    Just a reminder that you can run the game in directx11 using the "-dx11" launch option, some users reported less stutters with it.

    I'm really conflicted about how much this still helps after the update, and after a lot of testing with and without it I'm just still not sure.

    I was able to pinpoint these two lines as what seriously helps in areas like Blue Creek Apartments and the Prison though:

    r.Shadow.CachePreshadow=1
    r.Shadow.CacheWholeSceneShadows=1

    I still really appreciate the mod because it helped tremendously before the patch, but I just have to wonder if anything in it currently could be conflicting with data streaming changes they made in the update. I will do a full playthrough with and without the mod and if I find anything of note I will post an update here.

      Not much changed from what i can see this still helps quite a lot to reduce stuttering.

    Okay folks, if you are reading that: THIS mod fixes the stuttering.

    Period.

    Only thing is: you must put Ray Tracing off.
    With RT on, I don't have massive stuttering, but FPS drops are still there and I doubt you can solve it with a baked .INI file. We should wait for a patch from Bloober Team, but RT is not making any noticable change, so why bother ?

    But in 4K, high/epic settings + Vsync and stuff: no more stuttering, it's gone !
    Solid 60 FPS (capped the FPS).
    Game is still gorgeous.

    I don't even use a high-end rig: I run the game on a Ryzen 5600X, a 4070 Ti Super and 32GB RAM.
    So anyone playing on this kind of setup should give this mod a try: it's a life saver.

    Tested it from the end of Woodside Apartments to inside Brookhaven Hospital: NO. MORE. STUTTERING.
    No crashes, no bugs, no glitches: it just works ® (insert Todd's smiley here)

    Forget all the other mods. I've tested them and they don't work.

    Hell, one of them, making changes to the registry, even impacted the stability of my whole system (if you experience boot problems and you did this registry tweak to priorize the game on CPU/RAM/Disk: just get rid of these registry keys. They won't solve your stutteruing problem, but they will impacy your OS stability).

    Kudos to the maker.

      RT in this game makes a massive difference with lighting through windows and other illuminated areas.

      Nope.

      RT off = UE5 Lumen is used.

      Did you throw this out as an argument?) The video is a clear example of how RT is better. More shadows, better reflections, better lighting, less flickering.

      RT is better but I've noticed less difference with it on as I've got further in the game. By the time I got to the otherworld hospital and further, RT didn't make much of a difference because the whole place is dank and dark

      Yeah, I've tried at least 3 mods before trying this one. I got inmediate improvements, no more stuttering, just lower FPS in some areas but that's my PC fault.

      You must be blind to not notice the insane difference RT brings in this game.

      It's not so much the RT being an improvement as it is the non RT lighting just being straight up bad that RT looks amazing in comparison. Normally a game shouldn't need RT to have a room looking normally lit without literal black patches in the corners invisible without a flashlight.

    looks and works great, way better than these hidden in a pak file

    edit: THIS IS THE ONE folks, this is the real deal, the other mods that fix performance SUCK

    I was able to get solid 60fps at 1080p with FRS balanced on my old GTX 980

    have added these lines as well for max fps boost with no graphics loss, everything else high ingame with medium shadows

    r.Lumen.TranslucencyReflections.FrontLayer.Enable=0 ; removes reflections through fog
    r.Shadow.Virtual.Enable=0 ;
    r.Tonemapper.Quality=1 ; no vignette
    r.Tonemapper.GrainQuantization=0 ; no film grain
    r.FilmGrain=0
    r.SceneColorFringe.Max=0  ;no chromatic
    r.SceneColorFringeQuality=0 ;no chromatic
    r.MaxAnisotropy=16 ;increased texture filtering
    r.Shadow.MaxResolution=1024 ;softer shadows
    r.DFFullResolution=0 ;reduces far shadow res
    r.VolumetricCloud.ShadowMap=0 ;disables shadows from fog
    t.maxfps=60
    ;r.FidelityFX.FI.Enabled=1 ;enables frame regen
    r.motionblurquality=0 ;disables motionblur
    r.GBufferFormat=1
    r.HairStrands.RaytracingProceduralSplits=1
    r.Nanite.DisocclusionHack=1
    r.ProxyLODMaxDilationSteps=2
    r.SSR.HalfResSceneColor=1
    r.SSR.Quality=1
    r.SSS.Burley.Quality=0
    r.SSS.HalfRes=1
    r.SSS.Quality=1

    edit: i am removing r.FidelityFX.FI.Enabled=1 since it seems to overheat gpus, makes vram go through the roof, and ultimately causes crashes

      Hi, I used this mod and added the lines you've added and it *is* a significant improvement, but I'm still getting some bad stutters, particularly when transitioning into a new area or when a cutscene occurs when leaving from a building and into the town.

      I have an RTX 2060 with 16 GB of ram. It's just barely under the recommended requirements.

      Nice! Thanks a lot, this really worked, even on high settings for my machine. Though I'm getting some strange light flickering that keeps happening in some brightly-lit cutscenes, particularly Eddie's first gun scene where he's "joking" and Maria in the labyrinth cell. Any fixes for those?

      There's "r.bloomquality=3" and "r.bloom.AsyncCompute=1", should I change "r.bloomquality" to 2?

    I just don't get it, I'm on an RTX 3080 and still have frame rate issues. I installed this engine.ini and DLSS is the only thing that seems to work well for me.
    Hell, I even dropped my resolution down even all the way to 1080p and it still drops below 60.

    I'm on a 4K monitor so 1080p looks like s#*!, the lowest I want to drop it to is 2K.

    Wow, this was the mod that worked for me. I had small stutters and fps drops even on low settings on 3070 without ray tracing. I tried the popular ones with .pak files, but this one finally fixed it for me. No stutters even on high settings. Thank you

    I just wanted to echo what others have said here, this helped quite a bit. I'm getting a mostly stable 60fps now and it stopped the HUGE drops I was having randomly, for the most part.

    Also it doesn't have any negative visual impact on the game at all and if anything looks BETTER than the default because of removing things like chromatic aberration and vignette, plus the optional file with the Lens Distortion removal text lines.

    Edit: So I just want to reiterate, this is the one. This is your best bet until they actually patch the game to run better. I have now played through an entire playthrough with this mod and wow, what a huge difference. All of the problem areas that were running at about 30-40fps before are now a solid 60fps most of the time.

    It just works.

    Not sure why, but this or other mods do not work for me. Even if i am standing still and looking around I will get consistent frame drops around 2 seconds apart. This obviously isn't traversal stutter, does anyone have any idea what this is? Similarly, this doesn't fix the other stutters that I encounter when moving through the game. if anyone has suggestions I'm happy to hear them.
