for easier installation in steam you can do the following Move "Texmod.exe" to the game directory. and enter the following command in the launch parameters (including "") "Texmod" -run %command%" now Texmod will be used as an executable file when launched in Steam
Okay so I have spent days trying to get this working with TexMod 0.9b and I have finally got it to work thanks to someone's post on another mod for prototype 2 and I will let you all know this is how I got it to work. I tested this on the steam version of the game. I am on windows 11 latest updates with a 9900k, Nvidia 30 series card and 16gb ram. 1. Download the mod and TexMod 0.9b. 2. Place all files except the readme files into the games root folder. 3. Make a copy of the file prototypeenginginef.dll and place it on the desktop for now. 4. Rename your copied file on the desktop from prototypeenginef.dll to prototypeoriginalf.dll and place it in the games root folder do not delete the original or it wont work at least not for me anyway. 5. Rename prototypef.exe to prototypeoriginalf.exe. 6. Rename TexMod.exe to prototypef.exe 7. IMPORTANT. Run steam, then open task manager and go to the details tab (you might have to click more details to see the tabs). once at the details tab locate the steam.exe, right click and select set affinity and untick all but the first 4 cores (aka core 0 - 3) click ok and then minimise task manager. 8. Run the game through steam and TexMod should open, now select your target application which is prototypeoriginalf.exe and then add the tpf files. 9. Press run. 10. Your screen may flicker and may look like nothing happened but give it a few minutes it will eventually load up.
If you get a crash while loading your save then redo the steps from 7 but instead of setting 4 cores, set only 2 which would be core 0 and 1 then try. If you get a crash after doing all of my steps then unfortunately I cannot help.
A lot of questions were asked about how to install the mod, but the developer persistently ignored them. One of the biggest reasons for mods not working is mistakes made during installation. So what's the point of sharing a mod without explaining how to install it? What a joke.
Yea, it would honestly be way better to read words than guess what you might've been saying, would've been nice if I could actually use this mod while understanding why I'd need Texmod, just trying to get back into it for nostalgia, I really dont wanna go into a rabbit hole just to get a graphic mod functioning
the game isn't compatible with CPUs that have more than 4 cores. So you need to set its affinity to core 0, 2, 4, and 6. that's the first 4 cores on your CPU which will run the game without using multi threading. That way each game thread gets a dedicated core.
Plenty of older games freak out when there are more than 4 cores or if multi threading is enabled. TimeShift is a great example. it won't run unless you disable multi threading in the bios then limit it's affinity to 4 cores. So effectively you trick or into thinking you have a 4 core CPU that can't run 2 threads per core.

8 = leads to infinite loading
alpha outfit = leads to immediate crash
