Heads up if anyone else gets this. If Lilium's HDR Black Floor Fix is showing (ERROR) you need to set the CSP_OVERRIDE variable. (It may have failed to auto-set)
I can't find any other CSP's in it so the CSP to use for HDR should be "CSP_HDR10" (I tried looking at the code for HDR400 and failed)
I do hope you update this if ever needed. RenoDX has issues on AMD cards (Water physics or whatnot that setting is) have an issue where it causes a square effect in the water in addition to the latest constantly being flagged for a trojan. This is a good alternative that looks better than some other fiddling or risking AMD issues.
You can but I would advise against it, the recent RenoDX addon is much higher HDR quality and if you want to change it slightly, it is better to change sliders in RenoDX itself instead of the reshade (don't forget to first press the "RenoDX" button in the add-on for the recommended settings to be applied). Additionally, reshade would eat more resources from your PC, while slider changes in Reno would not.
However, one thing I recommend is leaving the latest sharpening filter from 2.4 ON for the higher clarity of the fine details, but all other filters can be turned off.
everything at default, so 10. The game can still look darker than I'd like to in certain locations or being oversaturated in certain locations, but I think that's just how shitty the game's color grading is. I'm currently testing RenoDX though and I think I got some better results by using it + implementing some minor color changes than just using raw reshade preset.
I didn't have too much time with it yet, so I'd like to test it our a bit more, but I will update this page with the last change I did to reshade and with a reshade for RenoDX specifically when I have a good idea on what's the best preset.
The colour work on this is really rather nice, well done!
ASUS PG34WCDM, set peak brightness to 12 - it goes to 1200 nits when properly set up - looks _real good_, and a whole different world from SDR or trying to force the ingame sliders to not crush whites or blacks or blow out highlights or *endless litany of faults*.
I did turn off CAS as I always find it obnoxious and fake-looking.
I think maybe some skin tones are starting to look a little orange in places - using the screenshots as an example, I think the ideal is somewhere between "Modded 2.1" and "Modded 2.2".
I actually reduced the colorfulness a little bit in 2.3 as well, so you might find skin tones a little better there, but you can also try changing the values in the "colorfulness" shader a little more. In 2.1 it was not included at all, in 2.2 it was included with 0.15 value in the shader. I think if you drop it to 0.10 - 0.12 you might have your perfect color value :)
but also thanks, I agree that in-game sliders don't really do much in terms of making the picture look better in HDR, so far I'm really happy with the last version, so I think I'll be sticking with it for now.
CAS is a preference depending on your current in-game sharpness and upscalers. For example, if you don't use any upscalers and have the resolution scaled higher, I can see CAS being a detriment instead of improvement. However, playing 1440p with DLSS4 it felt to me like an additional added benefit to details and color vibrancy (due to more minor details highlighted), so you can also tweak the sharpness setting to your liking to see if you'll find a lower value more detailed for you instead of turning it off completely <3
P.S. after testing a bit more I'm pretty sure the game just has completely butchered color grading in some scenes, so I kept trying to adjust settings but the 2.3 felt the most good looking for me after all the tests, so I think it will be the last version.
I think it will work but it is very likely your whites will be crushed. However, if you adjust the in-game setting for maximum peak brightness (the very first one) it should look better. Aim for the balance where the squares dissapear for the first time.
Checked it, seems to work perfectly fine in HDR 400 True Black too, just make sure to adjust your in-game first HDR setting for the max peak brightness to the correct value (should be 5 I think)
With reshade off the squares disappear at 5, with reshade on they disappear at 4. I'll compare 4 and 5. (edit: 5 looks better.) Uploaded a bunch of images with it set to 5, also, I took the images with version 2, not 2.1. didn't see that there was a new version. With monitor (AW3423DWF) set to peak 1000, squares disappear at 7-8, with reshade off they disappear at 10. I have not noticed much difference in game between 8 and 10, i'll leave it at 8 for now. I'll play around with it some more during a daytime scene.
Don't forget to change your windows color calibration when switching between 400 and 1000 peak brightness as well for best results. Also a new version with slightly better colors was just uploaded, so feel free to try it out as well <3
Really liking the new version. yeah, I did change the windows calibration. if anyone else doesn't know, on windows 11 download the hdr calibration app from microsoft store. make sure to turn off nvidia overlay while using it or it doesn't work right. you can turn it back on when done.
Which do you think looks better, cailbrated in game while reshade is on or off? squares disappear at different brightness. Also, seems like the squares disappear differently depending on scene, probably the ABL kicking in? looks different calibrating at title screen vs in game, for example. I went back to true black 400.
I think it's best to calibrate in-game at the peak brightness of the expected HDR mode, so 10 for Peak 1000 (as it usually caps at 993) and 5 for true black (as from what I know it usually caps at around 470 peak brightness), but I am no expert, so I think just pick settings you enjoy and after just have fun with the game.
Hi thanks for the hardwork. Can you add a simple instruction of how to install this mod. I'm not familiar with reshade so wouldbe a huge help if you can.
1. download the latest RE Framework from https://github.com/praydog/REFramework-nightly/releases and extract ONLY the dinput8.dll into your MH Wilds folder. 2. download the latest reshade without addon support from https://reshade.me/ 3. download this and place the files in your MH Wilds folder. 4. install reshade and point it to your MH Wilds exe. choose dx 11/12 and select the ini file from step 3 during installation 5. after launching game hit insert to close re framework and hit home and select performance mode at the bottom of reshade. you can set a key under settings to toggle effects to compare on/off

Does the mod you mentioned do anything differently compared to Disable Lens Distortion? I use this one and I love it.

edit: i tried it, looks better. no hazy look, better contrast
