Many thanks to stolensmokeagain and Parlexcent at nexusmods.com for suggesting and encouraging me to continue developing this mod.
Many thanks to AVeryUncreativeUsername at nexusmods.com for his legendary Truce series, which is a great inspiration for me.
Description:
In the vanilla game, if you want to experience every effort developers put into the game, you have to do the stuff you hate and kill the characters you love. This mod is the first of several planned mods to solve the dilemmas. To be specific, it provides a choice to skip the "eliminate Mr. House" part and continue Caesar's quest.
Caesar is a tyrant but not an idiot. If you point out that killing Mr. House is a dumb decision, Caesar would see sense. But with his complacency and pretension, he is very unlikely to admit the mistake candidly. The chances are that in order to save face, he pretends it's a deliberate mistake made to test whether you have the ability to correct him.
Back to this mod itself, I must admit that the dialogue I wrote may seem awkward and unidiomatic because not a native English speaker myself. If you can polish it, please comment below or PM me. Besides, in this beta edition, voice-acting is absent. Again, if you sound like Caesar, don't hesitate to contact me. Any help will be appreciated, and you will be credited in the next edition.
What's new in version 2:
Expanded dialogue with Caesar, making him more cunning and dangerous.
Warning: In this version, you must sacrifice your platinum chip to succeed in the dissuasion. So I suggest you help Mr House upgrade the Securitons before giving Caesar the advice.
To-do list:
1. add an option to complete the dissuasion without sacrificing the platinum chip;
2. add some options for failing the dissuasion;
3. refine the wording;
4. add AI voice acting (after dialogue is finalised)
Dialogue in version 2:
Courier: Disposing of Mr House at this stage is not in the best interests of your Legion.
Caesar: What is the meaning of this? How dare you question Caesar's orders! Now, think carefully before you speak, for these may be your last words.
Courier: Mr House is demoralizing NCR by indulging their vices. If he is killed, NCR won't take long to realize what happened. They could take over the ownerless New Vegas, ban their troops from gambling, or even worse, use Mr House's technology against you.
Caesar: You know what? I am starting to wonder what you were doing down in that bunker. If you've been following my orders, it's only a matter of time before Mr House finds you out. Keeping him alive would make life much more difficult for you. Unless... you have ABUSED my trust. What is your explanation?
Courier: <Lie> There's no way Mr House could know what happened in the bunker, which, as far as I can see, shows no sign of remote control or surveillance. Besides, Mr House is too cowardly to retaliate against Benny for stealing his Platinum Chip and scheming-
Caesar: [Caesar interrupts you.] Wait a moment. You reminded me about the Chip. There's no point in you keeping it any longer. Nor is it of any further use to me. So hand it over.
Courier: <Give Caesar the platinum chip.>
Caesar: [Caesar takes the platinum chip and then, without hesitation, uses his Displacer Glove to crush it.] You see? This is how I handle something useless. Fortunately for you, considering that Mr House would never allow you to give away his favourite chip, the possibility of you being his spy can be ruled out. So at least I've made sure that your "advice" wasn't actually an intercession for Mr House. Well, let's get down to business. You're right, killing Mr House is a dumb idea. It comes from one of my advisors, and I have him killed for his thoughtless and imcompetence. The Legion must be vigilant in our actions to ensure that we do not provoke a greater enemy. I'll deal with Mr House one day, but right now? Mr House is closer to an ally than foe, considering how much he is making a show of NCR in the Mojave. The order I just gave you is a test, to see if you have enough brains and guts to correct me. And this is where you earn your real missions.
Old dialogue in version 1:
Courier: Deposing Mr. House at this stage may not be conducive to your legion.
Caesar: [?] How dare you question Caesar's order,my order! Now, give me a good reason why you said that. Think carefully before you speak because these may be the last words you say for your life.
Courier: Mr. House is demoralizing NCR by indulgingtheir vices. If he is killed, it won't take long for NCR to realize what
happened. They could take over New Vegas, prohibit hedonic consumption, or even worse, use his technology against you.
Caesar: [SUCCEEDED] Tibi congratulor! You pass mytest. I was deliberately misdirecting you to test whether you had enough brain and guts to correct me. Since you have proved yourself, I can assign you some real work now. A tribe named the Boomers of Nellis Air Force Base is so reclusive that it lobs artillery shells at anyone who comes near their settlement……
