If possible, i'll gladly wait for his restoration into Windhelm Arena, because apparently i'm using a mod which restores (or activate?) Windhelm's arena
Oh that would be cool! That'd probably take some dialogue splicing and quest editing, which I don't want to mess with. Maybe someone will get inspired and do it!
This is an interesting mod, but also Alain Dufont being there isn't a bug. There's a line of dialogue from Muiri if you kill him before the quest. So it's entirely intentional.
Really? ... Huh. You know, just looked it up and you're right. I always assumed it broke it and reloaded when I ran into him. It does make the optional part of the quest unavailable.
Maybe I'll change the category to Immersion or Factions or something. I still don't think it makes a lot of sense that the Dark Brotherhood wouldn't know that their contract is already dead.
Edit: Okay. So it doesn't break the quest, but it still seems to be intended this way. Talking to Muiri enables Alain as part of the vanilla quest, except that he's already enabled, so it only does something with this mod. It seems like both being able to kill him and not being able to kill him were intended at different parts of the development process, and we got a muddy mix of both, with no Windhelm arena but still being able to kill him.
heh, i've never done that quest so i have NO idea what y'all are talkin about. not sure if should use this or not. could i get an explanation of how the quest plays out either way please? thanks for your work! love the forsworn mod
Mourning Never Comes is one of the early quests you get in the Dark Brotherhood. You are sent to talk to Muiri in Markarth, who tells you about her scoundrel ex-boyfriend Alain, a bandit king holed up in Raldbthar. The problem this mod fixes is that you can easily kill Alain before ever getting the quest, since he hangs around in Raldbthar whether you're Dark Brotherhood or not, so Astrid sends you go pick up an assassination contract for a guy you've already killed. When I encountered this, I thought it was a bug, but apparently Bethesda... half accounted for it. Muiri will pay you, but not give you the other half of the quest, where she also asks you to kill a second person.
My guess is this happened half because of the original quest plan getting cut (you were supposed to kill Alain in Windhelm's arena, which doesn't exist in the published game), and half to let you retrieve Aegisbane (his stolen warhammer) without having to be a bad guy/assassin.
Changed the category to Immersion, though I still think it counts as a bugfix, given Bethesda included him being enabled as part of the conversation with Muiri. Now the DB aren't completely blind to what happens to their contracts. I'm pretty sure that being able to kill Alain before his quest is a holdover from when you were supposed to kill him in the Windhelm arena/jail, but lacking the ability to restore that whole part of the quest, I'm keeping this up. I find it most immersive for the quest to play out this way, and it seems like it was what Bethesda intended at some point, since the option to enable him is already built in.
