I believe some of you are correct in different ways. I have done a ton of experimenting to try and figure out how the smithing is coded, and this is my best guess:

    • When you start smithing an item, it is at perfect quality (level 3 or 4 depending if you have the perk). The objective is to not make mistakes.
    • The threshold for how many mistakes you can make depends on the item you are crafting and your crafting level. Each mistake has different values for how much it will deduct from your ending score.

    How the hammer rhythm works:

    • There is 4 or 5 different sounds that your hammer will make. The best hit is a clear "ping" and the worst hit is a rattling thud.
    • The game looks at the time between your first two swings and records that time in milliseconds. Every swing after that will add more or less time depending on how close you were to your last swing.
    • The closer your timing is to your last hit, the better the hit result. Keeping a good rhythm gives the clear "ping" hits.
    • Henry will whistle a different tune based on the speed of your rhythm. You can easily test this for yourself.
    • If your timing is off, you won't get a clean "ping", deducting from your score. The further off you are, the worse the sound will get, and I am assuming an increased penalty.
    • If the part of the item you hit is not heated enough, it's not possible to get the best hit even if your timing is perfect.
    • Overheating increases the penalty to your score.
    • Hitting the same spot twice in a row adds a penalty.
    • Not distributing hits evenly throughout the different sections on each side adds a penalty. I think swords are divided into 4 sections, 8 total counting both sides.

So if your crafting skill is high and it is an "easy" recipe, you can ignore most of the penalties and still make a perfect weapon. But if you play around with the different recipes, you will find some are harder to make. Try to keep those penalties in mind and you will make them perfect.

The reason I like this mod that removes whistling is because I can't help myself from timing the moment I let go of my mouse-click with the whistle rhythm instead if following the hammer hits. So I will start with a good rhythm and then as soon as Henry starts whistling a tune to match my rhythm, it causes me to delay my next hit by 50% because my body involuntarily will try to sync my finger timing instead of the hammer hit!

Could you please make one that disables Henry's comments like "this is as cold as a dog's snout!" and "I'm halfway done"?

Oh thank you, I like to play actual music when I forge weapons (I tend to forge in bulk), and his whistling feks with mah moosik! D:<

Personally, Henry's whistling while forging doesn't bother me, but I am highly annoyed by the whistling of NPCs in the street, you know the one who whistles a techno or eurodance tune (I don't know if you know which one I'm talking about).
It triggers me every time since it's completely anachronistic to me. Is there a way to remove these?
    thanks in advance

Finally... it was cool during the tutorial the blacksmith saying that he does that while working but there s no point for you to do it lol

Either a lie or a misunderstanding. If you strike with the hammer in rhythm with Henry's whistling, you won’t lose stamina. Poor timing, on the other hand, leads to subpar results. When combined with the hard versions of the Rebalanced Blacksmithing and Sharpening (PTF) mod, it becomes even better—especially for those who enjoy fully immersing themselves in the role of a blacksmith.

Exactly, was so confused why this exists lol I use the whistle to know when to flip over. Once he's done with one song I flip it and do another and then quench.

I have ignored the whistling entirely every single time and have always gotten gold results.

The stamina part is true, but the timing has nothing to do with the result, as long as you have a steady rhythm and hit distribution you will get gold, regardless of your timing with the whistling.

But for the highest exceptional quality of any your product (higher than gold class) you need to follow the rhythm of the Henry´s whistling! THIS is the important purpose of it, lads :-)

You sir are my new hero.

I found this by advice from modding discord as I was thinking of making this mod myself.
I am completely noob to CryEngine though.

I saw you made a horse whistle begone mod too, I was wondering if maybe you could give some advice to me on how to achieve what I want with my own mod for removing catfight sounds? (it freaks out my cat while gaming)

    Thank you for this.

This is why PC gaming is the best. Because of people like you making the mods that remove the annoying stuff.

Thank you for this; I'm so glad someone finally cared about whistling irritation.

Is it possible to mute all other NPC whistling? Also what tools did you use to unpack/repack .bank files?

NPC whistling really bothers me a lot, but I couldn't find a way to mod it out myself.

    Best regards, my friend.

Could I make a request for when the modding utilities arrive? In Kuttenberg, almost every NPC warns you that I shouldn't walk alone because it's not safe. It is so damn annoying after a while. I hope you could make an “Unsafe Warning Be Gone” mod, that would be amazing!

There is some way that it is the other way?, I like listening to whistling Henry but what bothers me is that it is cut every time hit  0.1 second faster than the previous one

Unfortunately as of right now it's not possible to edit the sounds individually. Each one is located in a .bank file that we can't access yet as there isn't a KCD2 fmod project file. Once that's released we can get started on individual changes within the game itself.
