Seems JIP CCC is bugging out at my end. It's when you collectively command everyone to do a task like wait, follow, go ranged or go melee. When any vanilla companion is commanded, everyone else except Maria follows orders. When Maria is commanded, nothing happens, nobody follows orders, even Maria.
weird, never had this issue, maybe jip adds that faction automatically? anyway, you can fix that by going in the "factions" tab on geck and adding the "donttazemebro" faction to her if she doesn't have it for whatever reason.

To add to this. Maybe making Heather companion with Douglas the detective as her companion (same system as how Sunny Smiles have Sheyenne as her own) If Heather gone, Douglas left too. Something like that.
