Firstly, I'd like to say thank you for all the interaction and praise, it helps keep me motivated.

Secondly I've had a lot of questions about older versions so I whipped up a build for earlier versions!

If you're using the latest patch (as of writing this, 1.2.8)
Download the main file I've tested this extensively and it works like a dream

Before posting any issues, bugs or questions, please make sure you're running the latest patch of this mod, I update it frequently and often I've already made a fix for the issue in the latest patch.

If you're not using the latest patch
Download the 1.1.6 version (but this will always take longer to be updated as I have to download the game again to test it)
    Here
I've not tested this nearly as much but all the core functionality seemed to work fine with no issues that I came across, let me know if you come across anything.

Just to keep you guys updated (I'll edit this as I go)

    1.0.6.4 is OUT!

    - Fixed a bug that caused the Herald to only spawn at the throne
    - Tweaked the encyclopedia entries for recruited companions
    - Fixed a bug that was causing issues when using troop promotion alongside mods that added custom cultures

    Currently Being Worked on:
for 1.0.6.5 (Bug fixes for 1.0.6 if they appear)

    • Bugfixes for any bugs that appear in 1.0.6
      - Specifically rn:
      1. Siege crash/ Battle crash - Seems to be specifically when combining with custom culture mods etc. but I'm currently testing different     mods seen in load orders from provided crash reports.
      2. Console error: Appearance attribute not declared - should be an easy fix.
      3. CTD After saving siblings in story mode - Solution seems to be just remove the feature I added to campaign, which sucks but since I     can't replicate the issue it's the next logical solution
      4. Dead family can teach companions - Will add extra checks to make sure only alive family members can teach companions.

    for 1.0.7

    • Ability to recruit a Village Sheriff from the House Herald for each of your home settlement's bound villages. [In development]
    • And through menus and the Village Sheriff Villages that are bound to your home settlement have extra features [In development]

Currently Being worked on (in the background)

    • Mod Compatibility checking and fixes where possible
    • Localisation for all new additions to the mod

Planned Features (not currently being worked on, and depending on how easy it is to do, might never happen):

    • Hijack clan members from vanilla "home" and make them spawn at the clan home instead.
    • Option to create branch clans from family members
    • Herald Marry family member possibly create a "marriage offer" rather than just straight up marries them.
    • More Custom NPCs with extra functionality at your clan's Castles and Towns. (more info on this soon)
    • More intrigue options for the herald, such as sending agents to capture enemy lords.
    • Convince notables to support you instead of their existing patron (through a quest?) provided you own the settlement they live in.
    • Options specific to whether you are a morally good (positive traits) or morally bad (negative traits) Clan leader, for example option to make philanthropic gestures to the people of your clan's home settlement (increasing loyalty) for a good hero and things like extorting money from the notables for bad heroes.

    Announcement:
I'm super busy at the moment doing up my first home while working a full time job, so I'm taking a break from modding until I'm settled.
I am not abandoning this project by any means, but I cannot and will not put a mod before my personal life or future, I hope you will understand.
I'll see you in a few months time for more updates and hopefully fix some of the issues people have been having, get outside and enjoy the spring/summer season 😎
Update: I'm still super busy with personal stuff and work, but I am finding small pockets of time to dedicate to this project, seeing as so many of you still use the mod and generally speaking most people are enjoying using it! I'll keep working on it when I can!

Loving the mod so far, but struggling to get any recruited troops to the companion level. I'm not sure what the threshold is, but none of my soldiers ever actually get there. Is that editable in the config file anywhere? Is there potentially a bug? I threw like five guys at a band of twenty or so bandits and somehow none of them killed enough to be promoted.

Hey, so I've found what I think are some issues with the mod relating to how it handles the encyclopedia entries (it seems like it is creating static entries rather than dynamic ones, and some of the strings aren't appearing properly), but I also don't have access to the source code.

Anyway, this is all to say that I'm going to fumble my way through trying to fix this like a drunk orangutan. I don't REALLY know what I'm doing,  but I think I've identified the issues and am going to see what I can come up with.

Encyclopaedia is a headache, but you're probably bang on, I don't use harmony so everything uses vanilla mechanics to add and remove things, unless it exists for the vanilla modules I can't use it and I can't access anything Taleworlds didn't originally intend to be accessed. However it is something I will look into.

I created a simple patch but it's sort of an imperfect fix, basically it resets the encyclopedia entries to vanilla. This means the bespoke "elevated to a lord/from a lowly x" text is gone (which is disappointing) but it does remove the static entries. I did this mostly because, personally, I will often change companions names to be something more unique/flavorful and so that way the encyclopedia "biography" doesn't mismatch on names. It is kinda an edge case, others probably wouldn't even notice, but because I do name changes, I did notice.

one question for troop promotion.  if there is at least one female soldier in the party, would there be a chance to promote one?
i didn't install modded female troops, so i refer to vanilla sisters soldier.

You can promote any troops if they meet the kill quota :D

Yes that is where you promote troops, but ANY troop IF it gets the kill quota can be suggested by a companion :)

I wonder if it would be possible to make it so ALL troops that meet the requirement could be promoted. Just queue the dialogue up.

This is the ONLY reason I don't use this mod over Distinguished Service. Distinguished Service and the guys who maintain that have their own issues with forcing hundreds of free skill points on promoted companions and they seem to refuse to add in options to opt out of that, but, I can go in and edit those stats with like character reload or something. However, with Distinguished Service I can actually pick from all of the potential candidates, whereas with this, it seems like you get one choice, and you don't get to pick which one, you get to accept or turn down the one provided for you.

Currently the way it works is only the BEST warrior gets the chance to be recruited, so say 5 meet the original criteria but one dude got 12 kills while the others got 10 or 11 then the guy with 12 kills would get promoted, this originally was for two reasons:
1 - Immersion: You are unlikely to notice EVERYONE who does well in a battle, but that one Horseman who killed a bunch of guys even out-doing his teammates? hell yeh he's getting a promotion.
2 - Balance: I actually used Distinguished service a very very long time ago but I always felt it was a bit idk cheaty? I would have 5-6 companions from a single large battle and that just doesn't make sense to me.

This is a great mod. I've been using it for a long time.

    A few suggestions:

    • Could a renown or influence cost be added to adopting a companion as a Sworn Sibling, or a child as a clan member? At the moment, it appears to be free, saving companion slots. The influence cost (for example, of 250 influence) would be the cost of legitimizing a person - similar to how in Game of Thrones a ruler would need to be persuaded by a lord to legitimize a bastard, promoting them to a member of a house. A renown cost could reflect a hit to a house's prestige due to accepting a non-highborn family member.
    • Spending time with a companion and growing their skills seems unbalanced - the increases tend to be large, and apply to both the player character and the companion. I think they should be quite smaller. A config option for changing the amount of experience gained from this activity would be good.
    • The amount of experience gained from training a companion feels balanced in general, but very random. I would suggest reducing the randomness of the increase.

I actually love all these suggestions...
      Might investigate these.
