Hey Everybody! I finally got the In-Depth tutorial video uploaded last night and i posted it and sent it to the creator. it is the video tab on this mod. I hope it helps.
PLEASE DO NOT PM ME ABOUT THIS UNLESS I ASK. IT IS BEST TO KEEP QUESTIONS TO THE COMMENTS THREAD SO OTHERS CAN REVIEW THEM IN CASE THEY HAVE THE SAME ISSUE.
I HAVE GONE AHEAD AND UPLOADED A QUICK VIDEO GUIDE TO BE USED WITH THE GUIDE DOCUMENT.
HOPEFULLY IT'S CLEARER NOW.
A LONGER MORE IN DEPTH VIDEO WILL BE BEING MADE AVAILABLE BY DYSERINA.
WITH THIS METHOD AS LONG AS COMPLETED CORRECTLY STEAM WILL THINK YOU HAVE THE LATEST VERSION EVEN IF YOU DON'T SO SHOULDN'T PROMPT YOU TO UPDATE YOUR GAME AGAIN (EVEN IF YOU ARE PLAYING ONLINE) UNTIL THERE'S A NEW PATCH.
WHEN A NEW PATCH IS RELEASED YOU WILL NEED TO FOLLOW THIS PROCESS AGAIN IF A WORK-AROUND FOR NEXUS MODS HASN'T BEEN FOUND YET.
TO AVOID ISSUES BACK-UP YOUR WHOLE INSTALL DIRECTORY ONCE YOU'VE COMPLETED THIS PROCESS AND HAVE VERIFIED IT'S WORKING FOR YOU.
1) Having music, but no voices. - This is caused by not having the second depot at all, or having chosen the wrong region for your game. - Some players in alternative regions may still have the english version of the game. - The files do not overwrite each other, and in my own testing, I haven't noticed any errors being caused by having more than one set of language files in your game. Though I did notice the subtitles appeared to be extra dark.
2) Unpack errors such as: Depot download failed : error unpacking chunk file - This is typically caused by not having enough memory available.
3) Failed to open errors such as: failed to open descriptor file phoenix/phoenix.uproject - This is typically caused by not letting both depots download fully.
WHEN A DOWNLOAD IS FINISHED IN STEAM CONSOLE IT WILL LOOK LIKE THIS:
IF YOU ARE GETTING AN ERROR MESSAGE WHEN DOWNLOADING THROUGH THE STEAM CONSOLE (BESIDES AN UNPACK ERROR AS THAT CAN BE RESOLVED THROUGH THE STEAM CONSOLE) TRY DOWNLOADING WITH DEPOT DOWNLOADER INSTEAD.
4) Saves loading with a black screen and then going back to the main screen. A) This can be caused by a missing mod dependency. - Some mods have dependencies that also need to be installed which don't go in the mods folder, so can't be backed up in a traditional way. - You may have had some mods installed so long that you don't remember they are needed. - Check the mod pages for your installed mods to verify. B) This can also be caused by trying to load saves which were already loaded into the patched version.
Where the guide says to delete all the files this means you should completely delete everything in the main install directory. Most files will have been updated, so this is safest.
Delete everything here (if you use the typical steam locations): C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Hogwarts Legacy
Please note that on July 12th they released 2 patches for this game, but only showed it as one. So consider this patches A and B. They moved some things into 6 entirely new files that didn't exist before and added them to the game in patch B. Then on July 25th they released a patch that only patched the files from patch A.
This is why you should delete everything.
There is no way to be sure you aren't leaving behind new files created by this patch.
Hi, I followed everything to the letter, but when I start the game (without mods), I can't see the dialogues, hear them and the faces have no expression :(
Are either of you using non-english versions of the game? I do believe they may have different depots.
The second Depot for English is 990082. If you are using another language then you'd want to download the correlating file for your region as the second Depot.
To use them: Click on the relevant Depot Number for your region. On the Left Hand side choose manifests. Select the copy code next to the manifest for 12 July 2024 – 18:55:42 UTC Paste that code into the Steam Console.
First of all, thank you for saving my playthrough from this mess of an update. I was heavily relying not only on cosmetics but also on quality of life mods that made the gameplay better.
However, i am facing one issue: i don't see the subtitles anymore. The only time i can see some of them is the last NPC's sentence when i have to choose a dialogue option during cutscenes. Otherwise i don't see them: not when NPCs talk, not when MC talks.
Yes, i toggled the subtitles option on and off but nothing happens. Is anyone else facing this issue?
Btw, my Steam region is Italy but everything is in English and i've always played the game in English. I'm using, of course, the English depot. I tried the italian one aswell but then i was facing the issue that my character couldn't even talk so the English is the correct one here.
I downloaded the depots for both files and language and cut them and pasted them in Hogwarts Legacy folder. But when I start the game I get a black screen and after a minute it crashes.
I didnt, since I never used the steam console before this I thought it should be empty. Maybe there was something in it that I didnt see. But I did check the folders after the download was finished, and the only files that existed were the ones that I just downloaded related to Hogwarts Legacy. But Maybe it is related to the way I carried the files. Instead of copying and pasting I cut the files and then pasted it. Or maybe there was an error during the downloading.
I meant did you delete everything from the Hogwarts Legacy install folder before copying over? I would not advise doing cut and paste, but copy paste, so you don't have to download the files again if a mistake happens.
Hey, thank you so much for this! So i followed your instructions and i just launched the game, like im supposed to but my build version is not the one it should be.(mine says 1333294) Is there a common fix for this or did i do something wrong? I just wanna play with fancy faces ;_;
I'm not sure. I did try checking for that build ID but didn't find anything. The two times I did this successfully the build ID was the one I specified.
i dont know if that matters, but i did update the game to see if it would crash. So i had the updated version installed. Then i did all the downloads. Maybe that lead to me downloading the wrong files?
It is possible you may have selected the wrong first depot. The second depot is just language files. However, before the depot I specified the language files were not separated out as far as I can tell, so not sure if that could have a negative effect.
Guys, I don't know why I failed 3 times, yet 4th time it worked, perhaps it is due to space limit problem(I route the download path to another disk, yet it might influence C disk still i guess), fyi
Thank you sooooo much for this, I can't play this game without those face changing mod for MC, sorry to be a pain in the ass but the subtitles went missing when I launch the game, well is not like i don't understand what they on about but I will be happier to have subtitles 😭
You are only the second person to repot this issue to me, so I am unsure of what causes it. In fact I even have a sticky post about it. Please send me a PM on this and I can ask you some questions.
After following this guide and making a backup of the working rolled back game I stupidely botched my install with mods. I decided to revert back to the backup i made so I didn't need to reinstall the whole game again, but after moving the files I got the error "failed to open descriptor file pheonix.uproject" when trying to open the game. Do you have any idea why this is? thanks a lot for the guide :)
I thought I had it all done, but when I try to load the game, it automatically sends me to the title screen... any thoughts on what may be happenning??
If you loaded your saves in the new game, they won't work in this version. By mod dependencies I mean that some mods have files that need to be used in order for them to work, and those files are not stored in the mods folder, so you aren't able to back them up. I would advise going back to the mod pages and checking their descriptions.
I think once the game version for a save is updated, it won't be recognizable. In the past, they changed the save file structure, so old save editing tools could no longer be used. It's possible they've done something similar with this most recent patch. I am also not sure what causes this. I loaded an autosave to test the patched game. I didn't use a manual save. I then rolled back and loaded that same save, and was able to load it, so it does seem this isn't a 100% every time thing. Though I was testing only, so I force closed before any new autosaves were made. You can try checking your cloud saves.
I'm going to ask a silly question but when you do this roll back to the previous version does it still put your bought DLC in as well (the dark arts pack and onyx hippogriff)
Hi! First of all thank you guys so much for helping everyone with this information!
I was able to rollback following instructions but the problem I have is when I click on playing one of my characters and it goes into (load game) the loading screen (with scenery and the Hogwarts houses in the bottom corner) it gets permanently stuck. Even going out and loading everything again doesn’t work.
I figured it out lol. It's because when trying to load my previous save files I also played them on the new moded update. So, the game can't recognise the save files. I just made a new save and it's totally fine! Thank you for the help btw.
I was horrified how ugly my female character looked once the mods stopped working. I haven't tried this workaround yet, but hopefully it works. After being spoiled by the cosmetic and quality of life mods the vanilla game is pretty much unplayable. XD
Hi, just got the game on sale and am seeing this mod/post made me wonder if modders aren't updating/taking advantage/whatever of the newest game update? the mod tools they added I mean.
The mod tools they created are almost 300gb to install, which is unreasonable. Second, mods do work on the new platform, not all. So for some people it's better to rollback so they can keep using all their mods, for some people it's not really necessary. A lot of mods for this game stopped being supported at some point as people moved away from the game, so those mods will never be updated to the new platform.
