1.3 (don't ask me about 1.2 lol) should hopefully have fixed Vortex folder structure.
As for the Order and Cataclysm armor, I dunno what to do about it. I properly loaded it up after a very long CK load, did the edits, and it didn't work. Furthermore, it also edited things (according to xEdit) that I didn't even TOUCH and I can't even save the mod in xEdit (don't worry, that version/attempt is unpublished).
Modding is unsupported by Bethesda and very much in it's early days, so I suspect I will have to simply state these new armors as unsupported until more can be learned about modding this stuff.
Elven and Steel armor works fine to my knowledge, and so does just unarmored horses.
Current known issues to be fixed ASAP:
Vortex Installation being buggy/picky (I think I know how to fix this) I did find where the 'Order' and 'Cataclysm' horse armors are (under a different ESP than the normal horse armor DLC) so I am working on trying to load it up in the CK, though I have to load every single DLC and it's freezing up so unsure if it will ever load properly.
So for now those two horse armors aren't working, but I hope to have it fixed soon (alongside Vortex issue)
Sorry, this might be a dumb question, but is there a way I can figure out if this mod is working without trying to kill the horse? t_t I thought it was active in my game because I wasn't seeing a health bar pop up while Prior Maborel's horse was being attacked, but then it showed a bit later on and the poor fellow was definitely *not* marked essential.
I dunno if there's an easier way to tell that they're unkillable? I don't have any other horse-related mods, so I'm not sure why it isnt working immediately, but Im sure that's user error
Sadly using the console, clicking on the horse and typing 'kill' (save first) is the best way. If it's not working, sounds like it may be conflicting with another mod that modifies horses.
Can't get the mod to work and i have tried all old and new versions. Could it be my save files? I had Horse whistle mod installed but even with all mods removed it does not work. Using old nag.
No i correctly installed manually . I'm guessing it's a conflict it had with horse whistle mod on my save file or something. I will try v1.3 tomorrow and see if that works. If not I will load a fresh game to test.

On a related note, would you consider making a patch for the unicorn as well? Looks like virtuous didn't fix the way it gets hostile or walks back to harcane grove when you dismount. Oh and it can't wear the armor either for some reason.

Possibly! I wasn't sure if they did anything with that or gave us the option not to kill it, a shame since the promo showed the hero riding it, I had hopes. I'll do that quest first just to be sure, and then maybe do something with that.
Same I was so hopeful when I saw the trailer!!! The first thing I did after escaping the sewers was run straight to the unicorn and test if it was fixed. Maaaaybe it's fixed when doing the actual quest idk.
Sadly I've learned this doesn't work with new armor, only the elven and steel (I didn't know there was a forth armor, so I'll add this 'cataclysm' armor to the excluded list too along with Order)
I can't find records of the new Order armor, so it's only steel and elven until I figure that out. I guess it might be hidden within another one of the weird ESPs maybe.
dunno about companions, but there's a lot of NPCs that potentially can get killed due to them walking between towns. Some of them are even skill trainers too. Also, some NPCs that get killed off by the town guards due to them stealing (this was fixed in the unofficial oblivion patch way back in the day) - the main two I've seen being City-Swimmer and Shameer.
