A Rus' voyevoda is lower than a knyaz, though. A knyaz is a prince (though it literally means 'king' via the Germanic 'König'), hence is one of the highest ranks of Slavic nobility. A voyevoda literally means 'war leader', and as the title implies, usually acted as the leader of an army or warband under a knyaz, though in some cases voyevodas were also given the role of lower nobility, which included administrative jobs in fortified settlements.
Of course, in Poland, Moldova, Vallachia, and some other places voyevodes had other roles.
As a Russian Slav, I say that you are completely right about the status of the knyaz'(yes at the end "'") and voyevoda. But as for the origin of the word "knyaz'", you presented a Western version (western scientists have only one version and it is generally accepted by Western sciens, therefore it is the most popular), but this does not seem very convincing and some hasty especially when you know Slavic languages and a bunch of their words that fit the role of the ancestor. many of Slavic philologists believe that it came from Slavic. There are many versions because many ancient words in Slavic are suitable for the ancestors of the "knyaz'". Personally, the most plausible version seems to me to be the origin of this word from the Slavic "kon'" (horse) and "konyaz''. He sat on a horse during campaigns, battles, and when riding around his domain. He is always seen on horse.
A small thing I've noticed. When I go to talk to someone, or if I look at their encyclopedia entry, their title appears as intended. But if I tell a noble there's something I'd like to discuss, the dialog option "I would like to enter the service of..." displays the faction leader's title as "Cannot Find". As in "Cannot Find Monchug" or "Cannot Find Rhagaea" and so on, for every faction leader. I can upload a screenshot, if that'd be helpful.
For reference, I'm on version 1.2.8 with the following mods that might be relevant: Encyclopedia Extender Reforged, Encyclopedia Filters Extended, Diplomacy, and Family Tree. Vassal Titles is loaded between Encyclopedia Filters Extended and Diplomacy.
Two things that not sure are intended - Companions showing noble titles (Prince, Lady, etc) when they are not nobles. - Mercenary clans members using the titles of the Kingdom they are hired by. Don't think it makes sense but not sure if technically avoidable.
+1 was about to report on this aswell. I think it works as inteded, only that this might've been forgotten to be seperate from companion/mercenary titles. Only bloc would know.
Lord/lady would be fine imo. Only prince and princess for companions is kinda immersion breaking lol
I also think different titles would be good for mercenary clans and minor factions! Or, if at all possible no titles at all. They're not really nobility anyway. Companions on the other hand, could simply be called Lord or Lady - as they're not true nobility, but are technically official members of the clan now.
Are the campaign map name changes on the tooltip permanent? As I disabled the mod to test and while Encyclopedia titles were removed, campaign map titles remained.
I haven't personally used Noble Titles but I heard that it's not going in too much details. Like regular clan members non-leaders etc. This mod has various titles for clan regular members, ie non-leaders. I also heard that it has some "double title" issue in chats - this one doesn't have this. And I also saw that you can't see titles of people in the campaign map - in this mod you are able to see those titles directly in main map as well ( When you hold ALT ) - this is same for you if you joined those factions ( i.e. if you joined Vlandia and your clan tier is 4, it will say Count ChickenAlfredo's Party )

Anyone tested for the latest version, yet?
