FYI if you have the steam version of Morrowind or oblivion, simply opening steam in big picture mode, manage game options and controller configuration, you can get controllers to work for both, believe me, I just tried both games and was pleasantly surprised it worked.
I followed this advice and I think I selected the default option but when I then load oblivion I expect the controller to work to start the game but no movement. Is there something I am missing? Ok got it working by selecting XBOX controller support then unplugging my controller and re-plugging. Then Steam recognized it. You then have to start oblivion with with the mouse to get to the menu where you select new game. At that point controller worked. Thanks for the great idea.
I haven't tested this yet, but props to you if this works, I am working on downloading mods right now, but believe me I will test this ASAP.
EDIT: I have messed with this, and nothing I do seems to work, I launch BIg Picture mode, then I minimize it to launch Oblivion from Mod Organizer 2. I am thinking this is the issue though.
This CAN work. The focus is on CAN, as Big Picture Mode is a broken hunk of crap that rarely every functions on the rare occasion you aren't trying to shew it off like your friends "overly friendly" dachshund with a crush on your left foot.
Launch Steam (In normal mode) Settings > In-Game - Enable the Big Picture Overlay when using a Steam input enabled controller from the desktop. [Toggle the above option to "on" by checking it]
You will need to launch BPM to tell steam to recognize the controller type (unless it's a 36o maybe? I use ps4) I think you need to pick a preset for each game through BPM the first time you launch it. Maybe, some games don't seem to need to? You shouldn't have to launch it anymore to use it after setting up for the first time.
Make sure to have BGM set NOT to open on launch. You don't actually need it open while playing to use this!
This was probably from a long while ago but thanks for this I've been putting off playing oblivion for literally a month because I couldn't get this to work

*sigh*
I tried this, setting up RPMGBP first, then authorizing the overwrite of IHGMIUG. It works great except it launches the Mass Effect 2 game settings in Task Manager instead of Oblivion. Possibly I should have updated NYKGG?
Note, I am using the UOMUCNYFTURDFGVJHJNLK mod in place of TSTRDVYTBUVIBUMG, if that matters. BP/GM.
Below is my own little personal guide for controllers on steam. I have not used this mod or any other mod to assist with this besides unconfirmed suspicions that Enhanced camera and Walkblessed OBSE Help create a smoother experience! and hopefully someone lets me know if it is truly needed or not!
Steam- Settings- in-game- activate controllers big picture overlay- then- go to controller tab. Click general controller settings. Activate Xbox configuration support- click on auto detected controller at the bottom (preferably Xbox one wired for my experience, I have not tried 360 or playstation and doubt it would work for playstation at all.)- Click Identify- Then calibrate and go through that process using the auto calibrated analogue stick setting. Your Shift tab steam overlay will be all mucked up. But doing this made my Xbox One controller work for me.
Now here is the best part. Go into the games ordinary pause menu. Then follow these steps. -Options -Controls- Adjust the sensitivity how you like for the mouse sensitivity bar. I used the two side arrows and it is two ticks to the right from the very left side. feels super comfy. Then -Controls again at the bottom left of the controls panel you are in. -Make sure you see "Keyboard" at the top of the selections for the controls menu. Which ever Xbox button you hit as an input after having clicked on something (Ie, activate, jump, ready weapon) will automatically translate into the matching keyboard button. I believe A is Enter, left bumper is Z (I always use this for grab), and crap like that. If anyone has any issues, I will post my control scheme down below in my comment so you can manually change them yourself so they match your controller. But you should just be able to us the controller for at least inputs on the control panel =) Both attack and defend should be perspectively Right trigger, and left trigger anyway. So no worries for anyone there!
If you want to run on a diagonal, you may need the mods. Enhanced Camera- and - Walkblessed OBSE. Keep in mind I don't know this for sure! and also keep in mind that you will need to have caps-lock enabled to run like normal, otherwise you will be walking slowly forever! once it is enabled you can use left stick to move at a variable level, pushing lightly goes slow, and pushing hard goes fast! Alt-Tabbing even with a fix mod will probably break the controller system until you reboot the game! It is also worth noting, that the favorites menu is buggy, so its best to use the in menu spell selection. While in the inventory menu, to swipe from tab to tab, For character, quests, and inventory. Push down, or up on the left analogue stick, then swipe along the corner of the controller to either or direction (left or right) and the tab will switch accordingly! You can also use the right analogue stick to move the cursor, Then right trigger to select things with the cursor if u so choose. But it is a bit fast. I do not know how the map will function yet as I had just discovered all of this within a few moments of posting. So hopefully I am not missing anything!
Yeah It didnt work for me. I made sure that the file was in where its supposed to be but to no avail. By activating big picture mode and doing the steam controller registration thingy I got my xbox controller to work but the buttons got all fucked up, but thats a problem with Steam's buggy software.
If, like me, you are looking to play oblivion on your PC with a wired Xbox 360 controller, keep on looking. This mod does not function. Unless I've made some grievous error in the exceedingly simple installation. I am unable to pause the game, navigate ANY menu interface, or use the triggers, I could not even complete the first part of the introduction. I tried this as an alternative to programs like JoyToKey and Xpadder, since they offer functional yet inconvenient experiences, only to find this woefully inadequate.
Have or know of anything better? Any tips or tricks? For some reason im having a really hard time modding Oblivion. I am a noob when it comes to modding but have had great success with modding my Skyrim to hell and back but for some reason i cant seem to do anything with Oblivion. Any advice? The only thing i cant live without is not being able to use a controller properly. I dont necessarily need new weapons and texture upgrades. I can live without those but the controller is really bugging me.
If you download this mod, DO NOT I repeat DO NOT replace the .ini file with the new one provided by the mod. Instead, move the original .ini file to another location where you can retrieve it if the mod doesn't work, other wise you'll have to reinstall the game completely.
OK, a solid 9 and a half hours of esting and I can say without a shadow of a doubt, that this doesn't work. I got some very, very strange problems and I would suggest to everyone to look elsweyr.
Works a treat - cheers! I'd love a key map so I can tweak a few bits like POV and the speed, and remapping the odd button. Any ideas I can follow up? Thanks!
