First up respecced companions get removed from your party and you lose the option to select them from your toolbar. They’re still in the party and you can click on them and order them to move about but that’s it. Might be fixable by adding/removing them to party or area change, I haven’t tested.
Second is for some reason it suppresses all tooltips? Really no idea why but uninstalling it fixes it.
I’m using the community patch and improved UI mod, so there might be a conflict there.
I've encountered the same problem. It only happens when you respec one of the companions (and probably sidekicks), not when you respec your MC or a completely custom hireling. It is nothing to do with the community patch as I don't use it. It might be to do with the improved UI mod. As you say, it doesn't actually remove them from the party, it just removes them from the toolbar and suppresses tooltips. What you can do is finish respecing your companion, and then save the game, and then reload, and it should then be fixed (at least it has been for me).
In case anybody comes in with this same issue, here's what happened with me:
Respecing a companion that was already in the party on load worked perfectly fine. After removing a party member, adding a new one, then respecing that added character triggered the issue as well as being unable to see tooltips during the respec. However, at least for me, there was a preemptive fix: Before respecing a character, move them in party order even if it's just one slot over and then respec them.
To anyone playing the Game Pass version, follow these instructions:
Download the latest version of BepInEx; you can follow the link on the main page. Unpack everything into the main folder, where PillarsOfEternity2.exe is. Take only the FullRespecCompanion.dll file inside the \BepInEx\plugins\ folder from the mod and put it in the \BepInEx\plugins\ folder of your game installation folder (If there is no \plugins\ just creat it).
And here comes the magic: Rename PillarsOfEternity2.exe to PillarsOfEternityII.exe and rename the folder \Content\PillarsOfEternity2_Data\ to \Content\PillarsOfEternityII_Data.
Voilà, the mod will work. Additionally, installation through Vortex should now also work.
UPDATE You'll need to start the game with PillarsOfEternityII.exe, it'll say the game is curputed if you try to sytart from the XBOX APP What i've done was to rever to PillarsOfEternity2.exe and \Content\PillarsOfEternity2_Data\ after the respec for convenience, and you can always change it back if you wanna respec again.
Can I select *any* class for my companions with this, e.g., make Eder a Chanter? Or, does it just allow me to choose from what the companions were able to choose from to begin with?
ONE OF THE MUST HAVE MODS. makes game more enjoyable by helping to experiment with companion and not making us wait for a good build . Made game much more enjoyable for me.
First of all, TY rifqiyahya and Riff1323. It works perfectly fine. --- Not compatible with Unity Mod Manager. So, just uninstall UMM for a while when you need FULL respec. And after choosing companion's job, install UMM again if you need. (You need to reinstall this mod for Full Respec everytime after you uninstall UMM.) (+ Camera zoom unlocker doesn't need UMM after being installed and set up, so if this is the only UMM mod you're using, you don't have to reinstall UMM and just have fun with this mod.) (Smart unpause, and Ship Morale mods need UMM to be maintained installed.)

Installing this mod according to the description doesn't trigger it in game.
