WOW this really highlights how badly we need Frontier to add a Kudu to the game. This is one of the best modders in the PZ community, and this animal is unrecognizable. Please don't feel bad, I have seen other modders attempt a Kudu and fail miserably as well. I guess it is  just one of those antelopes there is no good base for.
The top modders like Narwhaler and Jen have not even wanted to touch it, as it ruins reputations on sight. Hopefully Frontier adds the second largest antelope in the world and the most beautiful to the game. I could never use a mod like this after support ends, especially with the incredible quality and realism of the last few DLCs.

EDIT: I will leave the original post up, because if not, nothing below would make sense. I made an error when I labeled this antelope as unrecognizable. I was thinking of the Greater Kudu and unfairly criticized a completely different animal. As the Lesser Kudu and Greater Kudu are almost as different from each other as a pigmy hippo and a hippopotamus.

I do however maintain my statement that Frontier should add the beautiful greater kudu to the game, a magnificent ungulate and they seem to be really fond of ungulates, so it would work out well.

On a side note, I would like to reiterate that in NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM, this was an attack on Bongohardwood as he is one of the most talented modders in the Planet Zoo community right up there with Gabboi, Narwhaler and Jen. His skills are beyond impressive and his dedication to creating digital animal art is very much appreciated. The original post was intended as to showcase that if even one of the most talented artist could not duplicate the greater kudu then we really needed this animal. My apologies as English is not my language and might not have explained myself correctly.

No need to curse, I was just stating an opinion, it can be different that yours. Not sure about the picture you posted, but I have seen kudus in several places and they usually do not look like this. Lesser Kudu males can be up to 500 pounds and much bulkier than the mods. The mod just looks like a painted over mhor gazelle.

Also I was directing my observation to bongohardwood, because he is a serious artist who cares about quality control, so he would understand.

I do not expect you to understand Leaf, you have stated many times before that realism is not important to you and when a mod looks nothing like the animal, you simply say it is beyond your skill level. Sorry but that is the truth, you have no taste and without taste, there is no quality control and without this, you end up with useless mods.

The African Lion was part of the base game, and a great amount of those animals were done by different Frontier artists that the ones that are working on models now. Frontier also had this idea of the game being heavily stylized back then to match many of the assets used in Planco.

None of that matters now, because the game has evolved into a style of its own, that is superb. They will probably not go back and work on all the animals from the base game, but more than likely we will see PZ 2 in 5 years or so and it should be a whole different game.

But you proved my point, the base game roster was so amateurish that it allow for basically any modder to come in and put a leg and head together and say here is animal x. With the latest dlcs that is impossible, and when mods are lacking, it shows.

This was not a knock on Bongohardwood, it is not his fault, he did not have a base model to work with. For the record no one has been able to touch this animal, just look at a previous greather Kudu monstrosity that is somewhere in the old nexus files, the modder even gave up because the animal looked so bad.

I thought for such a harsh comment you had mistaken my lesser kudu for a greater kudu which would be understandable for you to think it's 'unrecognisable' but I can't see how you think this is unrecognisable as a lesser kudu. It looks nothing like a Mhorr gazelle. I'm curious to know what you think needs to be changed to be honest, but I can imagine you're going to be unreasonable in your criticisms.

Also your idea of how much they weigh is way off, every source says under 250lbs. If you could post a reference photo of an animal that would be you ideal reference animal I'd be interested to see that...

You are correct Bongohardwood, I made a mistake remembering my time at the zoo and looking at a pic I took of their habitat sign, but those were Greater Kudu. The lesser Kudu male is around 230 pounds. I will have to download the mod and see what it feels like next to the gazelle, because in the pics it just looks so thin. But you are right that other than the look, most other details would be unfair to bring up as you did the best job possible with what you had.

However I'm sure you would agree that most people have the greater Kudu in mind when they think of the majesty of a Kudu, and this animal is truly impossible to do at the current quality level of the DLCs without being officially introduced. Probably the reason why you picked the lesser Kudu instead of the more recognizable and iconic Greater Kudu.

Again I apologize for the offence as no disrespect was intended, you are a true master of your craft (unlike others) the unrecognizable part was an exaggeration as I initially was thinking of the Greater Kudu.

Thank you for looking it up and retracting the statement. I take great pride in what I put out and try to take a lot of time and effort to get my mods to look as good as I can within my skill level and working with what Frontier has already released.

Lesser kudu are a more slender, slight antelope species but I would hope that if you download the mod and place them side by side with the dama gazelle in game you'll see a significant difference in model and texture.

Yes the greater kudu is a more popular and well-known species and to be fair to the previous greater kudu mod creator, I'm sure they were working to the best of their ability at the time. I know from experience that over time skills can improve drastically. I am currently working on a greater kudu now myself, so will be intrigued to see what you make of it when it is released. Please be kind and constructive with your words when discussing modders' work - we do try hard to do a good job of the animals we make and we are constantly improving standards and skills as we develop personally as well as getting better bases from Frontier.

I was thinking of the Greater Kudu and unfairly criticized a completely different animal. As the Lesser Kudu and Greater Kudu are almost as different from each other as a pigmy hippo and a hippopotamus. This reflects my ignorance on this subject and truly your class as you stayed silent knowing that I had made a total error in this.

I do however maintain my statement that Frontier should add the beautiful greater kudu to the game, a magnificent ungulate and they seem to be really fond of ungulates, so it would work out well. Would love to see what you can do for such an iconic ungulate, the most recognized antelope in the African continent I will say.
