EDIT: uploaded an optional file with just the unlocks and without changes to companion controls.
The mod is tested with Steam version of the game, manual install. There are English and French texts present for the options menu, if you play in any other language, English text for the new three lines will be displayed instead. Numpad keys do work.
If you're not seeing new entries or the chat/consumable keys are still locked, it means the mod wasn't recognized by the game, i.e. it was not installed properly.
Troubleshooting guide: 1. Make sure you have the ownership of the game's install folder. If you have the game in Program Files - move it to some other location, out of any of the system folders. 2. Make sure your folder structure is correct: i.e. [Path to KCD2]\Mods\r457-hotkeys-mod\Data (etc) and NOT [Path to KCD2]\Mods\r457-hotkeys-mod-423-0-9-1739369918\r457-hotkeys-mod\Data. 3. The mod doesn't have <supports> section in mod.manifest file for a reason, but you can try adding it, it should look something like this: <supports><kcd_version>1.1.*</kcd_version></supports> (open mod.manifest with the notepad, add the line in between </info> and </kcd_mod> lines, save, close) 4. Be careful as the game has a known bug with reassigned keys. Keys are only assigned properly when you set them up from the main menu before you load your save or push continue. If you assign them after you loaded your save, there is a high chance those keys won't work properly. It's on the devs to fix, the bug has been reported multiple times. 5. Note that you need to hold the key to consume your potions, not just press it. 6. If you suspect a conflict (anything that changes/adds hotkeys is a potential conflict), backup your Mods folder and run the game with just this one mod installed. 7. Don't mix install methods - if you're using Vortex (Nexus mod manager), don't install mods manually, they won't work.
To those having trouble, there are two files available for download: r457-hotkeys-mod and r457-hotkeys-unlocked
'r457-hotkeys-mod' separates certain actions regarding the horse/dog, and I wasn't able to get this working. but if you just want the numpad and numbers to be bindable again then use 'r457-hotkeys-unlocked', I was able to get this one working.
To install: Steam users, right click the game in your game list, select 'Properties', select the 'Installed Files' tab, select 'Browse', then, in this location, if there is no folder called 'Mods' (without the quotes) then create it, then extract the contents of the downloaded file to the Mods folder.
I've been waiting for something like this since launch so I can assign my potions to F1~F4. Unfortunately... the mod doesn't work for me. It's installed correctly since I'm not new to this, but it simply doesn't work. I don't have any other mods that could cause a conflict, as none of my mods modify keybindings.
Any idea what could be causing this? I’d really like to use your mod.
Double-checked: the mod is working so, please, next time double check on your side before posting, because it takes no time to post, but a lot of time to check every potential bug.
First: you're not specifying in which way the mod doesn't work. The keys are still locked for you? Or they are not locked and you can assign, but the new assignments don't work?
Second: the game has a known bug with reassigned keys. Keys are only assigned properly when you set them up from the main menu before you load your save or push continue. If you assign them after you loaded your save, there is a high chance those keys won't work properly. It's on the devs to fix, the bug has been reported multiple times.
Third: you need to hold the key to consume your potions, not just press it.
Well, not only did I check twice before writing my comment—I even redownloaded and reinstalled it—but I also opened your mod files and reviewed them to confirm that none of my other mods modify the same files; all of this before reaching out to you in the first place. So I wouldn’t say I wrote without checking first...
As for the rest of the points:
When I say "It doesn't work," I mean exactly what I said in my first comment when I used the phrase " it simply doesn't work", meaning... it does absolutely nothing. It doesn’t allow me to reassign any key.
I checked before writing to you, and it doesn’t work either in the main menu or in-game.
I know I have to hold the key to use items... I’m not an idiot...
If, according to you, there's no error on your part, then there's nothing to be done, I guess. I'll check future versions if you ever update it.
There is a conflict between controls! To clarify I had conflicting mods and this mod wasnt working, all the options this mod unlocks were still locked. After removing my conflicting mods the options were no longer greyed out but it simply doesnt let me save any changes. This mod is exactly what I am looking for and I am sure it is awesome but clearly theres something else conflicting so im gonna go through my mods one by one and report back to see if it works.
edit: well that was fast, this is my only mod and it still does the same thing. I've downloaded other mods perfectly fine this is the only mod I've come across that doesnt seem to work unfortunately.
I updated the "no companion control changes" version of this mod for 1.2 along with support for the Unlimited Saving II mod. There's one section of hidden "haste keys" in the vanilla file that was kind of a mystery to me. r457 didn't have it in their original mod, so I removed it in this one too. So far it seems to be working fine... (if somebody figures out what those are, please let me know)
If you're using Unlimited Saving II, then make sure this mod comes AFTER Unlimited Saving II in the mod load order. If you're NOT using Unlimited Saving II, the mod will still work fine. You'll just see a bogus "@ui_keybind_quicksave" entry in the keybinds menu that you can ignore.
Question on the Purpose of this mod. With this mod, baring any issues, can it unlock to remap the move forward to right mouse button
It appears, please do confirm, W for forward cant be mapped to right mouse, it appears to be an etched in stone requirement mods be dammed
With only your mod installed and logging verified as loading it, and the version added, the latest version mod and game * Does not, can not unlock W for forward to be mapped to the right mouse button
THANK YOU for this. I'm old, so I had my keyboard controls already long in place by the time Quake 2 codified WASD as a standard, and I've always considered it terrible. Many of us anti-WASDers use ESDF, but I use DFGV because 1)More pinky keys 2)I'm a very skilled typist, so my hands feel more comfortable all on Home Row, so F is a better Fwd for me than R (also, F means I can reach V easier)
So, I have rebinded all controls in all games for 30 years.
Which means I *HATE* "hard-coded un-rebindable keys"
I have a mouse with quite a few thumb buttons, and I use those for things that I want to be able to do quickly, or do while moving. Since 99% of games do NOT hardcode NumPad #s as inputs, that's what I usually have my extra mouse buttons assigned to. Put these in combination with the 10 or so keys I can reach w/ my pinky and it means I usually never have to move my movement fingers (at least never more than a single key). THAT is a superior control.
But KCD2 had more hardcoded unrebindable controls than any game in recent memory. And the barber update nearly doubled it.
It utterly crippled my control scheme.
There are many mortal sins in game design. Unskippable cutscenes between a checkpoint and a boss fight. Defaulting to Motion Blur and Ambient Occulsion being on (aside from a tiny number of games, such as racing games). Non-rebindable keys, especially in a game w/ a complex control scheme, MIGHT be the biggest design sin of all.
Again, thank you. You saved my game 150 hours in. I cannot overstate how appreciative I am.
After today's Patch 1.2 my numpad key binds was locked and unusable. So I manually downloaded the r457-hotkeys-unlocked and installed it. And it worked flawlessly today until I tried to Butcher a Wolf. The Usable shows up as a blank with no key bind assigned and is non functional. If I remove the r457-hotkeys-unlocked Mod from KCD2 game directory then the Butcher Icon works fine, but then I'm still locked out of the numpad Key binds.
I use the numpad heavily, as I am left-handed. I was able to rebind keys to numpad keys without the mode so far (I bought the game 2 weeks ago, and play on a Windows PC, steam download).
However, since today's patch 1.2., all numpad number keys have been bound to the quick access menu (QAM), and have been locked. I.e., my current assignments are in conflict with these, and do not work anymore in game.
In the key binding menu, although I can select numpad number keys, these are then indicated red, and cannot be saved due to conflict with the QAM keys.
The mod seems to work correctly for me, except that it does not show all the binding options which are present since today's KCD2 patch 1.2. When trying to save my key bindings, I get a key conflict error, although no visible conflicts exist. I assume the mode is not compatible anymore, and the save conflict is reported because of the new, fixed bindings, which are not displayed by the mod, but still checked by the game.

First, load the Mod.
Run the game
set up key binds.
quit game.
disable mod
run game again.
if it works for you as it did for me it reasserts the butcher and probably barber function without reverting your key scheme.
