can i ask a question im really confused and have been watching bunch of videos on it. i seem to not do combos or atleast its very rare for me to do, even if i do exactly what the combo should be. usually they just block it or i cant do the last hit (like it wont let me do the last hit for some reason)
Here's some advice: The likelihood of the opponent perfect blocking/dodging is based on both their weapon skills and your own as well, so if you go against a villager, it's a lot easier for your hits to go through without getting dodged/perfect blocked than it would be against a master swordsman. It's also easier for your attacks to go through if you use a sword with 30 in Swords skill vs using a sword with 5 in Swords skill. If they block you, it's fine, you can continue the combo and it will work. But if they perfect block, dodge, or master strike you midway through it, you have to start the combo again from the beginning. Typically, throwing out ripostes after perfect blocking means the opponent will most likely perfect block and riposte you back. But side dodging their attacks usually nets you a free hit. Clinching is also a useful mechanic that is often overlooked, very helpful to get an opening hit in.
There's some perks that will help you land combos more consistently: Warfare: Feint and Masterful Feint allow you to have an easier time landing hits if you feint. Though, personally, feints are more finicky for me to deal with than combos and other game mechanics, so I only use them a little, usually only for the opening hit of a combo. Your playstyle may differ. Swords: Opening Strike and Opening Strike II allow subsequent hits to be easier to land if the first one wounds the opponent. Any other perk that increases your weapon skill, or reduces the enemy's, will help as well.
The best thing to do would be practice. Find a trainer that will let you do practice fights against them, and just fight them over and over. Master Tomcat or Black Bartosch in Trosky, or Guard Commander Hans Plümel in Kuttenberg can do practice fights with you most of the day. There's a mod on Nexus called Simple Combos if you're interested in making combos easier. The mod also has an optional file that disables all NPC ability to perfect block/dodge/master strike you, so if you just want to practice without worrying about getting your combos interrupted until you get the timing down, that is also an option.
now i understand what the actual issue is! i play on Controller and apparently game gets fked if u have the deadzone to 0. which i usually play with. if its set on default deadzone i get combos frequently. this is really odd. try it for urself and tell me if im crazy or not. i just tested for like an hour.
Good thing you figured it out. Maybe make a post on steam to let the devs know. They might fix it in the next patch or two. Hopefully you have more fun with the combat now.
Thanks for the help!. in case anyone also struggling, on ur last hit u need to wait a split second more so dont just mash the attack button but a 0,3 mil sec delay before u attack.
Could you kindly explain what 'CombatFragmentMetaData' means, and how to find matching data? I've looked into the file and figured out positive AttackCoefs have been doubled compared to the original while there are too many strings only for combos. I'd rather avoid any unexpected changes so I wanted to make some adjustments but was unsure I was interpreting correctly. So, the curiosity lies in why there are so many changes if it only changes the last combo hit damages.
Yeah I was preparing to write a message like this. I was dueling some people yesterday, I never did one single combo in the fight but I won very quickly. Without this mod, my attacks were considerably weaker in the same fights. And looking at the code, it clearly changes all damages, not only combos'. So uninstall this if you don't want your fights being all messed up.
Normal attack GUIDs of type CombatAttackGen and CombatAttackSpecialGen do not exist in this xml file so I'm not sure how thats possible.
To be clear, there are a lot of combo entries because some combos have different animations depending on the opponents weapon. So this causes multiple permutations per combo that add up to over 100 animation entries for just combos.
