Of course, set r_mode -1 (required for custom resolution and aspect ratio) then customize height and width values in jkconfig.cfg. Also check Readme file for it.
Mod looks great. Like giving an old pair of shoes a good polish :) Lot's of people probably asked this, but are you going to do an FX mod for Jedi Academy?
I wonder if kick starter would be a good place for future mod projects.
Remember that for WIDESCREEN resolutions you also need to set manually r_mode “-1”,r_customheight “1080” and r_customwidth “1920” or superior values (quotes works only in the autoexec, in the console you don’t need them!!) FX is NOW for single and multiplayer modes. ( HIGHLY RECOMMENDED USE jk2mv mod FOR MP and Expanded Menu)
I know it says manually set but I cant find this in autoexec anywhere? am I "manually" putting this mod in at the bottom?
Exactly, this is not a retexture mod, but an internal shader overhaul for the game. Only E11 blaster has new texture, all the rest had been wrapped by specular mapping and better effects.
Mostly just putting this here for very niche people I suppose. I crashed on launching the game with a JKMV prompt and a crashlog being created. Later I discovered that it was because of ReShade/GShade being installed and the "seta r_depthbits "32"" entry in the "autoexec.cfg" file. Not making GShade/ReShade hook or removing that line fixes it. My guess it has something to do with the depth buffer?
If you use ReShade/GShade you should remove just that depthbits line and while you're at it, remove "helpusobi 1" as well, considering it doesn't do anything in MP.
As for my configuration, I have the latest developer PORTABLE build of JK2MV as of right now https://github.com/mvdevs/jk2mv/actions/runs/4600603854 with GShade, the AI Upscale mod and this FX mod. Running in 2560x1440 with quite a lot of maps and custom skins installed. If any of that matters.
Also something I noticed is that most likely the portable build makes Singleplayer not launch. But I haven't tested that very thoroughly yet. It just refuses. I believe that the JKMV installer doesn't leave any files sitting alongside the jk2sp.exe? So I guess it wouldn't crash then. Or at least, that's my theory ¯\_(ツ)_/¯...
I don't recommend Reshade since it makes troubles on most of old GL games. The autoexec.cfg is tested on JKMV and single player without any issue and without any graphic filter tool. Btw, using JKMV everyone could customize settings of autoexec.cfg. Then, JKMV it's only for MP.
ReShade works fine. I just like to mess around, it's not the fault of your mod or the autoexec file. It's just an incompatibility of some weird kind. Might even just be related to my hardware. Thank for your reply :)
No problem, about the issue you reported, check your Reshade settings, FX Mod doesn't make dark any surface, all materials has been revisited, then Reshade could misinterpret some floor/wall.
I've tested it with a fresh installation of the game, JKMV installed and your mod. Nothing else. It's not ReShade.

EDIT1: Tried the latest version of JKMV from the github, installed this time. Still the same. EDIT2: Tried the stable release from the website, also installed. Still same issue. I'm out of ideas EDIT3: Without JKMV installed, it doesn't happen but I think the mod doesn't work in multiplayer without JKMV installed? EDIT4: This doesn't mean that it's your mod btw. I don't know what's going on. It might be the mod but it could also be specific GPU's with newer drivers are the issue for all I know... EDIT5: Discovered something at least. It doesn't happen in singleplayer. Started up singleplayer and used the "map ffa_bespin" command and checked there with your mod installed. It's fine there. This is confusing...
Ps: I had some issues with the main menu lagging in the middle because of the autoexec.cfg file. I know you mentioned somewhere that you need to remove a line from the autexec in some cases but I couldn't remember which one. Even if I use the autoexec, it still doesn't work properly though. I ended up removing the autoexec.cfg file and removing the JK2 config files to fix the lag and just get ingame
Still no bugs here, this is about default settings of lighting of the levels in sp and mp. First remember to run the game as administrator. If you don't use autoexec ( necessary for proper gun position in widescreen for sp and jkmv for mp) just set those in jk2config.cfg to see clear and smooth colors and textures:
Seems you were right and it's the "Overbrightbits" entry that is causing this issue paired with your mod. The lag is caused by "seta r_depthbits "32"" in the autoexec file and it sticks if you delete the autoexec afterwards. So deleting the config files and deleting that entry would've fixed the lag at least.
I guess I will keep using "seta r_overBrightBits "1" and "seta r_intensity "1" because your values make the game look extremely bland. I already discovered that I can remove some entries in the "FX2.shader" file from your mod to make them not so dark again. As for the blandness:
Vanilla values:
Your values (r_overBrightBits 0 and r_intensity 1.25):
Raising the "brightness" or actually gamma ingame doesn't make it any less bland either
:). I will let you know the portions I edited or deleted in the "FX2.shader" file for the OverBrightBits "1" to work if you're interested. I can understand if you're not going to use it and you don't care about it. I will likely just keep a patch to myself so I don't have the dark textures xD...
No thanks, it's not the way that the game has been made, disabled r_overbrightbits it's correct. First or later you'll discover some parts with excessive saturated colors.
I feel having it turned on was the intention. With it turned off, the skybox is now way too bright compared to the level/ground. Contrast of the overall picture looks off and everything seems to just become very stale. I do agree that there are some things that are too bright with r_overBrightBits turned on but it doesn't happen often. On the default configs r_overBrightBits is turned on, not off.
But anyway, I guess our opinions just differ. Thanks a lot for your replies and the r_depthbits autoexec.cfg fix.
