I have to turn my image quality up but my optimum framerate is at 80% so the picture looks bad, but I think it's too dark anyway.
    My spec is:
    8th gen i5-8400 @2.8GHz
    Nvidia GTX 1650 4GB GDDR5
    8GB RAM 2666Mhz

      Pro Tip:

Turn "Volumetric Lighting Quality" from high to medium for a good 20% boost in performance. The difference between high and medium is almost not noticable. Volumetric Lighting is the most demanding setting in RE2, RE3, RE7 & RE8. Medium is the way to go for a good performance boost. Next, if you havent done so already, turn off "shadow cache", turn off "subsurface scattering" (in RE2 it causes lags on some low end systems when going through doors, besides, the skin on faces looks sharper with it turned off). Turn off "screen space reflections" if you havent done so already (its broken in RE2 and ugly). Furthermore, dont use HBAO, instead use SSAO for another minimal boost. The 3 main settings to change are:

      1. Volumetric lighting (from high to medium)
      2. SSAO
      3. Shadows (high to medium)

Lowering these 3 settings alone will give you roughly a 30 FPS boost. Digital Foundry made a video about it how volumetric lighting is most demanding and how lowering it from high to medium gives you a good 20% boost in performance with a barely noticable downgraded image. Its so minimal, its a no brainer to turn volumetric lighting from high to medium if you need a boost in FPS. Its also essential you turn off "shadow cache". Even i have it turned off using a RX 5500 XT. With it on gives me heavy lags, with it off, buttery smooth. And with this boost in performance you can up your image quality 20%.

Just as an example. When i turned volumetric lighting from high to medium, i was able to increase my image quality from 120% to 140%, with the exact same performance i had with volumetric lighting on high and image quality at 120%. Digital foundry made a video about it. Maybe this will help you or any other person coming across trying to boost their FPS. Changing this setting alone gives you a good boost and for me it was a good trade off to increase my image quality from 120% to 140%. I could play with 150% but that gave me at times a few minimal lags which bothred me, so i went for 140%. This is just to show that changing one single setting (volumetric lighting from high to medium) allows you to increase your image quality almost 30%. Much love.

PS: Kind of offtopic but not many people seem to know this but in RE7, there are several settings absolutely broken that give you a worse image. In RE7, anything other than SSAO, gives objects a ghosting effect. Depth of Field in RE7 is also broken / faulty. With it on, when you look at photos for instance, it produces an annoying haze around the edges of the object. The setting "reflections" is also broken when its on. Produces dots and crappy graphics in many instances. To fix it, put "reflections" on "variable". Its the only setting that should be used. And for AA, always use TAA alone with all Resident Evil games. TAA is the only option that hides all the nastiness, unless you want a shimmering fest. I cant even understand how people can play using SMAA, where everything shimmers and moves and looks so distracting. TAA + FXAA blurs the image even further. So i recommend TAA alone and instead use reshade for sharpening if needed. Just some random tips. Done with my rant haha. Much love.
