Found a way for those having trouble. You have to first convert it to a place other than where your saves are originally (I use my flash drive for the output) then hit encrypt then convert then decrypt
rough ex: Input : steam save
output: external device
(idk why but it works for me that way). If you have no saves in an alternate place like a flash drive, copy the selected slot you'd like to edit from your steam save and paste it to an external device then try the first steps above. Edit what you need then drag and drop that edited save into your steam save hit yes on replacing the file. Now open AAstories2savetool again but this time both input and output will be the steam save you just replaced. Hit encrypt then fix save. Select a color palette then ok. That should do it. Repeat this process to edit however many times you like. Playing on 1.6.0.
I am so lost... I would like to learn how to save edit properly. Could someone please take the trouble of writing down an updated guide? Is this thing even working on version 1.5.3?
Same here, have tried in 3 different PCs, always crashed regardless I choose decrypt or convert. Seems I have followed everything to the letter. Put both exe in the same folder, with / without steam64, with / without convert to Switch. It always crash. I also thought that it might not work anymore for the latest version, but there are also someone from Sep this year that says its working.. Hope someone can help

I wasn't able to Decrypt to use it with https://www.nexusmods.com/monsterhunterstories2wingsofruin/mods/4
Everytime I insertet the input save , then steam ID and clicked on Decript Save Toll just crashes...
What I had to do to edit my save is pretty weird: Convert to save to switch version Use a save editor for the switch version https://gbatemp.net/threads/monster-hunter-stories2-savedate-editor-modified-version.592628/ convert back to PC
OK so for anyone lost go to here https://www.steamidfinder.com for your 64 id JUST THE NUMBERS AT THE END next for your character files you want to go to C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/userdata/(YOUR STEAM ID)/1277400/remote grab the saves then put it in put the save you want to edit IN BOTH INPUT AND OUTPUT and make sure to put in the steam id then it should work good day
I forgot to put in my steam ID when encrypting/decrypting my save, and now it has invalid data and can't use any online functionality. Is there any way to revert this (without a previous/backup save) or is it permanent?
Tutorial: Extract AAStories2SaveTool.exe and AndoStories2Tool.exe to where your savefile is. /*If u r not sure where it is, research mhr_slot_ in C:/ or game directory.*/ Use AAStories2SaveTool.exe to decrypt or encrypt savefile like mhr_slot_1.sav. Dont forget to insert steam id.
Corrupted savefile issue: Somehow you may find save location changed, savefile corrupted, that means your steam id is also changed. Just decrypt and encrypt your old savefile with new steam id. Solved. //Example: my new savefile location is C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Goldberg SteamEmu Saves\789490\remote. New steam id at C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Goldberg SteamEmu Saves\settings.

I've got my save file from my Switch.
Converted it from NSW to PC
Decrypted
Edited a Monstie
Saved
Encrypted
Converted back to NSW
Moved file back into Switch save folder
Loaded game and the save file just doesn't show. Previously I had a save in save slot 1 and now I don't. Just the autosave.
I've also placed a backup file into my switch saves folder and slot 1 reappears so I'm assuming the issue is in the conversion process somewhere.

What I had to do to edit my save is pretty weird:
Convert to save to switch version
Use a save editor for the switch version https://gbatemp.net/threads/monster-hunter-stories2-savedate-editor-modified-version.592628/

I wasn't expecting this to work but it did lmao.

Edit: found the steam id, but it still say it's corrupted (and new tries also always get this outcome)
edit: nevermind....it was confusing to use but i figured it out
