If anyone gets black texture bug then open other ini next to one you have to edit amd find is_poolsize. Change that to higher value but you will need a gpu with lots of vram. I have 5090 with 32gb vram and changed the max poolsize from around 4000 to 8000. Lod is now at 3 with no black textures.
This comment is as of Feb 2nd, 2025. So after the next update, this may not be an issue any more.
I played thru the whole game with r_lodscale 3. I suggest keeping that value for most the game - it helps a lot. However, once you get to Siam, i would suggest deleting that value and just using the vanilla settings. While Lod Scale 3 really helps in most locations, once you reach Siam it casues really bad LOD pop in, textures will disappear, etc. The end of the game introduces more large scale NPCs and foliage, which seems to not react well to this setting.
So, set r_lodscale 3 at start of game. Then delete once you reach to Siam.
I think this is a vram issue for textures. I'm using 5090 and tried setting lod to 3 and got black textures. I then went into the othet ini and changed is_poolsize from max which around 4000 and doubled it. I have 32gb of vram on 5090 though so you will need gpu. Pop in is fixed in this area now. Really wish I could disable the horrible screen space reflections on water too.
Look at for example (not so) distant trees and observe how the leaves and branches "pop" into view and get more detailed as you get closer. Once you notice this it can be pretty annoying. Same for shadows.
r_lodscale 5 contain visual bugs and not recommended. Also it create massive perfomance hit on openworld area. Better use r_lodscale 3 or r_lodscale 2 instead
This works really great for the early parts of the game but when in Sukhothai it will have a lot of problems and also the performance hit in that area is crazy. I always thought this game should be played with path tracing maxed out as it runs so nicely until I got into that area and then even with DLSS Performance + FG on a 4k display I sometimes drop as low as 65fps with my 4090 + 9800x3D. Turning off Path Tracing you immediately jump up to 120fps on DLSS Quality which looks and feels much smoother.

Any solution?

So probably stick with 2.They freak out with 2 as well. I no longer recommend making this change.Any solution?
thank you for this mod as well!
Download Lyall's GreatCircleFix (from github... Google it. Posting links here is a pain in the arse)
It an ASI plugin that will unlock all console commands.
When ingame, press "tilde" key to bring up the console (it depends on the region of your keyboard... it's the key to the left of number 1)
"listcvars - help" (always without quotes) lists all (long) console commands.
"g_showcrosshair 0" (again, NO quotes) removes the intrusive white dot.
"g_showhud 0" removes the entire hud elements
Type the same command and switch "0" to "1" to bring them back.
Hope it helps ; )
