For anyone having a problem with this texture, I have the solution for you.

After placing the DDS in the correct data folder  Data/textures/creatures  Create a txt file in your main folder called ArchiveInvalidation.txt if you do not have one already (the folder where the Data, Install info and mods folders are located.) in that text file copy and paste this text

    textures/creatures/radscorpion/radscorpion.dds

As long as archive invalidation is turned on, this should work.  I have it automatically set through FOMM, I believe all mod managers should have this option.  Manually setting up archive invalidation should not be reasonably required so I will not further explain how to do that.  As long as you follow this guide you should get these textures to work.

    Happy modding people, God bless.

Do you have a txt file in your new vegas folder called ArchiveInvalidation.txt?  Even with archive invalidation on, it requires the txt file as a source, I didn't have one and realized that I had to add it myself, that was the problem I personally faced.

After making the txt file I copied and pasted this into it. textures/creatures/radscorpion/radscorpion.dds

if this doesn't help you then It's a problem that I am not aware of.

Sorry if I can't be of any help.

Holy s#*!, you're right, it actually worked! Thank you so much! Why the mod author didn't bother to mention doing this in order for the retexture to actually take effect, I'll never know. But finally I can enjoy the Radscorpions as they were intended to look in a desert environment.

I'm using vortex. How do I check if Archive Invalidation is on?

At first it didn't work, but then I noticed there was a space at the end of textures/creatures/radscorpion/radscorpion.dds
I deleted that space and it just worked. Nice.

Thanks bro, this worked for me. I will never understand all of this ArchiveInvalidation stuff, and why every other retexture I have downloaded for this game works correctly right out of the box through MO2 but this specific retexture (literally one single texture) doesn't work. Very odd! :-)

It's likely an Archive invalidation issue.
The same things happened to me.

Still does not work. What did you do to make it work for you? Even with achive invalidation switched on/off it did not work.

turn archive invalidation off/on. most mod managers allow you to do this these days. If a texture mod is not working for you this is the first fix that works 99% of the time. Mod organiser 2 can be set to do this automatically.

Well, there already are brown\ orange radscorpions in FNV, the tree-bark scorpions, or whatever they're called. I'm just saying that this mod is a bit redundant if you think about it.

I admire your attempt to bring the F1/F2 atmosphere but I have to say that radscorpions are brown in those titles, not orangy with dark black spots.
Bright areas that original radscorpions have on the screenshot are supposed to be lighting from render, so without it they would have been mostly just plain brown.

So sadly in order to truly bring the F1/F2 radscorpion look to New Vegas I guess it would take more than just one minute recolor.

In my opinion this mod for Fallout 3 is very close:

Thank you for posting a link to the recommended mod! Admittedly, my mod does not replicate the original palette in that shades of orange are ubiquitous on certain body parts. As a consequence, the vibrancy of the color distracts from the original, in that regard. The dark brown areas counteract it to a degree.

I am torn between my mod, and the one you have presented on your comment.

You can just use that one, it works in NV

Even if I wasn't trying to make NV feel more like FO one or two, this mod would just make more sense. Why would a bunch of desert scorpions not be a brownish yellow, but instead a bluish grey? It made sense in three, sure, but in NV?

Such a small little detail that adds so very much.

A thank you to graypill for this great mod. There was always something off about the colouring of the vanilla scorpions. It bothered me that the bark scorpions matched their environment but the larger and giant did not. This beautiful mod fixes that perfectly. However, it will make the scorpions harder to detect in the day time, but that is the price you pay for greater immersion.
    Happy trails all.
