Better Lasagna Biome Generation 3

v3.11m mod compatibility update: See stickied comment in posts tab.

Intro:
The largest biome mod ever made. More than 150,000 total flora sets + over 8,000 unique biomes. This mod's goal: extreme variety and planetary discovery with a healthy dose of chaos/fun.

Mod philosophy:
To find a balance between formulaic planet generation and chaos. Expect planets to feel alive, extreme, weird, unpredictable, but still playable (mostly).

Note:
  • I've tried to tune performance without sacrificing variety, but the scale of this mod means you'll still encounter plants which tank FPS or crashes your game.
  • If you find a planet which causes low fps on descent, just fly off and go to a new planet-- there's thousands of 'em.
  • Protip: Try not to end your session on a high-density planet. Some of them don't reload nicely. If you have trouble reloading your game, remove the 'SPAWNER' mod, reload, move planets, exit, re-add 'SPAWNER.'

How is this different from Lasagna 2?
  • Lasagna 2 mixed random smaller biome elements together on each planet. This mod pulls from massive pools of full, standalone biomes.
  • Because I'm not stacking multiple dense biomes together, I can push density without breaking the engine (usually).
  • That said, this mod still retains some parts of Lasagna 2, specifically on Gas and all Weird/Exotic sub-biomes.
  • On Weird/Exotic planets, you'll find my custom biomes (with custom models), which includes: cities, palm trees, oak trees, alien flora, and much more.
  • You will also find biomes from Arcane Oddities and Lasagna 2 grass/ground detail on these planets.
  • On Gas planets, you can find biomes from my Lasagna Highlights mod.
  • You can also find cave and underwater biomes (and deep water).
  • Biomes are grouped based on sub-biome. So you have a higher chance of finding lush trees on lush planets (paradise, overgrown, etc).
  • Random biomes may also spawn on mountain terrain and beach terrain. I've fixed the objects disappearing bug so I can go back to my favorite form of multi-biome generation. :)
  • Thanks to everyone who's supported and offered feedback over the years.

More info:
  • Using my program, Plumgen, I rebuilt biomes using a huge library of assets-- including nearly every flora/object set I've made across my past mods (via. Lasagna Highlights).
  • I used all of these flora/object sets (plus vanilla attributes and other misc. custom sets) to create controlled randomness, e.g. by mixing flora and other objects using certain rules based on draw distance, density, etc.
  • My goal was to group similar props together (e.g. lush trees), but not at the expense of overall variety.
  • The result: planets that can be visually coherent/immersive or extreme/fun, all based on hand-made "templates" and guidelines.

This mod includes flora sets from:
  • Lasagna Biome Generation (all versions)
  • Shaidak's Generation
  • Lasagna Highlights
  • And basically every other mod I've made

Mod descriptions:

  • Planets Caves - 60 extra cave biomes
  • Planets Underwater - Over 100 extra underwater biomes

  • Planets Highlights - Over 200 hand-made biomes (only on Gas Giants)
  • Planets Oddities - Rare props (only on Exotic/Weird planets)

  • Globals QuickLoading - Changes logos on load to improve loading times
  • Jetpack - Subtle improvements to jetpack lift, refill, etc
  • Large Creatures - From 1x to up to 4x larger creatures. Laggy/awkward creatures = smaller scale, but still big. Creatures scale with water depth. Deeper waters = even larger creatures
  • Large Crystals - Giant E3-style crystals

-OTHER MISC-
  • fly ship underwater - Let's you fly your ship underwater (can only land underwater if you build a landing pad)
  • walk underwater - Disables swimming, so you walk normally underwater

Performance:
    1. Lower in-game "Planet Quality" settings for much better performance.
    2. Dense forests heavily impact performance, set shadows to lowest setting in these areas for a 15-20% performance gain.
    3. If low FPS planet-side, remove 'Planets Caves' folder from MODS. If low FPS underwater, remove 'Planets Underwater.'
    4. If on an older PC, remove 'Globals FastFade.'
    5. 'Giant Creatures' can rarely cause lag (depending on the creature) due to increased creature spawn radius.

How to install:
  • Note: Use 7-Zip or WinRAR to extract the files instead of the default Windows unzip tool.
  • v3.2 update: If you crash on load, remove 300 (or more) biomes (MBINs and MXMLs) from '+Lsgn3 Planets Lasagna 3.2'. It doesn't matter which ones. If the issue persists, move to a space station without mods first. I didn't notice this when testing, but apparently this is an issue for some people.

How to make your own changes + mod compatibility info:
  • See readme for how to modify this mod.
  • See stickied comment in posts tab (v3.11 update) for mod compatibility.

Credits:
  • Giant Creatures makes use of draw distance changes from InsaneRuffles's View Distance Increase mod.
  • Some biomes make use of placements/objects from Shaidak's Generation.
  • trevix for permission to use multi-biome code: Parallel Universe.
  • Some mods made using AMUMSS by Mjjstral aka MetaIdea and Wbertro aka TheBossBoy. Big thanks to Mjjstral for the original LUA scripts.
  • Monkeyman192's MBINCompiler and NMSDK to do many things, including adding in custom models.
  • WinderTP for walking me through Blender/NMSDK/and many, many EXMLs in order to add in models, material flags, etc.
