Just come here to see if other ppl have also this issue, it's 100% this mod as I uninstalled all others and was getting black screen, verified game files which redownloaded fresh unchanged pack.cfg file and no more black screen.
Thanks so much for this, the default rain really looks so awful at times. Unfortunately since installing this, I was getting strange brightness flickering at night time even when it wasn't raining. Validated the games files to remove the mod and the flickering went away.
I don't have this mod yet, but that odd flickering your talking about.. Did it look more like a yellowish bright flicker - kind of localized as in not the whole screen? Example - At night walking in the woods, maybe in the backdrop you see a flicker in the top right that happened behind some trees and maybe took up a quarter of the screen maybe less and seemed kinda circular. Like ball lightning or something was going off in the distance. If so, I have this issue too! I do have a few mods installed so I'm not sure what's causing it but it's very very rare when it happens. My thinking is it's related to Enhanced Global Illumination and lighting mod but I can't be sure. Definitely gonna try this mod though!
I am just curious... Is it possible to mod and implement volumetric rain particle system?
All of these rain "fixes" are more of band aids (and not to sound like an a**hole just being factual) that attempt to lessen the issue that the rain system has.
I was hoping by now someone would mod and implement volumetric rain particle system by now especially after they launched the mod tools (and i still don't see actual complex mods I wonder what's up with that?). This texture bell shape around the player stupidity of fake attempt to simulate rain is just... Ridiculous. Game of such quality to implement a technique that was used even pre 2000. Heck even WoW had particle rain system in 2005. Like wtf even is this rain system. They have so much custom code in that cryengine and they couldn't implement volumetric based rain particle system? Bollox. And i'm just mad because this game otherwise is gorgeous and as soon as it starts to rain it just turns to dog sh*te.
Basically I set out the make a more realistic appearance and address the issue of the rain being over bright in dark areas/ at night. The other two mods I see, aren't able to adjust the rain at different background light levels, but have to do a uniform adjustment that also affects the appearance when it is bright as much as when it is dark. My mod sets up a function in the shader that I hope achieves a good appearance at all lighting levels.
How does it not make sense? Vortex will dynamically bypass the original .pak on deployment, and it makes it easier for people who use it. Mods don't have to go in a mods folder for vortex to work lol.
It literally makes zero sense to not make a mod like this vortex enabled - but it is the authors choice, so I respect that.
Anyhow @spoochy, so long as you have Vortex properly configured and you're using it's dynamic linking (symlinks) - all you need to do is download this and then manually install using the 'add mod' + symbol in vortex, pick the zip file and deploy as usual.
I would like to know more about Vortex but the documentation from the mod developers point of view seems to be non existent. Does it work automatically with every and any file that is changed?
oldunclesilas Not only during the rain. After returning the original files, there was no more flickering. Maybe it is not even related to the mod, just a coincidence
