I realize it's a tall order, but can we have a simplified version that adds in the crafting recipes for gear but not the need to micromanage crafting resources like "wood", "plastic", "acid", and so on? It's all very confusing.
As of the time of this writing initial release 5 recipes, now 50, past week. The goal is 1000 recipes . It will do just what your talking about, utilizing what is in the wasteland, base game, vanilla junk. I'm quickly realizing that covering just junk might rack up only 100-300 recipes from both games and their DLC's so there's a high chance I'm going to be desperate to consider more options such as you said, break down weapons and armor, make other ammos, or artificially... straight up make expansion patches for other mods such as 'frontier' in order to meet the goal of 1000. Scrap-it creates existing junk in the base game (example scrap metal, scrap electronics). This junk then can be used to 'trade into Walter' and other vanilla quests, or craft something from them.
In direct thought to Fallout 76 crafting, its really cool that someone decided to make a crafting system based on Fallout 4's (what I'm familiar with) wood, metal, etc, other base materials. What makes this system difficult is the number of additional new material items. Fallout 3/New Vegas use a menu system that makes the user perform more mouse scrolls and clicking to execute the same simple task as one would with less effort in the newer games. Without specifics, the best approach is either someone from Stewies Tweaks mod further expands modern user interface for crafting (more auto-handling of materials), or continue to make mods that utilize what is already in the base game.
could you update this mod so the sorting is better? I go to a campfire and I breakdown bullets? Also in the breakdown tab it places everything there (ammo, weapons, armour, etc). There is no tab for armour so all the craftable armour is in the category of "AID".
Please fix the sorting. If you won't do it how can I fix it myself?
Open the mod esp/esm file with FNVEdit, go to recipe category, right-click, select New Record option, give it a name, crafting menu category, and ingredients for input/output. Look at the original recipes entries to understand, it's actually easy to make :)
What if, instead of "Schematics," we all use the default "Recipes" system, expanded with GRA DLC?
P.S.: I'm having a kind of issue, and only happened since I've installed this. Happens that after crafting something (and in this case, scrapping something), the crafting menu closes after a single action. Is there any configuration to correct that? I don't wanna have to open the crafting menu each time I wanna create/uncreate something :(
It would be nice, if equipped/hotkey weapons didn't appear in the breakdown menu so you don't accidently dismantle your items, kinda like how Stewietweaks hides them from vendor menus
Honestly not sure if I've missed something is there a good way to get scrap wood?
76 has it in abundance from fallen trees, make's it difficult to cook things without a good supply of wood in NV/TTW. Be great if you could craft an axe that lets you use the tree's to get wood cut offs that weigh heaps but can be refined into wood scrap.
A simpler way might be to remove the wood requirement for cooking food.
Wood should be able to be found in many places. You can get it from things like clipboards, pencils, and weapons with wooden grips. Allowing collection of wood from logs laying about isn't a bad idea though. I may look into adding that.
Loving this mod so far! I thought the crafting system in F76 was excellent, too bad about the silly storage limitations. Anyways, I have another mod that allows me to repair a lot of my gear using scrap metal, and I was wondering if there were any plans to incorporate converting steel scrap to scrap metal. I think this would be an incredibly worthwhile addition, and I would love to see it. Thanks for your contribution to the community! :)
Glad you're enjoying the mod! Unfortunately I don't plan on adding a convert steel scrap into scrap metal recipe at this time. This is mainly due to a recipe introduced in Honest Hearts that allows you to convert scrap metal into lead. I want to avoid a situation where the player can directly convert steel into lead.
