Please be aware that we cannot support assisting in getting close enough to capture creatures as pets, especially real sandworms and flyers. These are the two most difficult and time consuming creatures to get in game. Can take hours, especially if you don't do it often, like me.
The mod only adds the pet interaction button to the various "creatures" that don't have them normally, but everything else is vanilla. Some may be missing other code or have odd behaviors, as they weren't meant to be made pets by Hello Games. Most work well, but there are some that just don't work right, which can change over time as HG adds and removes code for them.
There is a community at the NMS Creative and Sharing Hub Discord (https://discord.gg/9rKNAgVcKV), with an entire area for sharing pets and several people who specialize in and can share tips for capturing these. :)
Thank you so much for the update, it's amazing. Although for some reason I can't collect the induced eggs. I have to get the mod for that, so I can't actually have fish or bird eggs because when I disable the mod, the option for them disappears. What could it be?
I personally don't do the egg thing. Probably linked to the fact the creatures have the pet code in their entity file. If the mod is removed, then you revert back to vanilla files, without that code in there.
Maybe some other players who deal with eggs can chime in.
People really need to shut up in these comments. The mod will be fixed when it's fixed, commenting over and over asking when it'll be ready serves 0 purpose. Just check files. When the date uploaded is no longer October 2024, the mod is fixed. Until then, just be patient.
Amen! Babscoole is volunteering their time and not even accepting donations for it. I'll patiently wait for the update. Meanwhile, save the creature you want to capture in your Wonders library so you can find it again.
FYI, I began updating Companion Pet a short while ago. Lua script is now fixed. Now working on the lengthy and tedious part, EXMLing the ~100 files. No shortcut and no quick and easy. Just editing down, one by one, until finished.
3.5 hours later, done and uploaded. Enjoy. Feel free to support each others questions, onto the next nightmare mod update (I saved the worst ones for last).
I came across a strange creature when I was doing expedition 17. It was some small creature made of flowers that growled. I adopted the pet but, when the expedition was complete, I could no longer go back to the planet to get him. Do you know what category of creature that was? I will try and rebuild him with one of the pet generators.
Growled, might be a PLANTCAT. As I recall, there's three major creature types that have a plant variant. Size not so helpful, as most creature types have a wide variance in size. If it seemed a cat-ish shape, that would be it. The growling indicates a predator, but can't say that's definitive.
All you need to do is look at the Last Updated date. Any mod prior to 29 Jan 2025 is definitely not working. Many from between 29 Jan 2025-3 Mar 2025 now need to be redone due to the new Public build released on 4 March 2025. I'm currently working on updating my mods. If you want to incur a several day delay on that for me to add a note to 100-something mod pages....what to you may seem a simple things is in reality a MULTI hour time sink which takes away from my available time to update mods.
