Does anyone know if there is a fix for the construction set? Specifically when it crashes when trying to make dialogue for a quest. Example: go to character tab, press quests and make a new quest then go to the topics tab and make new greeting then in smaller box to right, right click and say new (that is when it crashes). I have the latest version also. I have also noticed another crash when you try to edit npc faces.
I switched over to Construction Set Extender since then and have used that exclusively which solved my CS crash problems. Unfortunately, no I did not find an answer for Bethesda's vanilla editor.
Judging by the date I wrote this comment, I was probably blissfully unaware of the larger bug-filled nature behind the editor software that Bethesda makes and should have known there wasn't going to be an answer or a fix lol
Unfortunately the Extender version does exactly the same thing. It outputs unusable corrupted esp files even with making any minor change such as trying to change a character's hair with just oblivon.esm selected as master and saving as edit.esp. The edit.esp just crashes out when tryng to preview the character.

Do not know of any current fix. I think is is some sort of conflict with Windows 10. Do not know if it occurs with Windows 11. The CSE works with Windows 10; it has a lot of requirements to install.
You might try running the CS in Compatibility mode, Windows XP or Windows 7, but someone else says they tired that and it did not work
It's no wonder Oblivion came out so half assed. This construction set is a nightmare to work with. It's not impossible by any means, but it is the opposite of efficiency.
When I select Load Master / Plugin Files, there is a button at the bottom under Selection and Set as Active File named Set as Startup File. What does this do, and how can I reverse it? I accidentally hit it instead of Set as Active File, and now plugins are highlighted. any help is appreciated.
not sure what your questions is: Cannot find an NPC's editorID and FormID in the object window? do not know how to find an NPC's refID in world? cannot find an NPC (reference) in game? do not know how to place a NPC from the object window into the game?
i mean like when i load the set my player wont show up in the set i wanna add a wife to my player and my player or my id not showing up how do i find my id or player
The player character's: editorID is Player formID is 00000007 name (in the CS, you of course change this when staring your game) is Bendu Olo Race (again you change this at start game) is Imperial class (before you change it during the tutorial) is CharacterGen Class
Those changes (like all in game changes, such as killing an NPC) are carried in your saves line. They have no effect on the data inside the construction set; it stays the same, in its initial conditions.
Just installed on a new GOG GOTY installation, Windows 10 pro, outside program files, and the CS crashes when ever it tries to load an image in the FACE or FACE ADVANCED tab for an NPC. Never had a problem with it on my old Windows XP installation.

Race (again you change this at start game) is Imperial

RefID in game is Player
The Editor used to work and now it crashes when it loads FaceGen.
maybe try to run on a Win 7 or Win XP compatibility mode.
