Hi. I am writing regarding your “RDR2.MD” posted on GitHub. First of let me express my appreciation for making such a great document full of great information. I have a question! In the mentioned document regarding “M1899 Pistol,” you said that it can be obtained “from moonshiner event northwest of Valley View, Big Valley, WE”. My understanding is that the player must have one of these pistols already, for the moonshiners to have it also equipped. Am I correct?
I have used different save files from different stages of the game. If I meet the moonshiner in the early stages of the game and have just a simple Cattleman Revolver, the Moonshiners also have the same revolver equipped. I used Norbert to get the Volcanic Pistol and then approached the Moonshiners and noticed that they also had the Volcanic Pistol equipped. They never carry the M1899 Pistol, presumably because I have none. This also applies to the Moonshiner I came across in the Lemoyne and Rhodes area.
Does this make sense or am I doing something wrong?
I appreciate your response. Regards.
p.s. do you have any other format of this document? Word, or pdf.
Yes, that is true. Many NPCs will only carry certain guns if the player already owns them. The moonshiners carrying an M1899 are two of them. I'm not sure if I've made note of that detail in the ref doc, though. Added to to-do list.
As for other formats, I've looked into ways to convert Markdown to HTML in the past but nothing's been spectacular. I primarily use Notepad++ with the NppMarkdownPanel plugin to preview offline. Firefox's "Take Screenshot" function doesn't support pages nearly as long as the ref doc on GitHub unfortunately, and the converters I've stumbled across in recent times aren't exactly the greatest.
Thanks for the reply and clarification. I can convert the document to either PDF or Word. Let me know if you want me to do it for you.
Also, about the Western Bull Moose. I have never seen the one near Painted Sky. I have seen the western moose next to the river, but Does the Western Bull Moose also spawn in the same spot or does it spawn in the Painted Sky? (I am in early chapter 2) Would you mind giving me some tips as to how you got it? I have been trying to complete the map icon for this moose, and so far haven't had any luck. I don't want to use bait to spawn the moose. Many thanks.
I'll be using only Markdown since that's what's compatible when viewing the doc from GitHub. Thanks for the offer, though.
About the moose, yes I have only been able to get a cow moose to spawn near the river shore. Unsure as to whether or not there's a bull spawn nearby, though. The spot northwest of Fort Riggs is also cow only iirc. For those two in particular I slept until morning (06:00), set and locked the weather to Sleet, set up camp on the spawnpoint (for the cutscene black bars), tore down camp, rode the path northbound, turned around, and rode past cow moose more than a few times in the same spots.
I've been guessing Sleet isn't treated as storm weather, but both Sleet and Mist weather types have proven to yield more moose in general for some reason. IIRC they don't spawn in Shower, Rain, Thunderstorm, etc.
I have been able to spawn moose in almost all the spawn points without using any bait, and all in good weather conditions. I have created video guides, which I am planning to upload to my small YouTube channel since there are not many useful visual guides out there about this subject matter.
As I said previously, I am trying to get the complete map icons, using Alcomahol’s "Complete Map with All Discoverable Icons" as a reference. https://gtaforums.com/topic/968364-complete-map-with-all-discoverable-icons/
This map shows a western bull moose icon north of Painted Sky, but I have never seen one with my own eyes, nor anywhere else (YouTube, Reddit, etc) for that matter.
Like you, I have been able ONLY to spawn caw moose next to the river, and NEVER a bull moose. Is it possible for this particular bull moose to spawn in the later stages of the game? For example, when we move out of Horseshoe Overlook at the end of chapter 2. (just thinking to myself since I am currently in chapter 2) In this regard, is it possible to think that this bull moose might be spawned in the later stages of the game, and not from the beginning? I think it is doubtful, but what is your thought about this?
I also have a gut feeling that the bull moose might not be spawned at the exact spot where the caw moose spawns. I have no idea why, but I think that the bull moose would spawn across from the river on the hill overlooking the caw moose spawn point. This is where the O’Driscoll riding a Brindle Thoroughbred tries to ambush us. (I may be wrong of course). Similar to the two Western Bull Moose that can be spawned near Wallas Station, and the one a bit south of Wallace Station by the river next to the bridge. Discovering either of them would enable the map icon.
I'm not sure if there's even a bull spawn in the immediate area of Painted Sky. IIRC the closest one is where the LCR meets the Dakota. Either that, or WAYYY farther west at Owanjila or along the Upper Montana. I want to say I might've seen one way back when I first started playing RDR2 on XB1, but I'm nearly certain I mistook Painted Sky to be the cliff spawn east of Wallace Station. If I were to hazard a guess, it'd be on one of those cliffs along Painted Sky. I know there's similarly set up spawns east of Colter, overlooking Aurora Basin, overlooking the train bridge west of Window Rock, etc. Not to mention the Buck spawn overlooking Cumberland Falls, as well as numerous similar Elk spawns all over the damn place. God, why are there so many Elk in this game lol.
The bull icon itself you mentioned has a wickedly wide activation area through all playthroughs I've done. Any of those spots work, yes. Can't recall the border locations between the one by the Upper Montana, though.
Stages of the game don't seem to affect Moose spawns in particular. I've killed bulls in every spot in every stage of the game, Chapter 2 to Epilogue II. Some animal spawns are affected by progression iirc, but I can't recall what they were because they're insignificant to me. Far as I'm aware, all animals I've uploaded maps of are unaffected by progression. (If someone's to point out otherwise, let me know pronto.)
I am in the process of making a guide to spawn and hunt moose, without using baits. I have already hunted 31 moose, both Bull and Cow, in the early stages of chapter 2 without using mods or trainer. I have almost completed the video edit, and am about to upload them in to my YouTube channel very soon.
I would like to ask your permission to use your map of moose “RDR2-WesternBullMoose.jpg” using it as a bit of reference in the introductory video of the series. Need less to say, I will give you the credit for the map.
By the way, you could reference my videos in your "RDR2.MD" if you want. I think it will be very useful to those who are interested in hunting moose.
I reckon there's a way to do that with LML, but placing point of interest markers in-game has always worked for me. Not to mention uploading full-size hillshaded renders of every animal would be a one gig download at minimum.
Those notes! And that map of Sitting Spots! And the cougar and moose's locations!!! Mate... you really made my day today! You're a legend!
Just one thing: I read the map legend, about the blue and red marks concerning animal spawns, but I also found a couple Sitting Spots marked with a blue icon, rather than red. What does it mean?
The blue blips on the sit map are temporary sit spots. The one down at Clemens Point is only available during Chapter 3. The one west of Annesburg is available for a limited span, but the trigger for it is unknown. I've only seen a single screenshot of someone sitting at it on story mode, and I've never been able to sit there at any point in the story, so I marked it as temporary. All red markers are spots which I've verified myself.

They're random encounters and scenario events which are described further down: https://github.com/subvod/examples/blob/master/misc/RDR2.MD#animal-scenarios

This is the first video of a 34-part series about Spawning & Hunting Moose Without Bait!
I mentioned you in the video!

If you mean otherwise, I'm not sure what a bump-map is.
