A thousand times yes. That speech check always seemed gratuitously high for a dlc that you have no reason to do in the lategame. That it ties in with the best part of HH is just gravy.
I'd second the notion of making this optional with the original speech check...it feels more like Obsidian to have both.
I like this a lot! I feel like this game's over-reliance on Speech checks is one of its few weaknesses. On the other hand, I'm confused. How does the note serve to convince Joshua not to kill Salt-Upon-Wounds? I read it, but I still don't understand.
It's a little bit... loose, admittedly. The gist of what I was going for is that a player who read all of the Survivalist's notes would have a larger understanding of the Sorrows' culture, and be able to "predict" what might happen to them if Graham killed Salt, being then given the option to convince Graham using that knowledge.
If I make another version of this, one with original text, I'll try and see how much of that idea I can include without losing the Vanilla-feel too much.
Great idea! But why not leave both options to the player's choice? I suggest that you make a version where the presence of the note will give the player opportunity to skip the skill check instead of completely removing it. So that a new answer option appears in the dialogue, leading to the same result as the speech check option, but not replacing it. The speech requirement can even be increased to 100.
This, I need this so much omg. The lore notes weren't really taken into account when making the final ending for HH so it ended up feeling out of place and disconnected, this links it up and makes it fit. Thank you.
"Fight with righteous anger... I leave you Zion... to atone for the sorrows... of this world... of all the sorrows visited on his fellow man..." -The Father- I guess it takes a bit of exploring to get there but it seems more appropriate than a very difficult speech check, like looking for an overseers passkey just to escape a vault rather than hacking the terminal. Gets you up to speed on Zion's lore and the Sorrows' backstory, Too, for you lore-hunters out there.
The Survivalist logs are some of if not the best parts of Honest Hearts and I've always wondered why they didn't play a bigger role in the DLC since they have such relevance to the plot, seeing a mod finally give them an impact on the story is always a good thing in my book!
