Hello! I followed all the steps properly but the overlay is still really dim/washed out on my end and barely visible in bright locations. I downloaded specifically just for the red overlay but I got an orange instead and changing the order of the list didn't do anything so any other help is appreciated!
For now, I'm just sticking to purple as its the brightest option or green which goes well with the reticles.
Hey Tolstoj, I just downloaded the mod as of today. I noticed that it was last updated November 22nd, 2024 and I followed your instructions in the description word for word. Is the mod outdated or did I just do something wrong. I will say that when I'm at the step of picking which rendering API Helldivers 2 uses, I'm only giving the options of DirectX9, DirectX 10/11/12, OpenGL, Vulkan, and OpenXR. When I go to PcGamingWiki to find the specs, the website says Direct3D which doesn't appear for my list. What should I do? Also, once I tried all the steps and just chose DirectX9 as the rendering APi, and ran Helldivers 2, no pop up or overlay showed asking to click the Home button. Am I screwed?
Hi, so I'm using a performance boost for reshade on the latest version and as I was looking around in both the posts and description it said to delete StageDepth.fx, I don't see that in the shaders folder so does that mean that this mod will work with the version of reshade I'm in? Or am I going to be required to use version 6.0.1? Other than that I'm just lost as to why it requires version 6.0.1 other than the StageDepth.fx.
I'm uisng reshade version 6.3.3 with full addon (incase it gets updated by the time someone responds).
So, the preset WILL work in the newest version of ReShade, but it will appear much dimmer than intended. Reason being, the StageDepth.fx shader I used for this is exclusive to 6.0.1 and isn't compatible with newer versions of ReShade.
A half decent work-around for this would be to change the order of the shader list so that FakeHDR is set ABOVE Overlay.fx. This will make the HUD pop out just a little bit more, in case it was too difficult to see on its own.
The StageDepth.fx shader used for this preset is exclusive to ReShade 6.0.1, and unfortunately does not function properly on newer versions of ReShade.
This is really cool. It took a lot to get it to work (as always with reshade xD) but it was worth it. Thank you!
A little addition to my guide above (for everyone who actually got it to work): Should you ever want to use a different version of the overlay (different colour and/or crosshair) you actually don't have to repeat any of the above steps, saving quite some time.
What you can do instead is track down the texture folder (Helldivers 2/bin/reshade-shaders/Textures). In there you have two .png files that are mainly responsible for how the HUD overlay looks: One is always called "Stage", the other's name depends on what version you originally installed (Yellow overlay without crosshair is called "yellowblank", the blue one with crosshair "bluecross" etc, you get it). Those you want to replace.
For the replacement, just open Tolstoj's Preset (the original download file with all options) again, pick a colour and crosshair option and move to reshade-shaders/Textures within that same folder. There you have the new .png files you'll replace the old ones with.
Note: I'm not 100% sure if everything still gets properly detected when you have a different name with the new colour+crosshair option (e.g replacing "yellowblank" with "bluecross"), therefore just to be sure I changed the name of the new .png file to the name of the old file I just replaced. Not sure if that's necessary, just did it as a precaution, what matters is that it works xD DO MAKE SURE to keep track of what you replaced with what tho, so that if necessary, you can always revert it.
It may sound more than it is going into detail as much as I did, I can tell you the whole process took about 30 seconds. Cheers!
I got the overlay working by just moving the png to the overlays in reshade instead of trying to use stagedepth. I don't know if this is voids any fancy effects but it works.

Proper instructions for the preset are now provided in the primary description of the Nexus mod page!

thanks for the info, I will try to install it and see what happens, and comment again to tell the results.
