I apologize in advance if this is a noob question...
When installing I renamed the file to "Engine.ini", then navigated to my Documents>My Games>Oblivion Remastered>Saved>Config>Windows folder where I have all the config files for the game and I placed "Engine.ini" in that folder. However, it didn't ask me to overwrite anything and now I have "Engine" and "Engine.ini" both in this folder and I notice no difference when running the game. Do I backup and cut out the original "Engine" file? Or am I suppose to have "Engine" and "Engine.ini" in the same folder?
Hey! No worries, it’s not a noob question at all — you’re doing everything right by being careful! 🔥 Here’s the correct way:
You should backup the original Engine.ini file first (copy it somewhere safe).
Then replace the original Engine.ini with the modified one from the mod.
Ideally, there should be only one file called Engine.ini in the folder — not two.
However, if your system hides file extensions (Windows setting), the file might just show up as Engine without .ini visible. That's normal — as long as the file is actually Engine.ini, even if you only see "Engine", it's fine. If you’re unsure, you can rename the file to just Engine (without .ini manually typed), and Windows will still treat it as Engine.ini internally. Thanks a lot for being careful — that’s the right attitude when installing mods! 🚀
- Find the folder called "Windows" (it's somewhere inside Documents/My Games/Oblivion Remastered folder or other Oblivion Remastered/Saved folder), - There you'll see a bunch of files with the .ini extension, - Find the Engine.ini and back it up somewhere safe, - Download the mod, extract the file and rename it to "Engine.ini" and cut it to the beforementioned location. - Profit? :)
Hey! Thanks a lot for writing this detailed guide! 🔥 You're absolutely right — if players want immediate blood decal changes without manually tweaking their Engine.ini, they can rename and replace it as you described. Of course, backing up the original Engine.ini first is VERY important! 😄 Thanks again for helping others – really appreciate it! 🚀
After today's Oblivion Remastered update, I went from 50-60 fps outdoors in 4K High preset to 35fps on the same preset, because they broke their upscaling (Gamepass version). Using this mod with no other changes brought my FPS from 35 to 52-60 in the same spot, and I can't tell the difference in visuals. Test was done on an RTX 4080 GPU.
Using Lossless Scaling's frame gen on top pushes it back to the 120fps I had it at just yesterday :)
Damn, that’s amazing to hear! Gamepass version really got nerfed with the update – glad the mod helped you recover that sweet framerate! Thanks for testing it on the RTX 4080, that's seriously valuable info 🙌 Stay sharp out there, Champion of Cyrodiil 😎
Thanks for the feedback! 🔥 If you experience occasional stutter, try capping your framerate (e.g. to 144 or 120 FPS) in Nvidia Control Panel or via RivaTuner. It helps reduce microstutters. Also make sure background apps aren't eating resources. Let me know if it improves!
Acer Nitro 5, 4 GB RTX 3050Ti, i5-10300H and 32 gigs of RAM.
Outdoor FPS was sluggish and at times very choppy. I was getting anywhere between 20-30 FPS outdoors with double that indoors, and it took about 5 minutes to load any save I had outdoors. I've tried several of the .ini files that have been uploaded so far, this has been the first to make the game run smooth as BUTTER for me. I tried this with all the settings on low, and I might tweak things on my own to see what happens, but I want to thank you profusely for this.
By Azura indeed! 😄 So glad it helped — making Oblivion Remastered smooth on lower-end setups was the goal. Let me know if you find any tweaks that work even better on your rig — always happy to optimize more. Thanks a ton for the kind words and endorsement!
AORUS OC 3060ti, 5800x3D, and 16gb of ddr4 ram. Medium settings besides Cloth, Hair and Post Processing. DLSS on Quality.
This helped me a TON in areas that chugged, such as looking across the waterfront from the main city, or Cheydinhal. from 45-50 to 60-65 in both areas! improved framerate all around in others. Interiors were never an issue but i do notice them loading their 'zones' much smoother.
That’s awesome! It sounds like the upgrades really made a difference, especially in those problem areas. Great job tuning everything for smooth performance! The DLSS on Quality setting is definitely a game-changer for visuals and performance. 10/10 indeed
Wow, that's an amazing improvement! With those FPS, the game will run super smoothly. If you're planning an upgrade, that's awesome, but it's great to hear you're able to play comfortably now. The RTX 3050 is really giving you a solid boost! Or, if you want to keep it more casual and fun: 100-120 FPS? Now you're experiencing gaming at its finest! And on a laptop – you’ve got a real beast in your pocket
I tested this with the same card, except with an i7-12700H. It looked very nice and FPS was looking good, but then I would get extreme drops to 1fps that wasn't happening before in the same area, even when I dropped the graphics to low (normally I play on Medium across the board with FSR Quality and Framegen on).
Is there any specific Nvidia settings I need to pay attention to or tweak? I'm so open to suggestions at this point :3
Hey! Thanks a ton for the detailed feedback 🙏 I didn’t experience any FPS drops on my setup (RTX 3060 Ti + i5-12600K) – everything stayed smooth even outdoors. But mobile i7s like the 12700H can sometimes behave differently, especially when paired with FSR and Framegen (which the preset doesn’t really rely on). You could try these in Nvidia Control Panel:
Set Power Management Mode to Prefer Maximum Performance
Turn off Low Latency Mode (or set to Off)
Disable Vertical Sync
Also, try temporarily disabling Framegen to see if it’s conflicting. Let me know if that helps – if not, I can put together a lighter version tailored for laptops 😎
I think you were on the money - and it worked much better when I switched to Balanced DLSS! I was only using FSR because out of the box, even performance DLSS was just poopy. But this fix + quality DLSS fixed the severe FPS drops. It still drops but its not a cliff from 50-60 to 1 fps, which is fine. Thanks!
Yes, that's correct! The WinGDK folder under Documents\My Games\Oblivion Remastered\Saved\Config\ is the right one for Game Pass / Microsoft Store version. Just rename the file to Engine.ini and drop it in there. 🔥 Let me know if it works – Game Pass warriors deserve smooth Oblivion too! 💪✨
Hey! The .ini tweaks don’t auto-disable in-game Lumen settings visually – the menu will still show it "on", even if it’s actually forced off via the config. To make sure it's active:✔️ Rename the file to Engine.ini ✔️ Drop it into the correct folder for your game version ✔️ Restart the game completely

buttery smooth except i get an occasional stutter, any suggestions?

10/10. Thank you, seriously.
I'm rocking at 100-120 FPS inside, 10-20 in the cities and 10-15 outside the cities(with the occasional drop to around 5)!
I mean compared to the 10-20 FPS inside that I was getting, it's incredible!

Definitely upgrading my laptop, but this will let me play the game for now without to much difficulty.
