About this mod
This mod is a massive expansion of the 'Order of the Virtuous Blood" miscellaneous quest. It adds a Vampire Hunter Guild to the game, including associated quests, dungeons, NPC's, items, and voice files. You will begin a quest to 'free the afflicted from a terrible curse'. The Purge begins!

The basic concept for this mod is that you role play as a Vampire Hunter hired out by the Order of the Virtuous Blood. You will gain some cool armor and weapons, take over a base of operations, and be confronted with a variety of situations. I created a running quest log, the Adventures of a Vampire Hunter, that will log your progress and record important information that you can easily refer back to. "Who was that guy that can upgrade my weapons?"
To start the quest, for a new game, start the Order of the Virtuous Blood normally and Roland will give you the opportunity to "Join" the guild after killing Seridur, or if you already have an established game, go talk with Roland in the basement of Seridurs house and select the "Join" topic. If vampire quests, Order of the Virtuous Blood, Azura and Brotherhood Betrayed have already completed , the mod will update the Adventures of a Vampire Hunter log, and Gilen will start you with VH01 Azrael, the Darkhold and Sanctuary.
The genesis for this mod was all the fine mods out there that extend on some aspect of base Oblivion. Since no one had expanded on the miscellaneous quest, Order of the Virtuous Blood, I took it upon myself to expand on it’s basic concept, the hunting and elimination of vampires, and in so doing probably bit off more than I could chew, there are about 17 vampire lairs. I turned the OVB quest into a faction quest, just like the mage, thief, etc. quests in base Oblivion, so there is now a vampire hunter faction, with four levels of rank. Ranks for the Order of Virtuous Blood are: Agent of Blood, Vampire Hunter, Vampire Slayer and lastly, Vampire Destroyer. I tried to incorporate other vampire story lines into this mod by making them entries in the Adventures of a Vampire Hunter log. So the overall quest will not complete until you have completed vampire related quests, i.e. mage, thief and arena.
After a few months of modding I discovered the Nexus and the wealth of content that others had created, ie items, weapons, armor, etc. I then set out to incorporate some cool items into this mod. And again I probably went overboard as the list at the end of this description will attest. I hope the content creators will enjoy seeing their work live on in this mod. There is so much added content that many of the names for NPC's and items are not lore friendly, though some are, I took names from pop culture and some are the same as the content creator named them, primarily weapons. I created four unique groups of vampires and wanted to use some cool gear, so I outfitted each one with content from the Nexus instead of using gear from base Oblivion.
This mod is much more than a dungeon run, killing any vampire that moves. Oh sure there are some of those dungeons, but there is also contact with a renowned horticulturist dabbling in vampiric plant studies, meeting the former Vampire Destroyer, finding a group of vampires who have forsworn human blood for an alchemical variety, as well as, coming to the aid of a comrade afflicted with vampirism. There is a weaponsmith that you can go to and upgrade your Hunter weapons, Liberator, Slayer and Soulstealer, three levels each. There are also elements of intrigue and discovery. If you chose to dungeon run these quests, you could miss some pretty neat stuff. Although it is a continuous quest line it is actually made up of a number of mini-quests, like the other faction quests. There is a clan of vampires whose hierarchy have incorporated Dwemner technology into their weapons and equipment. There is a group of aliens who crash landed in Cyrodill and became afflicted with vampirism. There is a primitive tribe of cannibalistic vampires. There is a vampiric sect of the Dark Brotherhood, the Red Hand, out to eliminate you, and a little more. There are a couple of vampires that you must come across on your own without the help of
the OVB network in order to complete the overall quest.
Bug: I use special wraiths in one of my dungeons. There is an issue with either the mesh for the wraiths or the game engine, where wraith corpses often fall through the floor. If you want to grab all their special dust, though the dust is not needed, you will need the 'tcl' through the floor to get it. I have no way to fix this issue.
I am the collector type of player. I like to collect all manner of things, especially unique items, and even cheat quest items for show in my crib. Because of this, the vampire hunter base has a nice area for displaying items that you will find, the trophy room is entered by activating a painting on the wall. I learned how to use nifscope and gimp so there are a number of unique items, with icons, in the game, which also allowed me to seamlessly integrate content from the Nexus, even creating icons when they were not provided. I learned to script so there are some unique containers, activators, and stuff. I created a number of books, enchantments, potions, etc to add to the vampire atmosphere. I created a number of special effect arrows that you can construct. The Fire Blaster arrow is a lot of fun. There is a ridable wolf that you can acquire if you so desire. As for myself, I would not ride any mount but White Fang. The armors and weapons can be quite powerful but not uber powerful. I also made most of the vampires with level offsets and enchanted items, so combat should be fun and rewarding. I placed random loot skill books in all the dungeons, Sanctuary and Sweetwater. So be on the lookout for skill boosts.
I have done quite a bit of modding to existing vampire lairs, even adding some additional rooms. So any mods that include any of the vampire lairs could potentially conflict with this mod. Any lairs that I did a lot of set dressing for, I created an obstruction preventing you from entering that lair until you start the quest. Other lairs I enable content and disable base Oblivion content, so you can explore them before starting a quest. I created four jumping puzzles that you may or may not recognize. I also played with lighting, example, the sewers that interact with this quest are much darker now, I mean they are underground. Conversations and topics are conditional on this quest line and should not conflict with base oblivion. I tried my hand at voice acting so there is that. For lip sync, maybe another day, there is a lot of dialogue. It only took about 15 years to create this mod, partly because I got sidetracked by Fallout 3 and 4, and Skyrim. Is there even anyone still playing Oblivion IV?
If you are beginning with a new character, there is a new class, the Vampire Hunter, that you can choose. The VH class combines aspects of each specialization with the intent of developing a character with mage/missile/blade/stealth characteristics. The VH class breaks all the rules for creating a custom class. Instead of focusing on one specialization and the two associated attributes, it uses attributes (ex. strength and willpower) from all three specializations (combat, magic, stealth). It also chooses a couple major skills that are slow to advance in but have nice perks at higher levels (ex. alchemy and armorer) as opposed to skills that a player uses often (ex. conjuration and acrobatics). Primary attributes are from different specializations also, rather than from the same specialization. The end product is a well rounded class as opposed to a focused class. A focused class 'focuses' multipliers to skills that correspond to your specialization. By spreading the multipliers to all specializations, you will get more multipliers for a more varied group of attributes. Leveling up may be a little slower, as the focused class maximizes leveling up and attribute multipliers to the primary attributes. But if you use skills like repairing armor and making potions often then you will get nice multipliers in endurance and intelligence both.
Class:
Vampire Hunter
Specialization: Magic.
Primary attributes: agility and willpower.
Major skills are: alchemy, armorer, blade, destruction, illusion, marksman, and restoration.
Why alchemy and armorer for major skills? With alchemy starting at apprentice level, you can make poisons right off the bat. With armorer, to be able to repair enchanted items, you need to be at journeyman level, so at a start value of 25 you are well on your way. Advances in armorer also provide multipliers to endurance, which determines how much health you receive when leveling up. There is no requirement to choose the VH class if it conflicts with your play style and you can play with an established character, but for those who wish a little more immersion and maybe a challenge, it is available.
Vampire Lairs:
Ayleid ruins - Fanacas, Lipsand Tarn, Ninendava, Nornalhorst
Forts - Carmala, Hastrel, Naso, Redman, Redwater, Vlastarus
Mines - Gutted
Caves - Barren, Boreal Stone Cave,Memorial, Redwater Slough
Sewers - Imperial North and Southeast, Bloodworks
Black Garlic Locations from Elainya's grave: NE, below Sweetwater house; SE, just over a big rock; E, up hill above house, moss covered rock, near porch.
Version 1.3
Game was crashing when Harkon archer was getting ready to fire.
Deleted crossbow and replaced with unique bow.
Version 1.2
Corrected the mesh to texture links for 11 weapons and crafted arrow quiver. One quarter of the unique weapons, ugh.
Made Odius T essential as he is needed for the Red Hand quest.
Rebalanced all of the weapon enchantment - charge amounts.
version 1.1
Cleaned the mod again, was noted that it had some dirty edits. I must have did some looking at the lairs prior to uploading.
Added another hard to find skill book Proper Lock Design in the mausoleum area of Ninendava
I recommend my other Oblivion mod, SimCamp, as it has a Bag of Holding you can find as well as levels up a couple of vendors in the Market District so you can sell all that loot you will acquire. Going for a million septims dude!
Enjoy
