Excuse me, Mod Author, but I can't seem to wrap my head around the equation. Always had trouble with Maths at school, so my apologies. But how do I make it so that the sneak penalty at light's absence is at -20 instead of just -4?
So basically my goal is +20 sneak while in darkness vs -20 sneak while out of it, or the inverse is fine as well (-20, +5).
EDIT: Sticky-ing this so others can have a quickly accessible explanation of how to configure the INI
Gotcha, should be simple enough.
So the PenaltyPercent is easy. Whatever percentage of the modifier you want to be in the negative goes there. If you want +20/-20, then you want 50 percent negative and 50 percent positive. So your penalty percent ought to be 50.
Then the Divider handles how powerful the effect ends up being. 100 divided by this number. Therefore, the lower the number, the more powerful the effect. If you were to divide 100 by 1 (and keep penalty percent at 50), for example, the effect would range from -50 to +50 -- 100 different potential sneak modifiers (not including +0, I guess).
You, on the other hand are looking for a modifier with 40 (not including 0) different potential results...
So, to get the proper divider, you need to solve for 'x' in this equation: 100/X = 40
FIrst, multiply both sides by 'x' to get x out of the denominator (bottom of a fraction/division): 100 = 40*X
Then divide both sides by 40 to isolate 'x,' and you get: 2.5 = X
So you want a divider of '2.5' and a penalty percent of '50,' to get a range from -20 to +20.
It is worth noting however that light values of 100 are common whereas light values of 0 are either extremely rare or non-existent (FNV has no pitch black spots in the mods I recommended, as far as I know), so this seemingly even balance will end up a bit in favor of the 'penalty' over the 'bonus.' If that's alright with you, go straight ahead! Otherwise, consider shrinking the penalty percent to '45,' which would give you a range from -18 to +22.
Thank you so much for the concise but detailed explanation, Mod Author. I can finally wrap my head around the equation, given time of course. Hahaha! But anyway, more power to you. Cheers!
Criminally underrated mod, Thief game enjoyers are eating good. The icing on top would be to replace the sneak UI element with a dynamic light bar to represent your total sneak bonus or penalty rather than a flat number
It was driving me CRAZY something was showing my sneak mod at 34 on doc mitchel. Took me ages to remember this mod since it is on my mod list for quite some time. Found it. Well... I can live with the sneak skill showing higher numbers sometimes...
How does this mod perform alongside Cover Based Stealth Mechanics and Realistic Stealth Overhaul ESPless? I know all 3 are compatible but not sure how much they "compliment" each other, so to speak...
For anyone wondering, I've been using this on TTW in the capital and Mojave for 150+hrs, it seems to work pretty flawlessly. I don't play with any HUD enabled at all so I can't really speak for the sneak indicator but overall hiding in the shadows and dark rooms does seem to be better for detection.
FYI: Some of the lighting in the game is still weird though, I have noticed there are instances where it is pitch black, I can't see the floor it's that dark, so I have a sneak modifier of +18. But then I go somewhere like the Super-Duper Mart where there are big overhead lights and you can clearly see the color of an NPC's eyes from 50 meters it's so bright, and yet I get a sneak modifier of +16. That's just Fallout being Fallout ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Would this mod be cross compatible for fallout 3 with the FOSE Extension? Ive downloaded mods that change lighting, especially at night. Tired of getting gunned down from enemies i cant see.
That's a good question! I haven't looked into how that mod functions specifically (haven't played New Vegas this month), but my gut instinct is 'probably, yah.'
Should be very simple to test. Check the sneak modifier value you get in the vanilla game in a particular spot in a room, then apply SimpleILO. See if the modifier changes (obviously you'll want to choose a spot that SimpleILO substantially darkens to make the difference obvious).
Let me know if it works out, if you get around to it!
I know this mod is almost a year old at this point, but I had an idea. I love the functionality of dynamic stealth based on how much light is on the player, but I would propose lowering NPC perception as opposed to a sneak modifier. 1. This would eliminate the bug where the modified sneak skill is applied on level ups and for skill checks, and 2. It would benefit players who have a sneak skill too high to make use of the sneak bonus whether they're max level or are using a stealth boy etc. I'm not experienced enough at modding to make this happen myself but I'd be down to try if you'd be willing to help or anything you'd be willing to let me use. Great mod!
Oh my bad I totally missed the last part of your comment. Uhh, I honestly don't think I have the GECK stuff downloaded anymore otherwise I'd send you whatever I could, but if you're able to make use of the files on here or anything, you are more than welcome to improve them/the ideas however you want! I barely had the ability to make this (only mod I've ever done and I was quite assisted), so I wouldn't be able to help much, but if you figured it out that would be really cool!
I really loved this mod very much, but for some reason not only my Sneak stat go down but my Agility as a whole also reduced when in the light or outside in daytime. Is it actually part of the mod or I'm just having conflict from the other mod I have.
Nvm, I found the reason when I check my Apparel. It seems that one of the mod I'm using updated the setting for the bag I use.
