down load and unzip the main file and got the seconded file but when I click on the app all that happens is the file open and then close straight away. please help.
I am also getting the "No such file or directory" error despite the correctly-named file in the right place. I have checked and it is indeed an ORIG file and in the HLSaveTool folder. Not really sure what to do now.
NVM fixed the problem myself, putting the solution here in case anyone else accidentally glances over the same thing I did. For some reason Windows didn't fully extract the HL Save Tool folder - I had to Extract All a second time for it to work. So, if you're experiencing this issue and you'are quite sure you have the right-named file in the right place, make sure it's not in a compressed folder!
my pc wouldn't let me download the linked file in installation step2 of your intro, it shows: oo2core_9_win64.dll was blocked because this type of file can harm your device. how do I lift this block? Pls help
Depends on what blocked it, and what options are provided to over-rule the block. When the warning appears, read the information provided very carefully. There should be an option to "download anyway" or something like that. If not, you'll need to google for the answer. I don't know what protections you have enabled or installed on your system so I can't really assist further than that.
need help I've been trying for hours now I followed all the steps tried hlsge and hlse, I clicked apply on hlsge, tried it 3 different times on 3 different characters, ran into no error codes, renamed properly and everything the instruction told me. I found my save file, renamed it .orig copy and paste it to hlsavetool, opened save tool as instructed with left click first then shift and right click opened in PowerShell my only visible option, decomp the file, opened hlsge upload decomp, no name/talent point show up, edited spells and what not clicked apply, downloaded hlsge.sav renamed to my save game num then renamed .edited, copy and pasted .edited to hlsavetool folder, as instructed i turned edited to .sav then copy and paste .sav to my save folder open hl and nothing happened need help pls
If there was no name (when you opened the decompressed save file in HLSGE) then something went wrong. On the FILES tab under "Optional Files" there's an special version of HLSGE. Install that and try opening your decompressed save file with it. Does your character's name appear now?
I named it HL-00-00.orig, but for some reason it didn't change the extension (as you can see in the image). I had to activate the file extension view and then rename it again, this time it worked. The tools works perfectly, thank you for very much!
[Error] fopen("HL-00-00.orig"); failed with error(2): No such file or directory. PS C:\Users\reysh\OneDrive\Desktop\hogwarts save editor\HLSaveTool> This is what i'm getting. lmk if you need more info
This error means that hlsaves.exe is unable to find HL-00-00.orig in the HLSaveTool folder. Why is that? Do you have a file called HL-00-00.orig in your HLSaveTool folder?
I have opened the HLSaveTool folder using Powersell by left clicking then shift right clicking, entered the code as stated on the description page but get this error message:
PS C:\WINDOWS\System32> .\hlsaves.exe -d HL-00-11.orig HL-00-11.decomp .\hlsaves.exe : The term '.\hlsaves.exe' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program. Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again. At line:1 char:1 + .\hlsaves.exe -d HL-00-11.orig HL-00-11.decomp + ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ + CategoryInfo : ObjectNotFound: (.\hlsaves.exe:String) [], CommandNotFoundException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : CommandNotFoundException
Any suggestions on a solution/where I'm going wrong?
When you LeftClick on a folder then SHIFT-RightClick that folder and select "Open PowerShell window here" it should open a PowerShell with that folder as the active folder. But in your Error message the prompt is "PS C:\WINDOWS\System32>" which means that your PowerShell opened with C:\WINDOWS\System32 as the active folder. That's why it can't find hlsaves.exe. I'm not sure what went wrong but you need PowerShell (or CMD) to open with HLSaveTool as the active folder.
Hello, thank you for replying. I figured out if I just right click, show more options and then open CMD it opens the correct location. hopefully this can help someone else if they have the same problem

Just felt like tossing an update here: Been trying to get this tool to work on my Steam Deck in Desktop mode without resorting to a WinXP/7 Virtual Machine. Conclusion: No dang luck what so ever.
The deceptive look of the program, running via powershell/Command Prompt, made me think i could use DropBox, but it's NOT a dos program, so that was a giant utter waste of time, but still fun to go through all the work.
So two options are now left: 1} Hope for the impossible: That the tool's creator makes a Linux compatible version. (Please?) 2} Find a virtual Machine program and pump unto it Win7. (Honestly, i'd rather not go this route... but appears to be the only option in the end.)
So far, had fun exploring my options and seeing what was possible. At least i learned more about Linux/SteamOS along the way. So it's not all a waste. Soo... Thanks?
Now i'm off to go down the rabbit hole of finding a virtual machine for SteamOS.

Couldn't get this to work originally, but apparently after trying about 5-6 times, it finally worked. I must have done something wrong along the way. Removed original post content. Just follow the steps and make sure you're doing it right.

I'll decompress it and see if I have the same problems.
PS E:\HLSaveTool>
Even though the same file name is inside the folder.
I'm 100% sure it is there.
Your file was called HL-00-00.orig.sav instead of HL-00-00.orig.
So when you said you were 100% sure that HL-00-00.orig was there, you were 100% wrong. 😂
