FWIW, I found that it is not necessary to delete all three texture.bin files in order to remove the terrible shadows on Aloy's face You only need to remove Patch_AloyFaceTexture_A.bin. I tried each texture file individually, and then in combination, and the only times I got the shadows were when that texture file was installed. I did the testing during the cutscene where Aloy and Teersa emerge from the mountain to have Aloy made a Seeker. I found that the shadows were particularly bad during this scene, now they are gone. I am using Patch_AloyFaceTexture_B.bin and Patch_AloyFaceTexture_HeadSet.bin, and am not getting the shadows. Also, her freckles are gone.
To everyone asking about Horizon Forbidden West, I won't be modding it. Already got the game on ps4 and haven't played it yet, so I'll wait for sales on PC. I'm sure by then someone else will have done face reshape, there are already people hard at work figuring out the new file formats. Also I don't believe this mod works as-is on the second game, from what I heard a lot has changed about the archives. Happy modding!
about that supposed face mod that got taken down: I don't know anything about it, I haven't seen it, but it is extremely unlikely that it was real. To this day, there is no mesh tool that I know of for HFW. So a mod modifying Aloy's face a few days after the game release was more likely just a fake mod to deceive people, which would explain why it was taken down so quickly (if it even existed idk).
@KarlThorsten89 I'm all for having mods that allow people to change characters appearance to their liking. That's one of the things I love about mods. The developers can't make a game in a way that's perfect for everyone but the community who loves the game can make content for it. But why people gotta be weird about it? If people don't make mods that conform to your subjective idea of what's attractive, it's socialist? It's been a while since I've been in high school, but I'm pretty sure socialism has to do with the economy and distribution of wealth, not peoples appearance and certainly not mods that change fictional characters appearance... wish people would keep this kind of toxic crap out of our hobbies. Can't even have fun anymore without seeing this kind of thing.
