Thanks for the Mod, I'm excited to test it out but am a little new to manual modding. I just wanted to know exactly where in the GameUserSetting.ini do I paste my resolution settings, and do I paste :
or the whole thing?: [/Script/Altar.AltarGameUserSetting]bUseVSync=FalsebUseDynamicResolution=FalseResolutionSizeX=1920ResolutionSizeY=1080LastUserConfirmedResolutionSizeX=1920LastUserConfirmedResolutionSizeY=1080WindowPosX=0WindowPosY=0FullscreenMode=1LastConfirmedFullscreenMode=1PreferredFullscreenMode=1Version=5AudioQualityLevel=0LastConfirmedAudioQualityLevel=0FrameRateLimit=0.000000DesiredScreenWidth=960DesiredScreenHeight=540LastUserConfirmedDesiredScreenWidth=960LastUserConfirmedDesiredScreenHeight=540LastRecommendedScreenWidth=-1.000000LastRecommendedScreenHeight=-1.000000LastCPUBenchmarkResult=212.786804LastGPUBenchmarkResult=177.338028LastGPUBenchmarkMultiplier=1.000000bUseHDRDisplayOutput=FalseHDRDisplayOutputNits=1000LastCPUBenchmarkSteps=196.526199LastCPUBenchmarkSteps=223.627213LastGPUBenchmarkSteps=285.633453LastGPUBenchmarkSteps=123.020592LastGPUBenchmarkSteps=197.894394LastGPUBenchmarkSteps=187.450012LastGPUBenchmarkSteps=42.082840LastGPUBenchmarkSteps=180.286942LastGPUBenchmarkSteps=183.315384
Any further explanation on this would be greatly appreciated, and thank you again for this mod.
π Where to paste them: Open the downloaded GameUserSettings.ini file with Notepad. Paste these 4 lines inside the section that starts with:
[/Script/Altar.AltarGameUserSetting] You can place them right below the other lines that begin with bUseVSync= or bUseDynamicResolution=, or anywhere in that section β the order doesnβt matter.
β οΈ Don't paste the whole original block β only those 4 lines related to resolution. After that, save the file and set it to Read-Only again.Let me know if you need any help β happy to guide you through it!
I can't seem to save my resolution in the Ultra Low Config. I have tried doing it from the downloaded file, on my desktop, in a different file. Even in the oblivion game file's and still nothing i don't know whats going on with it as i have never had anything actlike this before, you labels in the "DOCS" (ex.[/Script/Altar.AltarGameUserSetting]) dose not match what you have in your file there is nothing labeled that in there. I might be reading it wrong or something.
You don't need to download the Ultra Low configuration β it uses a slightly different setup and is less effective overall. Please download the Balanced v2 version instead. Full instructions, FAQ, and important notes are available in the DOCS section on the mod page. Sorry for the confusion β I forgot to mention in the description that the instructions in the DOCS section apply only to the Balanced v2 version.
Yes, the mod is designed with lower-end systems like yours in mind. The Balanced v2 version is especially optimized for GPUs with 4GB VRAM, like the RTX 3050 Laptop Edition. It helps reduce memory usage and improve stability, so you should be able to play the game more smoothly. πΈ The βYou donβt have 6GB of VRAMβ error is not critical β you can safely ignore it. Make sure to read the full instructions in the DOCS section on the mod page!
First "optimization" Mod that had noticeable difference for me, Im actually getting near 60 fps in open world and cities now without the insane stuttering and freezing when going through doors. Thanks for the mod.
One question though. I read that you turned off all upscalers, and I assume I cant just turn it back on in the ingame seetings. I looked in the game user settings but I found no obvious way. So how do i turn back on DLSS. I wanna try it out with this, maybe I can eek out a little more fps and get close to locked 60.
Thanks a lot for your kind words β really glad the mod helped reduce stuttering and improve performance! As for DLSS: by default, all upscalers were disabled in the config to ensure maximum compatibility and avoid bugs. To re-enable DLSS manually:1. Temporarily remove the "Read-only" attribute.2. Open GameUserSettings.ini.3. Find the section [/Script/Altar.AltarGameUserSetting].4. Add the following lines inside this section (if not already present): - CurrentSelectedUpscaler=DLSS (or FSR, XeSS) - CurrentSelectedUpscalerQualityMode=1 (0=Performance, 1=Balanced, 2=Quality, 3=Ultra Performance)5. Save the file.6. Set the file back to "Read-only".
π Full instructions and notes are available in the DOCS section on the mod page β make sure to check it out for more tweaks.Let me know how it goes with DLSS enabled!
Amazing, thank you. Was running at around 16-20 FPS at lowest settings and now i'm at just below 60. It's pretty shocking how poorly optimized this remaster is. Considering I run most games on high settings comfortably this is just silly.
Thank you for creating this, it's exactly what I was looking for.
I'm really glad it helped you! π The remaster is indeed quite heavy on performance, and that's exactly why I created this config β to help users get smoother gameplay without unnecessary effects.
I have a decent system but I'm getting horrible slow loading times, scenery is a blocky mess for many seconds every time I enter a new zone. Would these settings help that problem too?
Thank you for the feedback and details! Yes, this configuration can definitely help reduce long loading times and blurry textures when moving between zones.Even with a powerful GPU like the RTX 3070, this remaster often suffers from streaming issues (loading textures and assets), due to engine limitations and poor optimization. My config does the following:
Reduces load on your GPU, CPU, RAM, and even SSD.
Lowers detail in non-critical areas, allowing the game to stream environments faster.
I recommend starting with Balanced v2. Just make sure to read the instructions in the "DOCS" tab on the mod page carefully.
Hi. Usually, everyone changes the file named "Engine.ini". And the file in this mod has the name "Game User Settings.ini", which I do not have. How can this be?
Might it be that if you have not made changes from the default settings that it has not been generated? It's just a record of your setting prefs. I'd try dropping this file in if you have no existing file to replace. I am nobody in particular though so take my advice with a grain of salt.
Most likely not β this mod only modifies the GameUserSettings.ini file, while mods like Engine Tweak usually change Engine.ini, which controls deeper engine-level settings. However, to avoid potential issues (especially if another mod touches the same .ini files), it's recommended to install only one tweak at a time and always make backup copies of all original configuration files before testing.
What I dislike about all these config edits is that they never break down what the actual changes are and why. So this turns off film grain and chromatic aberration, what else?
Thank you for your comment!I understand your concern. Let me explain clearly:The optimizations include:
Disabled Film Grain and Chromatic Aberration for sharper, cleaner image.
Disabled Motion Blur completely for better responsiveness and clarity.
Disabled Lens Flare, Depth of Field, Ambient Occlusion, Volumetric Fog, Eye Adaptation, and other heavy post-processing effects.
Lowered or disabled Bloom depending on the version (Balanced keeps a light Bloom; UltraLow disables it fully).
Tweaked rendering scale (ScreenPercentage) to 85% for Balanced version to reduce GPU load slightly without noticeable loss of quality.
Disabled Dynamic Resolution and limited unnecessary background effects.
All changes are focused on boosting FPS without causing bugs, graphical glitches, or major quality loss (especially in Balanced version). My testing system is:
GPU: GTX 970
CPU: Ryzen 5 2600
RAM: 16GB
I tested every version personally to ensure stable performance improvements.Thank you again for your interest β if you want, I can also provide a full detailed breakdown of every parameter change!

To answer your question:
β You only need to copy and paste these 4 lines from your original GameUserSettings.ini:

Bought the game, but sadly cant play it because of the crashes and "you dont have 6gb of vram" only 4
