About this mod
Some reorganization of Boxer's moves to be more 'naturally flowing' and probably easier to use if you're not good at the game. Allows very easy juggling.
- Permissions and credits
NOTE: Playstation button notation will be used, since it was the original default platform for the game.
S = Square (Light attack or 'Jabs')
T = Triangle (Heavy attack or 'Finish Blow')
O = Circle (Grab/throw, or Hook in this style)
X = Cross (Step)
What's changed:
- Jabs now will loop into themselves infinitely after an initial combo of Left Jab, Left Jab, Right Jab, Left Step Jab. After the initial 4 Jabs, Yagami will simply repeat Left Jab and Right Jab over and over until you stop mashing S or press T or O to combo out of it. Yagami will now also correctly only use Left Jabs by default regardless of stance, since he is in orthodox stance. Right Jabs will only now show up under very specific circumstances.
Pressing T after the 3rd Jab will make Yagami do a 'step Jab' that was his original 3rd Jab animation. The Step Jab has now been built into the default S combo. This move is now a 'linker' to let you know where you're at in a given combo and has a very significant amount of hitstop added to let you know that once you're past this point, you have to pick a combo route out if you want to use infinite jabs. Pressing S again from here will perform Triple Jab. Pressing T will go into his Straights and the Straight Lancer finisher. Pressing O will perform the Todoroki rush combo.- Pressing and holding T as a first attack will perform the same Heavy Straight as the Counter Straight, with the same effect.
- New O finishers have been added at all points. Press O at any time in a string to see what they do. The default vanilla S,T,O combo still performs a pop-up launcher Uppercut. Yagami also watched JoJo's Bizzare Adventure at some point and learned to do Star Platinum's ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA punches. ?
- Front, Left and Right sway step attack has been replaced with the pop-up launcher Uppercut. Back sway attack is unchanged.
- First 2 attacks of the Extreme Heat rush combo has been replaced with the 3rd, Yagami will now just uppercut 3x in a row as the first two straights were honestly crap. The uppercut guard breaks, soooo... ?. The Todoroki Rush combo at the end is unchanged, and the entire Ex Heat rush will loop into itself.
- Skill requirement for the Uppercut and Triple Jab has been removed, you can now perform these moves even if you don't have the skill.
- Timing for all the Counters has been greatly increased to make it extremely lenient, for those who suck at Tiger Drop, now you can just tap the button right as the enemy starts moving and it will counter.
- The Jab Counter will now allow an immediate follow up combo which leads into the default Jab loop.
- Ex Boost - Yagami will perform Makunouchi Ippo's full Dempsey Roll™ combo. Left liver blow -> Right lunging upper (Gazelle punch) into the repeated left-right swaying hooks. This move has 3 finishers which can be chosen after a certain point in the move where Yagami goes into 'auto mode'. Press S, T or O to pick a finisher.
- Some bonus 'fun allowed' moves have been added. Hold L1 (Guard) and press either S, T or O to find out. None of this is balanced, and is completely overpowered. I mean... Tiger Drop on command?... ? (NOTE: If you don't like these, simply don't use them, requests/demands to remove these will be ignored.)
The general idea behind this mod was to simply make the Boxer style pretty much 'noob friendly' for anyone not good at the style switching based juggling. Default vanilla Boxer style could juggle on it's own with stuff like Jab, Jab, step, repeat, but a lot of things just felt too restrictive, hence the mod. I also didn't like how the sole 'quick pop-up launcher' in the game was gated behind a skill AND a combo, so now you can just bust it out whenever for a quick launch like an Electric Wind God Fist from Tekken.
V1.3.2
Alright, alright, I knew I said the last update was final but after some extended play, a few things were constantly bugging me. That, coupled with my slowly increasing understanding of moveset modding has allowed me to further refine the mod in ways I previously could not do when it was initially made. That, coupled with some feedback, has prompted this revision update.
Changes:
- Yagami will no longer randomly change Jab hand depending on positioning. Now he will always lead with a Left Jab no matter what, since he is in orthodox stance instead of Southpaw. This is a deliberate change to help alleviate some confusion on where he is at in a chain.
- The infinite Jab loop has been reworked. Yagami will now perform Left Jab -> Left Jab -> Right Jab -> Left Step Jab --> Infinite Left-Right Jab loop if you keep mashing S. Once he goes into the infinite Left-Right Jabs, you can press T or O at any time to combo out of it, and then you'll have to sit through the initial L,L,R,LS Jab combo before you get to the infinite spam again.
- The 4th Step Jab has a significant amount of hitstop added. This is to make it easier to identify that you have reached the 4th hit in the combo and any further S tapping from here will lead to the infinite Jab loop. This is to aid players who are aiming to utilize the various combo followups from this point more efficiently. Now you can simply watch for the hitstop/slowdown and then pick your combo route.
- The Straight combo route after the 4th Step Jab has been slightly changed. Yagami will now perform a normal Straight, then a Dash Straight, then finally the Chizuru Lancer straight finisher. During the Dash Straight, pressing O will transition into the Hook combo route while pressing S will lead into Triple Jab, which allows you to exit the combo route back into the start of the Jab loop.
- The Chizuru Lancer has been buffed to a level worthy of a finishing straight. It now Guard Breaks and will occasionally stun, and will also ragdoll the enemy on hit. The move now feels like a real boxing combo finish right straight.
- The Dempsey Roll combo now will always open with a low Left Body Blow/Liver Blow, absolute. When in Ex Boost, pressing O will only ever give you this left body punch as a first press. This is a deliberate thematic change (fix) that was always intended from this mod's conception. I simply didn't know how to do it until recently.
- Other small bugs corrected and some move properties adjusted. Nothing too noticable to the normal player... This is mostly me fixing shit that was bugging me up until now.
This should now really be the final update... I've fixed most of the issues and things bugging me... but eh, Final Fantasy is final too, we know how that goes. It's ABSOLUTELY TOTALLY final! Trust me™!
This is my first mod, so please be kind. I'm still learning about moveset editing and can't add brand new moves yet. Feel free to leave suggestions in the comments, or find me in the Yakuza Modding Community discord.
