About this mod

Many of the textures used in the Prototype are uncompressed and some are even HQ (or close to it) quality. That's right, the name is only partially accurate but that's advertizing baby! The goal of this project is to implement those textures into the retail game allowing us to all enjoy simply better textures.

Many of the textures used in the Prototype are uncompressed and some are even HQ (or close to it) quality. That's right, the name is only partially accurate but that's advertizing baby! The goal of this project is to implement those textures into the retail game allowing us to all enjoy simply better textures. That's pretty much all that needs to be said.
Generally speaking, normal gamecube caps out at 64 with only a few 128 textures. But the Prototype has 128 in much more abundance and even more than a few 256 textures. So the upgrade isn't gonna apply to all the textures in the same way. Some will have small upgrades, and some will have huge ones. As an example, Mabel Cottage (aka Somewhere In France) has a lot of photo-refrenced textures. So, naturally, you have large upgrades in that level.
A lot of the NPCs actually have completely different mapping for their textures, and so there were a few small alterations on my part. Some of the objects didn't recieve baked-in lighting until retail so those had to be edited in the sake of a more faithful look. If you want the unaltered textures, please check out my Prototype Restoration Project (which may or may not be released alongside this, you can @ me in #modding about it) which attempts to better embrace the weird and interesting look that the game had in it's early stages.
There is no changelog for this since it was kind of just a side project while I worked on Proto Restored and the process never changed throughout so there's nothing to really be documented on this one. The original 113 textures were completed in the span of one month. For the vast majority of these it was a matter of matching to their equivalents and only in a few cases did I need to change small things like RGB levels & contrast.
