I really like the idea, but as other comments here have stated, not seeing the status icons doesn't work for me at all. I tried different methods now and have been restarting the game over and over for like an hour.
No set up mentioned in any of the comments here has been working for me.

Is your cores on dynamic? Make sure it is, dynamic or static it doesn't matter as long as it ain't off in the camera settings. Then as you're already doing now, keep the minimap off via holding Alt key then pressing V. Try doing this in the settings while you're still in the main menu, then restart your game before playing storymode.
I believe what they meant by "choose to always hide the HUD" is pressing V to turn off the minimap when holding the Alt key. Make sure to do it in the settings while you're still in the main menu, then restart your game and play storymode.
Awesome it works like a charm, for those people who don't really understand the mods purpose, allow me to explain. There is no actual way in game to remove the map whenever you swap weapons or press alt, which then shows you the location of all the enemies nearby, for someone who wants to do a challenge run where I'm forced to play in first person and no minimap/map outside of towns/combat, this mod allows me to freely swap weapons and press alt as much as I want without spoiling the enemy locations or seeing where you are.
Hey, love the mod! Once request : Could you make it so that the map is always centered and zoomed out? Currently, there is no GPS but the map opens at the player location kind of defeating the purpose of the mod
this map is good turning off the minimap doesnt help when im desperate to know where to go, atleast this mod prevent me use the map anytime it will make me explore more...

I have radar settings (When holding L-Alt) set to off ( V ), and also tried with: Settings -> Display -> HUD Preset set to off but no luck.
Am I doing something wrong here?
also i can no longer see what season it is in dynamic seasons using this mod, although it could be another
