I've been loving these for a while now! Though, I've been wondering if we could get some of these without the Halo 3 overlay, only the Halo 4 one. Thank you either way!
I'm pretty late to this since I don't get notifications, my apologies. You can definitely use these in your mod as long as you credit me, and preferably put a link to this mod, too. I'm glad that you like them.
It would be cool if someone could make one for the smaller narrower visors from helmets like recon or scout....You could even use spartan locke's visor overlay from halo 5 as a template...since his helmet is so similar to recon/scout!
You're free to use my PNG images to attempt to create your own versions. Unfortunately I think I've moved on from this project. I become too obsessive and waste far too much time when I get into something. I just can't spare that right now. Every visor here was drawn and laid out pixel by pixel because I'm a perfectionist... I can't do it again, haha.
Understandable. I just want to say that your Reach ODST overlay is amazing! I'm a novice with editing software like photoshop but i want to try and create an overlay for basically every helmet in reach! Hopefully some talented modders here on the nexus can use your mod as a template to create more of these! these are incredible for immersion! This is My fav halo mod on the nexus!
I appreciate you and your feedback. I'm happy to hear you're enjoying them.
So, uh, I think I may have gotten roped back into this project. I got permission from another modder to utilize his assets in combination with my own... We'll see... I can't make any promises, but you may be getting some more Reach helmets.
I've installed reshade, I've installed the mod, I've selected "Reach Default" through the HOME drop-down menu, but no overlay appears ingame. No matter what button I press, and I have tried many.
I'm sorry you're having difficulty. Give me some time and I'll test out a clean install with the newest version of ReShade. If everything was installed correctly and still didn't work, then possibly the file paths of ReShade have changed, or the layer effect is no longer installed with the new version. This is just speculation of course. I'll have to test this for myself.
For what it's worth, the actual ReShade options show up in-game like expected. It's just that pressing the button in the instructions to make the selected HUD overlay appear/disappear doesn't do anything.
When you open the ReShade menu and select one of my presets, does it show that the "layer" effect is selected? Or is it in the text suggesting that effect isn't installed?
If that effect is perfectly intact then the PNG files of the visors may not be in your ReShade "texture" folder. Either that, or everything is fine, but "layer" isn't actually checked in your ReShade menu.
Those are three things you can check when you have a moment. Hopefully one of those three are the answer. If not, I'll be home sometime late tomorrow.
Okay, so hit the "Active to the Top" button in ReShade, and make sure you check the "layer" box in the ReShade menu. That effect has to be on for the visors to appear.
After pressing "Active to Top", I still only get this and don't see a "Layer" check box under any of the tabs, though the Addons Tab says "This build of ReShade has only limited add-on functionality". Could that be relevant (I'm using ReShade 5.4.2)?
The 1440p and 4K download are the same, so I don't know if it matters, but when I downloaded the 1080p version (since my screen is 1920x1080), all the textures included are 3840x2160.
Sounds like you don't have the "Layer" effect add-on. I would try reinstalling ReShade and make sure you check every box when installing it, so you get every effect.
And yes, for every resolution the visors are 4K, but the difference is the ReShade preset scales them down to fit those resolutions. So the images are the same, but the .ini has different scaling.
I also just checked my files and it includes a "Layer.fx" just in case the downloader doesn't have it. I think you may need to uninstall ReShade and then reinstall it to the MCC. Something is wonky with your ReShade.
I reinstalled ReShade and just picked everything instead of just leaving it with whatever is selected by default (which I normally do because it's safer). It works now, so I guess ReShade's default installation doesn't include something this mod needs.
One of those extra installation options did mention "Layer.fx", but I already had that in the Shaders folder.
Strange, I guess there's another file installed somewhere that makes layer.fx work. I don't know, but I'm glad it's working now. Hopefully you like the visors.
I do, it's just a shame it wouldn't really be possible to use the visor of my favourite Reach helmet... the Commando overlay from the Fallout 4 Mjolnir mod would utterly demolish immersion without the ability to rearrange the UI.
You're more than welcome to use Photoshop and edit these to your liking. I just don't have the time to create any more of them, man. I've moved on from this project. Originally I was only going to make the single visor that could be used in Halo 1, 2, and 3.
I mean, could you imagine how long it would take for me to custom create a helmet overlay for every helmet in the MCC... I work three jobs, bro. There's just no way.
It's in this Fallout 4 Mod, in the optional "Overlay Framework - Overlay Textures" download.
Every Helmet included comes with two different HUD overlays, chosen at the in-game armour modification station:
A basic one which is the same as the standard HUD in Reach but modified to better match the helmet.
A "Hardcore/Realistic" version in the same style as this mod, with a helmet border around the screen.
What makes it immersion-breaking is that the helmet border of the second version is accurate to the shape and size of the visor, to the point of overlapping and hiding parts of the game UI. The Fallout 4 mod can get away with it since there's also a mod that allows you to rearrange/resize the UI, but there doesn't appear to be anything like that for the MCC as far as I can tell.
I'll take a look and see if it's something I can do without spending too much time on it. If it isn't too much of a time sync and I can fit it in, I will then have to reach out to the mod author for permission to use their helmets in my mod here.
I'm currently at work, so I can't see if your request is feasible at the moment, but I did reach out to the mod author to see if they're okay with my repurposing of their assets.
I'm a bit limited since I'm only using my cellphone for these comments, and don't have my computer readily available.
Hey, Would you mind doing A tutorial on using the Visors with Reshade, I been doing all sorts of stuff trying to get the reshade to work with the visors and i'm not having the best time.
For sure. I made the red and blue Mark VI helmets for multiplayer. They'll conflict with Halo 4 and its multiplayer, though. Just a heads up.
I suppose I should put some kind of anti-cheat warning, but I've never had an issue. I don't know if there could even be one. I've played over a hundred hours with anti-cheat enabled in conjunction with these visors.
I can't seem to get this to work. I put mine in the reshade-shaders folder and followed all of the steps but the actual visor will never show. I can use the ReShade GUI, the visors are installed in the MCC folder, but nothing happens when I enable the effects. EDIT: I did not know that the entire reshade-shaders folder needed to be replaced.

The textures are all currently in "mcc\binaries\win64\reshade-shaders\Textures" in the main directory for the Steam installation.

Can you send a link to that mod, so I can see what you're talking about? If it's super simple it shouldn't take long to edit together.
