sticking to start/select instead?

I made this to match the controller I'm using, but feel free to edit it yourself in the paint.net application like I did. It took me a while to find DS4 button icons that looked appropriate in the menus (in my taste), so I'm not trying to do this again for more icons. Wishing you better luck than I had. :-)

I made my own version with different L1/L2/R1/R2 glyphs and an adjusted D-Pad. I'm considering making a DualSense version too.

So, the files that came with this mod did not work for me because I'm using Moguri's 8.2.1.2 version which has the updated menus.  The whole game and menus were borked pretty badly.

I had to use the PNG files that others in this thread already created (saved me some work.  I'm terrible with Paint.net).  I used the Unity Asset Bundle Extractor with the new PNGs using the instructions on the main page to open my existing asset file and create my own assets file from it; it works fine with Moguri's 8.2.1.2 now.

From the author of this mod: "Using tool open sharedassets2.assets and u want to modify "Icon Atlas" and "Screen Button Atlas" *TEXTURES* not Materials, click on them, then Plugins to the right, then Edit, at the bottom click "Load" next to Textures, and change them with these (PNG) files."

You can find the Unity Asset Bundle Extractor at this link instead:
    https://community.7daystodie.com/topic/1871-unity-assets-bundle-extractor/

    OR

I downloaded it off of GitHub here:
    https://github.com/cnt9e/unity-assets-bundle-extractor-editor

PNG image files that I used:
    Icon Atlas: https://imgur.com/a/iEd39Q2
    Screen Button Atlas: https://imgur.com/F5CZB1T

I hope this helps others who are just now coming to FF IX Remaster like me and are using a PS4 controller.

It seems this mod isn't compatible with the latest update; the one that changes the battle UI.

It's only mixed up on certain controllers. I had the same issue with my PS4 controller. Also, the D-pad didn't work.

But I tried again with my PS3 controller and it worked perfectly.

If that's not an option, you can modify the mod yourself to swap around the buttons.

An explanation for how to load and edit the mod can be found in the link below as well as the PNGs. You'd need to swap the icons in an image editor like Paint.net. MS Paint won't work because it can't properly edit transparent images.

It seems to work at first glance, but o and x are flipped for some reason. Which doesn't really fix the problem I downloaded this mod for, does it?

You must change the controls on the game options.
      :D
