Thanks for the detailed instructions for those who posted them. I got this to work one time and then the game crashes every time I try to start after that; The only way I can play the game again is to uninstall the shader and validate files with Steam. Have always had terrible luck getting these to work and it always seems to end up crashing the game. Looks good though, oh well. I wish they would have put more effort into tweaking the game.
I couldn't even get it to work once, game immediately crashed. I removed this reshade's ini file so I think the problem is reshade itself. I'm curious why it works for some and not for others
I’m trying to set this up on steam deck and I’m running into an issue at a certain point. I downloaded reshader, set it up by going through all the steps listed by jack, then extracted the ayleid2.ini into win64 but when I get to the step of launching the game I crash. I tried doing a fix where I moved the original dxgi.dll out first and when the reshader makes the new one I rename it to d3d12.dll, then move the original back and that pops a window up where is says my system does not support directx12. Tried the same with d3d11.dll instead and that just went back to crashing unreal again. I also tried setting reshader up under Vulcan instead of directx10,11,12 but it crashed all the same. I don’t know if the steam deck setup is different somehow, my gut tells me it isn’t though, or if I’m doing something wrong/missed a step. I started by just following the instructions. I am also very new to using Linux still as my only experience with it is my Steam deck. If someone knows something I don’t or that I’m the one causing problems for myself and how to fix it please let me know, I really don’t wanna look at the boring brown.
Download Reshade. Start install. Search for OblivionRemastered.exe. Set DirectX 10/11/12. Finish install. Put Ayleid.ini in /Oblivion Remastered\OblivionRemastered\Binaries\Win64 folder, next to Reshade.ini. Start the game, press POS1 to open reshade overlay. Load Ayleid.ini. Press POS1 again to close overlay. Done.
1. Download Reshade from Reshade.me 2. Open the reshade.exe 3. Select Oblivion Remastered, click "next". 4. Choose "DirectX10/11/12 (should already be selected), click "next". 5. A list will come up, make sure that SweetFXbyCeejay.DK has a tick next to it and NOT a box. Click "Next". 6. Click "Finish". Reshade is now installed for Oblivion Remastered. Now for this Ayleid Reshade...
1. Copy "Ayleid2.ini" to where your game/reshade is installed. E.g = D/Games/Steamapps/Common/Oblivion Remastered/OblivionRemastered/Binaries/Win64 and paste it here. You should see a folder called "reshade shaders" if you have correctly installed reshade. 2. In game, press "home", and go through the tutorial or skip it. 3. After step 2, press the dropdown box at the top of the reshade window and select "ayleid2.ini". Click apply (or whatever it is). 4. Press "active on top" and you should have about 6 settings all ticked. (DPX, Levels, Lumasharpen etc). This step isnt necesary, but it cleans it up a little. 5. Go to Settings at the top of the reshade window, and click on "Effect toggle", apply a key to it. I use Insert. You can then toggle the effect on/off on the fly.
Usually if the settings arent ticked, there is normally a step that you have missed. I used to do it all the time :D
Uninstall reshade, go through steps 1 - 3 again, and instead, click uninstall. And then start again.
Usually the culprit is when you get to step 5 and there is a list of different packages you can get which has all kinds of different reshades effects. Make sure that "SweetFX by Ceejay.DK" has a TICK and NOT a box. That way, that whole reshade package will get installed. If its a box, then you have to select each one manually. That will be my guess on why there is nothing ticked. So make sure that it has a tick next to it before carrying on to step 6 @SteelJumpa
Weirdly it started working randomly with the latest filter update, but didn't work on the earlier ones. No idea what fixed it but I won't complain, bye bye piss filter haha.
Any chance you know how to get ReShade to work with the Steam overlay? I know there used to be a workaround by renaming d3d11.dll to dxgi.dll, but that doesn't seem to be relevant anymore. I've seen other Steam players get their overlay working with ReShade though and I can't find any info online :[
Update: To anyone who is experiencing heavy freezing, stuttering or high CPU usage even in Menu's when using ReShade. These steps seemed to have solved my issue.

Once loaded in, hit Home to open ReShade's GUI. Select the Ayleid Preset. Once that is loaded, go to Add-ons and select Aspect Ratio Hueristics set to Match Resolution Exactly. Once this is done, go to Settings. I like to use the Home (Effect Toggle Key) and Insert (Effect Reload Key) to ensure I have methods of enabling, disabling, or restarting it in case there are issues.
Onto the last and most important step. The stutters, lag and high CPU usage seems to come from shader compiling. ReShade seems to reallllly like to recompile shaders, im no expert but this could be due to UE5. Anyway! In General settings, above Clear Effect Cache, check Load only Enabled Effects (for this to work properly, Ayleid Reshade Preset must be selected). I also cleared the Effect Cache as a precaution, but you may not have to. As goes without saying, those of you running the game on a hard drive and not an SSD may have varying levels of performance.
Maybe just me, maybe placebo, maybe its mayballine, but I wanted to post this anyway as a means to help some who may be in my boat.
Great guide. You should do this with every downloaded Reshade preset in any game. Especially the 'Load only enabled effects' can help to resolve microsuttering
Excellent post, thank you! I was absolutely dumbfounded when my frametime went apeshit after a simple reshade preset... I'm running an i7-13700k, 64gb of DDR5-6000, and a 4080 Super. The microstutters made the game unplayable, it's perfectly fine now.
on my 5080/13600k using high settings+framegen it lowered my fps by like 20-30fps and doubled my latency from 30 to 60+ms which is unfortunate because it looks so much better. i tried 5.2.2 and it crashed my game
edit: following another commenters instructions fixed my drops/latency: in reshade set aspect ratio to 'match exactly' and under settings check the box 'only load used effects'
If anyone is getting issues with FPS with the latest reshade 6.4 installed (I was getting about a 20FPS drop!), then try reshade 5.5 - Using reshade 5.5 Im only getting a 1 or 2 FPS drop (which is what Id expect for a colour palette modification).
Now I can enjoy this preset without it significantly affecting performance.

Thank you to everyone for supporting the 1.0, it will still be available for those who prefer it :)

I have edited my post to rectify. My apologies.
