"In one episode of the TV series, when visiting Vault 4, a blackboard shows the timeline of Shady Sands. This timeline reveals that The Fall of Shady Sands started in 2277 with an arrow showing the event resulted in a later nuclear blast. Bizarrely, fans have taken this to mean that Shady Sands was destroyed in 2277 despite the fact the capitol still exists in Fallout New Vegas in 2281. At no point in the show is it specifically stated that Shady Sands was blown up prior to 2281. In fact, no specific date has been given for the capital city’s devastation. However, with context clues, we can assume it occurred sometime around 2281"
The Fall of Shady Sands is probably referencing the Pyrrhic victory at the First Battle of Hoover Dam in 2277 and the serious decline and overextension thereafter that is talked about in New Vegas.
if you'd seen the episode yourself, you'd know that right next to the date there is an arrow pointing to a mushroom cloud, the mushroom cloud being the one thing on the chalkboard that is not dated. They didn't realize what they had done and now journos are running a gaslighting campaign, just your standard hollywood bs
They literally play the Fallout NV Title Screen Theme during that scene, meaning they were trying to call attention to it's connection to New Vegas. What happened in 2277 that's directly connected to New Vegas? The first battle of Hoover Dam! Why would they call back to New Vegas if were retconning it? Or label 2277 as "Downfall" instead of "Destruction"? It was nuked! It's a crater! There couldn't have been a downfall!
It's understandable that people got confused. They put a specific date on "the fall" which is a process that takes place over time. But they didn't put a date on the bomb being dropped, which is a one time thing that DID have a specific date. I could see how someone would think that arrow was an annotation indicating what the fall was.
lol what? it wasn't even the main theme of FNV, but main theme of Fallout 4. Are you def or something? The fact they plyed Fallout 4 theme instead of FNV one just give me more reason think that Bethesda and Todd are actually hate Fallout New Vegas and wanna wipe out everything
(*A missile nicknamed "El Toddster" with a picture of todd attached with ducktape flies towards the NCR and Mojave*)
El Toddster says: "Who's laughing now, fanboys?!?! Obsidian?!?! Who's laughing now?!?! (*makes a shooting handsign with fingers*) Say hello to my little friend!" (*Crazed cackling is heard in the distance, both for a supposed "vengeance" at those fans who'd "dare" mock his todd-nifigance and those that in all reality, made him cry inside due to making his own games a laughing stock.*)
Why is this even a debate? Obviously it was dumb that they couldn't slap a year on the nuke but it's clearly saying that Shady Sands "fell" in 2277 and was nuked later. Comparing Maximus's apparent ages in 2296 and the flashbacks I don't think they're portraying a 19 year progression, but you can debate that I guess. Regardless, New Vegas clearly illustrates that the NCR has BEEN overextended and in a serious state of decline. There's no retcon needed to say 19 years later, after ~15 years of living without the NCR, people from a vault see Shady Sands to have "fallen" out of power and importance in 2277.

Not a nuke.
