The Simple Mod Framework, along with all of my other mods and tools, is free and open source. If you want to support its development, or just donate in general, you can do so here. Even if you can't or don't want to donate money, I appreciate your support!

Do you get an error mentioning "Option::unwrap()"?
Do all of the following steps:

    • Verify your game files with Steam, Epic Games Launcher or Microsoft
    • Remove all .rpkg files from the Runtime folder with a patch number above 4 (e.g. chunk0patch5.rpkg) for files starting with chunk0-27
    • Delete files with a patch number above 1 for chunk28/29
    • Delete any files that do not start with chunk0-29 except for packagedefinition.txt
    • Then delete the cache folder (located in the SMF folder) and try applying your mods again

so since the person doesnt reply, its from github, just save the folders/mods in your mod folder, then install the new version and put them back in

      https://github.com/atampy25/simple-mod-framework/releases/tag/2.33.25
or just search "simple mod framework github"

Two things : first many thanks, after 400h on Xbox I am discovering this game again thanks to mods, and thanks to you.

Second is a question, do I need to deploy/apply again mods if I change some settings in on of them ? For example, if I change one setting to one mod, do have I to deploy again to make the change appear or deploying is only when installing mod first time ?

Is it possible to run the .exe under Linux? I was able to launch it, but after selecting the game directory, it states I don't have an internet connection, and I cannot figure out how to proceed.

You may be able to get the SMF itself working under Wine but iirc there are still some issues.

@ kristaps777 ; I got it working on Linux using Lutris paired with the 'ge-proton' option. that 'ge-proton' entry in Lutris currently uses "GE-Proton9-27" (i.e. https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/GE-Proton9-27 ) which is basically from April 1st 2025. it pretty much worked on the handful of mods I applied to the game.

I used the one Atampy26 linked to below (i.e. v2.33.25, which is currently for newest Hitman v3.220.2 from April 10th) and extracted it to a clean 'SMF' folder in the game directory and guided Lutris to run, for example, "C:\Games\Hitman\SMF\Mod Manager\Mod Manager.exe". after it opens, it's a bit cramped but you can grab corner of the program with mouse and expand it so it displays normally and then future runs of the program are good at that point.

it will work on both Steam and Epic versions. side note: I had a issue with The Brothers mod though on both Windows and Linux in that while it applies with no errors, you cannot play it with Peacock active, but 'Offline' works. when I last tested that mod it worked in the past (at 'Career > Elusive Targets > Hitman' and scroll all the way to the right) but not anymore.

p.s. if you try to use GE 8-26 from Feb 2024 (i.e. "wine-ge-8-26-x86_64") it won't work that as it throws a error. even the stock system Wine v10.0 reacts the same. but I never had any internet connection error's.

I don't know if it is an issue of SMF or the MOD itself. Therefore, I'm asking for both sides:

With the latest SMF(version 2.33.24) and the latest Hitman 3 "The brothers definitive edition" is  no more to install and
    ends up with this:

    thread '<unnamed>' panicked at src\lib.rs:34:22:
    called `Option::unwrap()` on a `None` value
note: run with `RUST_BACKTRACE=1` environment variable to display a backtrace

Any idea what to do ????

Here is the general troubleshooting guide for this issue:
Verify game files, remove all .rpkg files from the Runtime folder with a patch number above 4 (e.g. chunk0patch5.rpkg) for files starting with chunk0-27. Delete files with a patch number above 1 for chunk28/29. Also delete any files that do not start with chunk0-29 except for packagedefinition.txt. Then delete the cache folder (located in the SMF folder) and re-deploy.

      @Atampy26
      THANK YOU very much.
The problem is solved by deleting 2 files within /runtime
The files were named "Retailpatch300.rpkg" and "Runtimepatch300.rpkg"
I don't remember where they belong to. Anyway, after that everything is
deployed successfully including The Brothers mod.

Just wanted to chime in and say thank you for keeping this game alive. The entire modding community relies on your hardwork and the best part is that you have nothing to gain from this and do it all for absolutely free. Honestly, thank you dude. I hope IOI would stop releasing mod-breaking patches so that you don't have to come back to updating this mod again.

Thank you! And, I'd still be updating the framework - there is a v3 update in the works that should make SMF much faster and hopefully easier to use.

Regardless the framework isn't a mod and isn't explicitly prevented from working on pirated versions, it's just pirates don't tend to make minimal changes

I recently installed a lot of mods - the deployment took quite a long time, which I understand.

Now I've tried to add two smaller mods, and it looks like it's redeploying the whole mod list, which is again taking quite a while.

Is this intended behavior or have I done something wrong? If so, I'll make sure to only add mods in bulk as it's not really worth it to redeploy the whole mod list for one small mod.

    Thanks for your work!

Deployment time increased for some reason; on the previous version my modlist typically takes between a minute or two. On the latest version, it increased to 4 minutes, and I noticed that SMF does not save the cache folder anymore. Maybe that's why deployment time takes longer now; it deploys all mods from the beginning instead of saving them on cache for faster deployment time.

It does take a while to deploy depending on which mods you have. The cache system hasn't been changed in this update, so subsequent deploys should be faster than the first (but the cache is cleared between updates to make sure nothing is broken).

How does this mod manager work? I see that it was last updated in 2023. Previously, there were no patches that would disrupt its operation? Or does it update itself via the Internet? Explain if you understand

On steam, you can right click, then properties, then installed files on the left, then verify integrity of game files, then it will reset all the files to vanilla.

If playing through Epic, I can't help, sorry.

I don't understand which files to install on the left? The beta version is empty, I checked the local files, everything is in order. There's only cloud storage left, and the options for when to update the game are all there. Where to click?

I often use mods in games, but this is the first time with a Hitman like this.

SMF itself needs to be updated, as every time there's an official update, it breaks SMF, and by extension, every mod SMF handles

So that's what I'm asking, how often does the update happen? The file has not been updated at all since 2023. And you started talking to me about Steam, which caused a misunderstanding.

If you're asking for a timetable for when SMF (Simple Mod Framework) updates, there never is one, and never will be. Updates to SMF happen when Atampy26 notices there's been a game update, makes the patch, then uploads the patch. the SMF program checks if there's an update available every time it's started.

I was surprised that he was updating it through some kind of database, but here it contains an outdated version. I won't say that it's good when the whole community is based on the work of one person, but it's better than nothing at all. Thank you for clarifying the situation.

If you really don't want to wait, you can downpatch Hitman 3 to a 21st march 2024 version (3.180.0), and then download version 2.33.9 (24th march 2024 release) of Simple Mod Framework from Github and it will work. Obviously not going to post instructions on how to downpatch Hitman, just google 'Hitman downpatching' and there's a tutorial.

      Otherwise, you're out of luck.

Update: This works as I didn't want to wait and there is no major difference between version 3.180.0 and the latest version besides some elusive targets and minor bug fixes I believe. I don't care about anything released in the past year as I am simply playing through the campaign again and only doing so because I wanted to use mods. This also works with my version of peacock (v7.6.1) which I think is fairly new, so will probably work with latest. I had to downpatch 2 mods which were incompatible with 3.180.0 Hitman, but otherwise fine. Your saves won't work obviously. Now, back to Ambrose Island with my mods lol.

warning about downpatching: some mods may not be compatible with an older version of SMF and you will have to remove them or download older versions if they exist.

It's a pity that developers don't pay attention to modderss, and it's so difficult to implement the change process. But updates for this game are necessary, elusive goals are cool game mechanics. Maybe one day I'll get bored and I'll disconnect my version of the game from the Internet, but not yet. Although I'm just putting the mod on a more convenient sight, and orienting the character in the center of the screen, rather than from the side as on consoles.

A lot of incorrect information here I figure I should clean up.

SMF was not last updated in 2023. The Nexus Mods file was last updated in 2023 because it's just an installer file. You can see SMF's update history, which is significantly more frequent, on the GitHub.

The phrasing that "I have to notice" there's been an update is a little strange, given that every single SMF patch for a new game version in the last two years has happened within four days of the game update, and almost all have been within 24 hours. This includes this update, which was released less than 20 hours after the game patch. To characterise that as unreliable, or hinging on me, seems misleading to me, especially given the majority of the time is just waiting for the other tools that SMF depends on to update.

These updates are not in fact even managed by me usually. SMF v2 is in maintenance while I work on the next major version, and all recent SMF fixes for new game versions have been put forward by Anthony Fuller, something you can verify yourself, again, by looking at the GitHub (or even just looking at the changelog inside the SMF app).

The Simple Mod Framework is open source. Anyone can look at and make changes to the code. If I, or Anthony Fuller, or any other contributors to SMF disappeared one day, it would be just as trivial to make these updates as it is now. Indeed, if anyone is (reasonably) frustrated with not being able to play their mods after a game update, contributing the clean packagedefinition files and new game hashes or making the necessary fixes to ResourceLib is one way of speeding it up.

We all appreciate what you're doing, and your work makes it possible to modify our wonderful game. Good job!

But I've been using mods recently, and I don't know how everything works here, so I started asking questions. As soon as the program wrote about the need for an update, I went to the page on the Nexus and tried to figure it out. If you had written in the description that only the basic version of the mod is posted here, which is updated online (the current wording does not reflect all the details), it would be easier for everyone to understand the essence. And it would not hurt to edit the pinned message above, where it would be possible to describe this situation in more detail. Well, I would like the program not to depend on the version of the game, but as I understand it, this is impossible. But thanks for your work anyway.

The mod manager includes an update feature that will update to the latest version when you launch it.  He doesn't need to update what is here on nexus manually every time because he was smart enough to include that functionality.
