Thank you all for your support!
This is the first mod I've uploaded to the nexus and it is really awesome to see everyone's feedback.

I have made a few adjustments to make things simpler.  Now, the mod works with just one spell, Safe Race Menu, so you no longer will have to juggle the two spells, idk if that was a problem in the first place but it bugged me.  I also updated it to save your base values so you shouldn't need to unequip items that buff your stats anymore.

Currently, I'm working on figuring out how to save/restore active effects/spells and how that works with vampirism.  This is my first time playing oblivion so I am still figuring out how the game handles these things.

All feedback is welcome, and enjoy the mod!

Great solution with the spell save and restore. Works perfect, now we can change our player candidate.

Install with Vortex was okay, right folder and automatically added to plugin.txt

If you start a new game with this mod, the character name is stuck to default "Bendu Olo" with extra NL tag to it. And if you've changed it again through racemenu, it rolls back to Bendu Olo anyway (it's visible in the menu on top of save game slots).
But if you create a char without the mod and enable it afterward - name changing is unaffected.

Got the Same issue. Started a new Argonian Character with the Mod installed and it always named the character [NL] Bendu Olo.

Important things to note before using this mod:

1)Pray at a chapel to cure any negative buffs.
2)Wait until you exhaust all of your positive buffs.
3)Never start a new game with it installed, or you’ll have the permanent Default name, no matter what you choose.
4)Level up your character to the beginning of the next level. This is optional, but you’ll lose all progress towards the next level if you don’t.
5)Take off all items you’re wearing that have buffs.
6)Cast the Safe Race Menu Spell.
    7)Type showracemenu in the console.
    8)Change whatever you want.
9)Hit done and cast again and you’re all done!

Works great if you use it right! Hope this helps and gives confidence. Endorsed!

Thanks very much for these tips! All I want to do is make a few minor tweaks to my lady assassin but I was very hesitant about the potential problems.  Thank you for spelling everything out plainly! :)

Thank you, Mattdylan101! Following these steps worked. I was guilty of several things like needing to cure negative buffs, using gear and weapons that had positive buffs, and having not leveled up before attempting to use. Thanks, again!

Hello, I had a question.  What do you mean by 'add the text "PreserveStats.esp" to plugins.txt'?  Trying to get this mod to work but I do not understand this step.

Is there any way to make it so that it saves the variables across saves? I didn't realize this happened until hours of gameplay later :( - nvm! I just manually updated all my stats and skills using console commands

Are you the only person saying the item needs to be used every time you load a save? I want to change race but im trying to figure out how not to break the game and all my saves, nobody mentions the old oblivion way to save in console without confirming or something, not sure if that works, but also only a few people mention losing all spells? that kind of a big deal the adding back vamp and passive spells is also annoying but if im going to lose all spells and then im not sure if id be able to buy them back lol? means i would have to manually re enter those too, not trying to re enter 50 lines of code, mainly im not sure if this will mess up previous saves people are saying mixed things..

Love the mod, thank you for your work!
Can the names of the mod / archive / ESPs be consolidated? Right now it's:

Name on Nexus: Keep Your Stats After RaceMenu
    Download archive: SafeRaceMenu-[mod / version numbers].zip
    ESP file: PreserveStats.esp

This makes it confusing when handling the files.

do you know if this mod allows us to use the class menu command to change our class and not lose stats? or could you make this mod but for the classmenu command? i wanna trade out my major attributes but doing so currently makes all my stats regress
