Yo! My reply might be just a little late, but at the time I made this mod, the Xbox Gamepass version of P5Royal did NOT have that option. Many others who started P5R on Xbox Gamepass were also complaining about this issue, multiple threads with no answers. Someone had posted a screenshot of the "button display" option, but none of us who had the gamepass version could see a "button display" option to change anywhere. [They were on the Steam version]
This should be a standard for all PC gaming!
Seriously. Every game on PC should have this.
Agreed. 1000%.
I don't want to invade another mod's page, but this will seriously make the controller UI even better.
No worries! I made this for my own personal use to fix my problem. Since there were others out there who needed an answer to this same problem (and Persona5Royal wasn't even listed on NexusMods yet - my mod was submitted for like a week before Persona5Royal even was approved as a listing here) I figured I'd share it. That's why I wrote the short text guide on how to do it yourself so that others could build on it or just do it better.
I'm kinda lazy, but you can do it yourself using my guide included in the other download. All you have to do is extract the dds files from the PS4 button pak file, rename them to their xbox controller equivalents (names are found by viewing the buttons_xbox.pak file), then replacing the files in the xbox pak file with your renamed PS4 ones, then re-compile the CPK with cpk viewer and you're golden
Is this intende for not branded controllers? otherwise you can just change the button display in the system menu, sorry if i'm missing something, i don't want to discredit you or anything, i'm just pointing it out in case you didn't notice.
I'm not sure. I'm using a PS4 controller that for some reason either gets read as an xbox controller or something else when playing the gamepass version of P5R on PC. Even when using DS4 and emulating it as a ps4 controller, the system and controller checker/xinput read it as a PS4 controller, but the game still does not.
So I had to use a workaround to get it to work.
Also, I could not find this system option you speak of to choose which button prompts are shown? I'm interested if I wasted all that time for nothing lol
Oh okay, i don't see why it would be different for the gamepass version, but for me the option is under "Config - System settings" and than near the bottom "Button Display", i think it could also be you controller configuration on steam, you should check that as well just in case.
The Steam version has an option to use Xbox, DS4, DualSense, and Switch button prompts. I'm not too familiar with GamePass games but assuming they just run the Xbox versions of the games I would guess they removed the option.

I found the option that you can change gamepad buttons and UI icons with any controller you are using!
System Settings>Config Settings (This is Steam Version)
Go all the way at the bottom on "Button Display" near the Controller Sensitivity.

So I have to use the mod or edit files
Install the Controller UI Overhaul from Gamebanana.
This improves the colors TREMENDOUSLY alongside fixes with other controller options
"Inconsistencies such as the "Pro Controller" prompts showing the Joy-Con dpad have been fixed."

Glad Mods freaking exists!

It just feels incomplete to just have the face buttons.
Thanks either way!
Thanks anyway to Sixpistol for the original fix!
I do it, now include all buttons
