Have a problem with the file size, level of compression, or texture format? Run the mod through a tool such as Cathedral Assets Optimizer or Octagon to tweak the textures to your liking. Please be aware that at certain resolutions and texture formats quality can and will be degraded.
This issue is happening with me right now. I'm going to skim through some of my ui mods and see if there's a reason.
Edit: That was quick not sure if its the same issue as you but it sure as hell helped me, VUI+ defaults to the 1024 version for some reason. Searched for 1024 in map_menu.xml and replaced it with 2048, fixed the issue.
Edit 2: Well it came back, disabled the 'Buddy Chicken' mod and it fixed it. Why? I have no clue!
Thank you, kind soul. The 4k resolution maps were a little too much for my laptop to handle so sometimes it took up to 6 seconds for the map to open. this one works nearly instantly. Looks pretty clear too.
Really love the mod Unfortunately I am getting crashes around 30% of the time when I load the World Map on Pipboy Could be my old I5 9400h and 1660ti not being up to the mark
Would it be possible to make a less performance intensive version of this mod?
NVTF and 4gb Patcher are heavily recommended when using any texture mods. 4K Is necessary for the maps otherwise the quality and readability is highly degraded. That being said, I have tested (and actively play with) this on both a vanilla and modded game without issues, so I have no doubt you're running out of texture memory. Either downscale it with a software of your choice or utilize the community tools I recommended. 4gb Patcher isn't necessary if you're on GOG.
In vanilla it's a remnant from development. The maps were made taking screenshots of the worldspace in the editor. Therfore markers are visible, and by extension their radius circle.
Is there any chance you could provide a patch for Nova Arizona? It adds a whole bunch of content to the east of the Colorado River and changes the map a bit to accommodate. If not then no worries at all.
+1 This mod, makes the map lookable and with the Nova Arizona map add-on it goes back to the default map. Which is quite ugly. A patch would really be great!
I like this mod and think your maps have the best style of the mods available, however I wish the NV map had topography like the other maps, personally I find the Big MT map to be far and away the best one and wish the main NV map was done in a similar fashion.
Happy with it the way it is either way, I'm guessing creating topography from scratch would be extremely laborious and balancing what landmarks/details to include with the different map scales might be trickier than I realize.
Would be really nice to see this get an update. While certainly not wasted effort, this seems to value accuracy to the vanilla maps above all else, which can easily cause problems when the vanilla maps are not accurate to whats actually in vanilla. Does raise a question of why this should be used over vanilla if its not gonna actually improve the maps in terms of gameplay? Obviously going through every single worldspace in the game and accurately drawing them out would be incredibly difficult and time consuming, but there are certainly some real egregious examples that can be fixed, such as the bridges next to the Anchorage Memorial, both real and fake, not being properly depicted.
This will not be updated any further and any inaccuracies present are also there in vanilla. As you said, the only other way to achieve absolute 1:1 accuracy is by going over every cell and *attempting* to capture the data exactly - a nearly impossible task, which is why the vanilla maps have minor inaccuracies. Despite this many scaling issues have actually been ammended from vanilla in this mod.
