I am able to use this mod without issue on Steam. Install it with OpenKH which is the mod manager for these legacy KH games. This will hook the files in vs outright replacing them. OpenKH is all I have ever used.
Also, if you want to remove the files that cause the extra bold text, follow these steps before installing the mod. Granted this will mean on screen text wont be HD.
2. Extract the HD textures patch from the downloaded zip file so that you have TexturesHD_3D_All.dddpcpatch.
3. Extract the patch file using an archiving tool such as 7zip. Make sure to use the option "Extract here". **This extraction can take several minutes, but let it finish** 4. You should now have the folders; kh3d_first ,kh3d_second, kh3d_third, kh3d_fourth.
5. Navigate to "kh3d_first\remastered\font\en\bin"
6. Delete the folder "mesfont.bcfnt" or move it to another location outside the mod folders if you desire.
7. Go back a few folders so you once again see kh3d_first ,kh3d_second, kh3d_third, kh3d_fourth.
9. Right click those folders and select "Add to New Folder.zip" using an archiving tool. **Make sure it is a .zip format**
10. The mod files will now begin to compress/pack. This will take some time to finish.
11. Once done, rename the zip file (extension included) to "TexturesHD_3D_Allv2.dddpcpatch". **The actual file name doesn't matter. TexturesHD_3D_Allv2 is just what I use. The .dddpcpatch file extension is what actually matters.
12. Install the modified patch as you normally would.
When I try your method, KHPC-Patch Manager (Step 8) just gives me this error:
Error: Ionic.Zip.ZipException: Compressed or Uncompressed size, or offset exceeds the maximum value. Consider setting the UseZip64WhenSaving property on the ZipFile instance.
bei Ionic.Zip.ZipEntry.SetZip64Flags() bei Ionic.Zip.ZipEntry.PostProcessOutput(Stream s) bei Ionic.Zip.ZipEntry._WriteEntryData(Stream s) bei Ionic.Zip.ZipEntry.Write(Stream s) bei Ionic.Zip.ZipFile.Save() bei KHPCPatchManager.Main(String[] args)
Now KHPC-Patch Manager actually let me install the files, but it still has the same issue as before: Infinite Blackscreen after starting DDS in the Launcher.
Then I tried the second thing you mentioned: Installing OpenKH-Mod Manager, but I couldn't even get to the point of installing the HD-textures, as OpenKH gives me this error when trying I to extract the game files as OpenKH suggests:
An Exception was caught! Value cannot be null. (Parameter path1")
I tried different versions of OpenKH and instaling it on another drive, but nothing worked. I am really at a loss here and don't know what to do...
Does this mod still work for the Epic Games version? Whenever I try to patch the HD textures it freezes the game at an infinite black screen. Other texture mods like HD Maps patch just fine.
I own KH3D on PS4 and 3DS but not on PC. I'm interested in obtaining copies of the upscaled HD textures of the TWEWY gang, but as far as I know, downloading this mod is useless without having the PC game. Is there any way one could release or send me the HD Textures of the Shibuyans?
EDIT: Never mind, it turns out KHPCPatchManager patches are compressed archives containing replacement files, so I actually already have them all. Good to know!
EDIT 2: I thought Josh and Shiki's eyelashes could use some improvement, so I edited their textures and posted them in my gallery: https://www.nexusmods.com/users/7586170?tab=user+images Feel free to use them in the mod if you so choose, or not. I tried to edit Beat's eyelashes too, but they were beyond any hope for improvement short of redrawing them entirely, and honestly it's not that noticeable. Also, I noticed that unlike the 3DS version of the game, the bits of 2D hair on the back of Joshua's head are shaped differently when seen from the front and the back in this game. It's strange that the 2.8 HD team would edit his texture like that.
Found a bug! Looks like dialog box text is messed up, the only other dddpatches I have installed are japanese vo and Hidedropgague. Other text displays fine.
Yeah I don't have choice, it's the same texure for the subtitle. When changing the font resolution the game displays it in black in the journal and in the dialog bubbles (but still white for the scenes).
Thank you for another great texture pack! I've been waiting for this one to release before starting DDD. Low res HUD is extremely noticable on 4K screen and character textures also can be pretty low res up when close up in cutscenes. And this texture pack fixes it. I wish Square would officially add HD fonts at least, shouldn't be too hard. Those are HD remasters and they are already somewhat outdated. Like 2.8 was a PS4 only release, why is it so low res? ( I know it was a 3DS game but still ) Also just curious, is there a texture that contains entire font thats used through the game or each "sentence" is basically a separate texture?

1.
